Belgrade in ancient times was called Singidunum, a name with Celtic origins. Dun(on) means fortress or an enclosure in Celtic. They are not sure about Singi, but historians think it might mean circle in Celtic.

@@frostflower5555 Well there you go I didn’t know there was any Celtic connection. It certainly was a well placed fortress

Beograd translation would be more like Western city. Beli/Belo in old Slavic means west. Hence Belaruss- Western Russians. my english is bad so i don't dare explaining more😂

@@tajkonderroga Common view is that Beograd means White City. Never head this Beli/Belo meaning as West. It certianly means White.

'Zemun Fortress' is actually one of 3 Millenium Towers build by Hungary in celebration of (maybe) Hungarian statehood? This one is last one remaining.

View of confluence of Sava and Danube, what is not apparent is that size of Danube is far greater than it appears at ruclips.net/video/ZvuW1PHtQw8/видео.html as obscuring the view is this huge Large War Island. Google maps will clarify the situation.

I recommend you to visit Zvezdara. It's much prettier than Zemun. Zemun and everything on the other side of the river looks somehow depressing. Zvezdara has completely preserved the spirit and looks of Old Belgrade.
