Thank you for putting the annotations in that let viewers know what you are doing, it makes the run a lot easier to follow for those who aren't runners.
You make this speedrun almost science, looking at time saving techniques, such as the level-ending-music skip and wallbumping. I love it!
Prince of Persia, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Virtua Fighter are my favorite game franchises of the 90's!

To crouch-move, keep holding down while tapping right or left.
To get past the guard, frame-perfect timing is required for both jumps (game runs at 12fps). There's no easy method; you just have to learn the timing and do it. Version isn't an issue as it works on all PC versions, and also on some of the other ports like the SNES version.

1. You can't bump into gates when they're off the screen.
2. The game doesn't switch screens if you keep moving with the sword drawn.
You basically have to keep stepping backwards with the sword drawn without leaving any gaps in the timing, so when the game finally loads the next screen you're already on the other side of the gate.
I didn't know about this version :) but this walkthrough is pretty helpful.
Excellent stuff - I was planning on uploading my own speedrun but my best time is about four minutes slower! There are a lot of shortcuts here I had no idea about, like the almost complete bypass of Level 4 and the off-screen going through the portcullis on Level 5.

Wow :D Never knew about some bugs, like the one in the 4th level (with the guard opening the gate) or the shortcuts in levels 5 and 7 :D Respect!
Pay closer attention to the timing of the first jump before you enter that screen.
More specifically, look at the last frame of animation just before the screen flickers black. If you don't see the same thing as the video (i.e. raised knee) then you got the timing wrong and can't pass the guard.
I used the same method to check the timing for the first guard of Level 2. If timed right (long step just as the screen changes), jump through the guard. If not, it won't work so step past him instead.
That isn't to say there isn't some skill required in jumping at exactly the right time though and the run was reasonably good overall. This 2nd message wasn't an after-thought for the record, I just exceeded the character restriction.
I remember that when I was a kid, this game (on pc) had a cheat code in the keyboard that allowed you to select which level to start from. I barely remember which buttons I pressed to achieved that, but that was my first cheat code found in a game.

Ok you are too perfect. Also you did some tricks I had no idea. Some of them look legitimate, some of them look like bugs (I knew the trick on the first level). I played the game today (before I saw your video with 39:37 time left and many minor mistakes. You make me want never again play this game.lol

Is your version of POP1 an enhanced version or something, because your levels 3 and 7 have a green hue, and also the 'parry' sound effect is different.

No, though it was recorded using an emulator since I didn't have a soundcard with DOS drivers.
The game only runs at 12fps, so it's pretty easy to memorise and perfectly time everything. The guards are generally the only problem.
thank you for the explanations (in the video)! that was great! but one question: why do you jump at 6:04 against the wall? I think it's faster to run and make a "turn in the air"

Regardless of the speed run, 57 minutes left at Level 4 is just impossible. There is no way.

I am trying to imitate the first level but it seems impossible. First of all, in the very first screen, how do you manage to crawl on the floor 4 times in a row without interruption? I ve tried everything but I can only do that move twice and then the prince stands up again and it doesn't work.. and then the double jump glitch is just not working.. i ve tried everything in both v1.0 and v1.4 i guess i have to keep trying

It is a trick. Jump exactly on the same places as he do. So you can pass the guard.

thanks. actually you're wrong about the quality. youtube got the 720p version since its made-of (april 2005). problem was that noone read the instructions about the video quality. dont you see that even now there are some people who still upload vids in 240p cause they didnt read instructions? too bad.

There isn't enough room to go straight into a running jump. You have to walk up to the edge and either turn-slide + jump (like I did) or short-jump + grab.

Holy crap how do you just jump past the guards like that?! Lol I grew up on this game and thought it was cool because I'm half-Persian haha, also thought I was pro but guess not :/ I created a Facebook page the other day, look for "Classic Prince of Persia."
Have the GB version of this. How many of the tricks shown here can be done on that version?

There's a fine line between cheating and getting through loop-holes imo. I am not hating, all I said was that exploiting these glitches wasn't properly playing the game. You are the one that started the childish name-calling. I am familiar with the fact that carrying out speed runs requires the use of shortcuts, I'm just not convinced that simply jumping right past guards (just as if you're pressing 'k' within cheat mode and you can instantly kill them) is really right.

How did you get the sword ? You didn't pick it up in the first level. Does the game automatically give it to you in the second level ?
The developers assumed you couldn't beat the first level without it, so they don't bother keeping track of whether you got it or not.

He exploited a famous bug that allowed him to fall through a wall.
If you need less than 15 min. total, you can shift+L to level 4 and save additional 3:20 minnuts
+zontras But that is cheat, it loses the essence of speedrunning.

Darshan Bari If you just go to the right, the guard won't move. By running sliding the prince, the prince moves over the gate (actually not, like temporarily sliding), so the guard thinks the prince is in his room. So it moves towards left and press the button.
Simple, from where he is standing you run right and then immediately hold left
