    I have a Gen 3 Glock 17. I'll be purchasing a 19 soon. I'm in CA, so Gen 3 it is.
    I'm an old 1911 guy. I carried one for years--on-duty, off-duty, competition--as a Deputy Sheriff. I bought my Glock about twenty years ago because, as an instructor, I felt I needed to learn the system. It's since gotten under my skin. Once I learned to work the Glock trigger, I could reliably knock over steel silhouettes at 60 yards. The custom 1911 went into semi-retirement.
    I don't care about the ambidextrous slide release: personal preference, not knocking those who want it. It's not because I'm right-handed, but because I slingshot the slide. Same story with all my semi-autos, including my S&W 41. The only modifications I've made to my Glock 17 are the factory steel sights and a strip of stair-step tape (Home Depot gunsmithing) cut to fit the top of the slide, between the ejection port and the rear sight, to increase friction if the gun or my hands are wet.
    I've just started experimenting with pistol optics, so I may be sending you slides to be cut at some point.
    I've been coaching a group of law enforcement officers, recent academy graduates who want to boost their proficiency with their sidearms. They're issued Gen 5 Glocks, because it's okay for law enforcement to have "unsafe" guns. But I can't by a Gen 5 Glock, because it lacks the arbitrary "safety features" that contribute little or nothing to safety but that compromise reliability and handling (try clearing a double feed on a CA-compliant SIG sometime). So, I can teach LE to handle their "unsafe" handguns, but I can't buy the same "unsafe" handgun, because it's "unsafe," which means efficient and reliable, and... THE STUPID! IT BURNS!!!

  • @cecillio
    @cecillio Год назад +3

    the spring system for the sear was also redesigned between the gen 3s and 5s. Gen 3 has a much simpler version with it only having one parts for the spring system, the new gen 5s have three different parts that interact with the spring to make the sear move which while does give a better trigger feel that Glock calls their " marksman trigger ", it is less reliable.

      Honestly I just stick with gen3, just preference npt enough changes to be worth an "upgrade." I like the finger grooves that gen5 removes, and I don't want to use a pos adapter plate which have always been common failure points I'd rather have a custom milled cut for my chosen specific optic and ride as low as possible. Plus a gen3 is usually when I've search a little cheaper, since I'll likely upgrade a few parts anyway why pay more?

      It wasn’t struck down. The requirements for guns to get on were dropped, but from what I hear Glock doesn’t want to do the paperwork or whatever to get their guns on our roster.
      Sig has though. They’ve had like 4 guns added to the roster in the last year. Springfield got the hellcat and hellcat pro, HK got a gun added. The roster is still around but some of the requirements as I stated were dropped to get on the roster. Glock just doesn’t want to make the changes like adding a loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect to their guns and fill out the paperwork. The micro stamp thing was thrown out in court. I hope Glock makes a California edition, but I doubt it.
      I obviously own Gen 3’s. Once I leave California in 2 years I’ll buy some new ones, but I’ll never get rid of my 3’s because I do like the finger grooves, and the magazine release has never been a problem for me. I genuinely love Gen 3 and looking forward to loving other gen’s, it I’ll always keep my 3’s as well.

      @JR15A2 Год назад

      I bought a G19 as my first handgun right after the model launched in 1988 and a G17L shortly after that. I keep those for sentimental value, but I've bought and sold countless others in all calibers and generations since then. I recently upgraded from a G19 Gen4 to a G19 Gen5 MOS and added a Holosun SCS optic and a Streamlight TLR-8 AG laser/light combo. It shoots great, but I'm still on the hunt for the perfect holster for it.
      After owning, shooting, and servicing examples of almost every Glock pistol made in a professional capacity over the past 35 years, I firmly believe the Gen5 models are the best so far. I wonder why some people are stuck on the Gen3 models. I'd pick a Gen4 or Gen5 over a Gen3 just for the improved dual recoil spring assembly, especially in any caliber hotter than 9mm. I never modify mine except for maybe sights, lightly polishing certain internal parts to smooth out the trigger pull and replacing recoil spring assemblies at the recommended intervals. I've seen too many people dick up a perfectly good Glock trying to play adult Legos with them. That might be ok as a range toy for some people, but not me.
      I've yet to see any adapters I'd trust to attach a weapon-mounted light securely on a Gen2 G17. Finding a compatible holster might become an issue if there was such an animal. If I were you, I wouldn't necessarily kick the old girl to the curb, but I wouldn't hesitate to bring home one of the new and improved models to keep her company. Also, it sounds like we could be close in age, so I'll mention that I was slow to get on the pistol optic train like a lot of folks from my generation, but I eventually realized that my eyes weren't what they used to be, so I was glad I started buying the MOS models when I did so I could attach an optic to them easily once I was ready.

    The early Glock magazines also had a different disease base plate which can fail under pressure as one did for me.
    Best I can determine is it was too much pressure for carrying plus one so I changed all my base plates and no longer carry +1 .

    California is not the only State with a 10rd magazine limit. I am from NJ. I just ordered a G20 SF gen3. I assumed I couldn't go wrong with a Glock. Most of the videos and info I can find about it say. The barrels are bad and the guns explode quite frequently. I don't think I am going to accept delivery. I'll send it back and eat the re-stocking and shipping fees. I am going to try and look past the name and find a quality and reliable 10mm.

  • @ETHRON1

    The main problem, across the board, with the 40 sw is most companies build them using the 9mm frame/design where given the nature of the 40 it should have been built on a 10mm or 45acp frame/design...that's why they literally destroy themselves over time.

    I live in Massachusetts and we can not purchase a Glock from a dealer post 1998 so we are stuck with Gen 2s. If Glock made a pistol with a external safety, then they could sell in Mass & Cal. Hopefully this goes away with help from the Supreme Court.

    Gen 3 is allowed in California because it's grandfathered in, Gen 4 and up are not allowed because we have to have magazine disconnect mechanisms and loaded chamber indicators. Nothing to do with magazine capacity 🙃

      It’s a compromise from their default position of banning everything. Theoretically it is a safety measure, but that is a joke.
      The people in charge of the roster hate guns and would prefer you not have one. Anything they can do to make it harder is ok with them.

    This might still be confusing to some. I have a Glock 26 which i purchased around 1998-1999. I saw on a talon grips blog that the Gen 3 goes from 1995-2010 which makes a little more sense to me as I had one pre 2000. I’m not posting here as an “I gotcha” or to show that I know more, because I really don’t!!!! I’m just sharing in case anyone is still truly confused.
