    Just a pass on for anyone that has a Yoder: The chips jammed up in our auger when we tested them. But - our work around was a mix of chips and pellets in a smoke tube and it works great. They are a perfect size for running in smoke tubes in case you have a pellet cooker that wont feed them thru the auger.

    • @michaelsomales6466

      Why would you put them in a Yoder when they are for Lone Star?

      Appreciate you trying so I didn't have to. I was leaning towards tube for the chips, usually run a tube anyway for most cooks. Just wish they had red oak chips this size!

      @ourlifeinwyoming4654 10 месяцев назад

      For sure. We were very careful and shut it down the very first time we heard a slight noise from the auger area. We removed all the chips with pellets, inspected everything and will only use pellets in the hopper. We've done about 6, full 8-hour cooks since and no problems. I'm running a 50/50 blend of pellets and the small chips in a smoke tube and that's been working good for us.@@JTB559

    One More thing: Keep an eye on the hopper with the chips. When it gets low, the mixture will pile up on the sides of the hopper and you need to reach in and brush them down. 😎

    I did this yesterday and started with Smokehouse hickory chips from Amazon. Much smaller than what you used but I had a difficult time getting my temps up over 200. Chips easily went through auger and smoke was definitely there. Did this at night so I went to bed and didn't see much. long 15 hour cook that I had to finish in the oven then 12 hour rest at 155. Taste was great but not the texture. I'll try again with a 2/3 1/3 mix instead of 50/50 on my GMG.

    tried these mixed with meat church pellets a few months ago in my 1100 pitboss. Great smoke but after about 20 minutes I shut it down and dumped them. The auger was binding, snapping and popping. I thought it was going to break it. But since I have so much of it mixed up I started using it in a smoke tube for a bit of extra smoke and that works great.

    I installed the heavy duty auger motor in my Pit Boss so this would probably work. But I think they would work best in a side burner pot with a short auger. At the risk of having to tear everything apart because of a jam I won't be trying these in my grill. But as others have stated they would be great in a smoke tube. Cheers.

    Thanks again Paul for more LSG PG information. It seems to me that the best pellet grill just got better.
    How much more smoke flavor did the chip-pellet mixture add over pellets alone?
    I guess I'm going to have to stop by and see Chris and pick up a box for myself. I was surprised to not see the chips in a bag to help keep moisture out.

    • @txbluzmn
      @txbluzmn  Год назад +1

      I felt it was a definite upgrade in smoke flavor, but it's not a "night-and-day" difference. In other words, I will still do most of my cooking without them due to them being a little pricey and harder to get.
      To be honest, I was little surprised by the packaging as well, but the chips aren't as moisture sensitive as pellets. Have you ever seen a pellet that got wet? ... not pretty 🙄😬😀 If the chips have a little mosture - it leads to more smoke. I definitely would never soak them, but being exposed to air doesn't hurt them either.
