Fascinating to see this. When I was a kid, many decades ago, I used to live on Bere Farm, which is just inland of here. With some other kids I used to go swimming at Fan Bay, which is the next bay along going towards St Margaret's Bay. It was almost identical to Langdon Bay, with its small patch of shingle at the base of the cliffs. There were no metal steps to get down onto to the beach, just a rope and footholds in the chalk! The whole area and several miles back is absolutely littered with bunkers, gun emplacements and other stuff from the Second World War.

How would you get to the path that you were on at the beginning of the video? If you start at National Trust White Cliffs by the Coastguard (like you were at the end of your video?)

Park at National trust White cliffs, follow the path that’s at the end off my video past the Coast guard station on your left . Your come to a large dip in the cliff. You can either go down and up or round to the far side . Once there look for a path down to the edge of the cliff and your see a set of railings the start of the zig zag path down to the tunnel and steps. If you look on Google Earth or any maps on a mobile in satellite view , find Langdons bay and look for the zigzag path in the chalk.

Was the path constructed to service the searchlights or does it predate them?

Possibly as there is old concrete at the top of the cliff . There are also passage ways in the search light rooms that go somewhere. They were boarded and locked
