I am a vegetarian myself, for health reasons. But, I still cook and serve to others. I encourage people to network and find farmers locally. Buy from responsible farmers. I am not one to tell others how to live. A good farmer will care for the land and animals. Basically the whole circle of life. I live in an agriculture area. A lot of the land is getting sold off to developers. It's sad. I see animals losing the grass fields and hay. The land we grow in the land is disappearing. It breaks my heart. A happy cow is a good sign of a great farmer.

I agree with a lot of what you say but with the population of today how do we provide the amount of chickens for example to feed the population in a free range setup. There is just not enough land mass in most places to grow that many chickens. My family farm has always had chickens on it. Mostly in broiler houses not free range for the most part. My brother currently has two chicken houses that have a capacity of about 45 thousand chickens. Just think how much land mass that would take to free range that many chickens. And he is just one of hundreds of chicken farmers in my area. So tell me how do we feed the population on all free range animals?

  • @HurairahHomestead

On my farm, I know I will need to get steer manure at home depot. I don't have enough space to support a cow. When one of my cats dies, the cat is buried on the farm and after an amount of time, the remains are dug up and any bones left are reburied but the other remains are just very fertile dirt. The most that is left at that point is pretty much the skull, maybe part of the jaw. Everything else is just dirt. So, the bones that are left are reburied. Now they talk about people who say that when they die, they want to be composted. It's a real thing, instead of being buried or cremated. I know in my religion we don't do cremation (I know there are some people who I've run into who do NOT like that)...but it's forbidden. Now, I don't know about composting...I don't think any scholar has said anything about it, yet. Anyway...I just looked it up. In my religion, the body must be washed, wrapped in a white burial shroud and buried directly in dirty (NOT IN A CASKET). And neither cremation or 'composting' are allowed because they both involve disrespecting the body. Either by burning (cremation) or by actually pulverising the body (composting). But, ultimately, it is up to the individual and their own faith. My mum was NOT from my faith. I didn't like it because I saw it as harmful, but SHE wanted to be cremated. In her faith, that is allowed. I had to respect that, even if I wouldn't have chosen that. If my kids leave my faith, I can only hope that THEY will respect my wishes for how my body is treated. And may the Creator's CURSE be upon them if they do not! Also, no...I would NOT 'reject' them if they leave the Faith. The only way I would ever even consider that would be if they became a trial for me (like they keep trying to preach their new religion to me after I told them not to). But, in my religion, it also says that we aren't allowed to 'cut off kith and kin'...which some of my kith and kin HAVE done to me. When they found out what I did...my gosh...they reacted like I said I wanted to SHOOT THE POPE, or blow up the Vatican! I never said any such thing! I wasn't even Catholic. But, yes, I got an e-mail 5 years later...'we are still shocked and saddened by your decision'. FIVE YEARS LATER!!!!!!

If you have less people and do not have to create tons of food for each acre then you can get by without animals. So if we were a small population there would always be soil that was their growing the food and there would not be very much of it and we could be like the animals and leave our poop donation as we were eating the food.... Josh you are absolutely right on everything you are saying there. I was in Michigan years back picking up some organic Rye for cover crop from a organic farm and was surprised to find that they would not allow any inputs that didn't come from another organic farm or an organic source .. in case nobody realizes that the farmers although they account for a lot of the glyphosate use are only part of the problem since those products are used abundantly on everybody's Lawns and parks and around buildings and golf courses and whatnot.. I watched a RUclips video about a fella who had bought hey fed it to his goats and then use the goats poo to fertilize as high tunnels and out in this Gardens..... what happened was that the crops were all going bad they were getting up and then dying out.. it took him a couple of years and somebody said well yeah you were getting the hey from somebody who was using an herbicide that was to kill all broad leaves and it carried through the manure and didn't go away even after it was setting and composting for quite some time .. I can't verify it I wasn't there so I can't say it's true but I can say this when I started going organic I picked up the fields that were sprayed in the past and I mean 5-year more years ago. At the end of the fields there was circles that you could see from when they turned with the sprayer and nothing would grow their. I had another friend farmer who showed me something from Purdue and a professor who had found that the glyphosate was tying up the calcium in the soil and the farmers were not doing a water essay to decide what to add. Well it was a mystery until they started doing that kind of a soil test using water which is very rare in the non-organic world. When they did that they found out he was low on calcium and some other things that the glyphosate was tying up. So when you get sources like leaves and grass clippings you just take your chances. Tree clippings I hope are better but who knows? Hope this helps somebody

I am vegan and support farmers who raise animals in sustainable and ethical environments. I recognize that for many people, it is challenging to change their dietary habits completely, and continuing with farming practices that are sustainable and ethical is a step in the right direction. However, I don't support claims that are based solely on belief systems, especially when they spread misinformation.
While this is your channel and you have the right to share your perspective, I believe it is important to provide accurate and well-researched information to your audience. There are numerous peer-reviewed studies that present evidence on both sides of this issue. As an open-minded person who is willing to learn, you might find it beneficial to explore these studies.
For your information, I have been successfully growing vegetables without using any chemicals or animal manure, proving that sustainable and ethical farming practices are possible without relying on animal agriculture.

We are not herbivores and the vegan diet is not healthy and or sustainable....we are not herbivores....food should not be manufactured...that's my take....and there are many vitamins that we need as humans that we cannot derive solely from plant sources. We've educated ourselves to the point of ignoring our own evolution...and it's happened in the last 40 years!

    • @4xDiscovery
      @4xDiscovery Месяц назад

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer You are correct, my friend. From an evolutionary standpoint, humans are indeed omnivores. This adaptability allowed humans to spread across the globe and survive by consuming a variety of foods. However, just because humans can eat a wide range of foods doesn't mean that consuming animal products for every meal is the healthiest choice.
Our digestive system is about 30 feet long, much longer than that of carnivores. This length is designed to maximize nutrient absorption from plant-based foods. Carnivores have different teeth, jaw structures, saliva, and digestive enzymes. Their stomach acidity is also different, optimized for digesting meat, not plants.
Catching animals is extremely challenging, as I have friends and family members who are hunters. It's not realistic to assume our ancestors caught and ate animals daily; They flesh in a wild spoils quickly and most likely will kill you. It was likely a rare event to eat animals, perhaps once a week, with their diet mainly supported by readily available plants.
Regarding your point about ecosystems, to grow plants, you know for sure we need nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These essential elements don't magically come from animal butts; they originally come from plants, which animals consume... Also all the nutrients that animal flesh has, it comes from consuming plants. A tiger wont be able to eat a plant, but we can, and at the same time you cut our the animal part from the equation.
I fully respect your decision and beliefs, but I would strongly suggest reading up on the latest science when it comes to diet and our top soil and making decisions based on that.
In the meantime, I salute you for being a respectful and open-minded small operation farmer. Who knows, you might grow to the point where you tackle a big topic of regenerative farming.

This is good information. A rant that is needed. 😊 My granddaughter's father was vegetarian for many years. He started having health issues, his doctor told him that he needed to start eating meat. Both myself and a friend of mine need the protein specifically from meat. I can tell physically if I'm not getting enough meat. At times no matter how much I will stuff myself with fruits and vegetables I will still feel like I'm starving. Just a thought- Buddy, my flemish giant's favorite food was chicken. We as humans for thousands of years were hunter gatherers. That is what our body is attuned to.
After listening to you and my mind going... vegans are not actually vegans unless they are growing and sourcing their own food. Veganism does not use any animal products or by-products, ie. eggs, leather, etc. So.. I see eating foods fertilized by manure from an animal are not a vegan product. 🤔

Plenty of people with high fodmap food intolerance can't eat legumes. most plant based protein comes from legumes. Lactose intolerance also usually accompanies intolerance of other high fodmap foods. People who suffer with those diets have to eat meat or eggs to get their protein. also people with anemia who need iron rich diets. red meat is the best option for them to get the nutrients they need. There are plenty of people on this earth that can't eat a vegan diet even if they want too. Aside from that, you can't have the option of a vegan diet without major farming operations to support you. Mankind were hunter gatherers from the beginning. If we did not hunt we would be extinct. We live today because our ancestors killed mastodon with sticks and sharp rocks. In every part of the world where humans have settled we have always competed with every apex predator species, and even hunted them going all the way back to paleolithic times. You cannot gather enough wild edibles to sustain a population. And even in civilizations that began large scale farming, none subsisted entirely on crops. Domestication of animals, and hunting went hand in hand with husbandry since we first began tilling the ground.

It's important to recognize that most people, regardless of their dietary choices, don’t usually consider how their food was fertilized when they go grocery shopping. The concept of veganism, as some argue, is sometimes portrayed as a marketing strategy by large food companies. This perspective suggests that the popularity of veganism might be influenced by commercial interests, and that some individuals may adopt it without fully exploring its implications or reasoning.

In Germany we have some 2% vegans. Nothing to worry about. Ok, some of them are rather loud ...
Afaik there are three types of vegans:
    1. Ethical vegans. They wouldn't even want to kill a fly. Fine with me.
    2. Those who want to reduce animal suffering. They could do much more by buying from farmers like you (or Greg, Joel, Gabe, ...)
    3. Those who think animals are bad for the climate. Basically stupid, but as long as >90% of the meat comes from feedlots, they have their point. But they too could do more for the climate by buying from you.
==> We shouldn't focus on educating vegans, but rather on educating other farmers to raise animals 'the right way'.

A couple of the things you said did make me shake my head, such as grass is green year-round, lol, maybe where you live. Here in the north east, evergreen forests do produce oxygen year-round, grass, not so much.

Yep...I'm a RN of 16 years now. Grassland sequesters carbon and builds topsoil more readily than forest land in most cases. I hear ya on the evergreen forest....but think about the amount of growth and senescence grassland has compared to forest. Grassland with a grazing component is in constant growth/regrowth where forest is in growth typically once per year and re-growth once per year.

US, one of the richest nations on earth can’t figure out how to have largest food kitchens in the world serving meat. The Sikh community has been majority vegetarian for over 500 years and is a warrior tribe on country border regions, with many men towering over 6ft tall. I would drink water from a hand powered pitcher pump in the yard. My grandparents bought beef from a slaughterhouse. My grandfather would go catch wild hogs from the national forrest and bring them back and put them in one of 2 pens and feed that hog corn for about 3 to 4 months, then we all butcher that hog and eat it. There was always a hog in the pen, and it's predecessor was in the freezer. Chickens were bought every 6 months and raised for chicken meat. There was only one vaccine, the polio vaccine. To date , the only one that has worked. The vegetables have been genetically modified. All of the seeds have been also. Having problems with your health? Try a carnivore diet. Grass fed beef.
