Correction to video: I had my dates wrong on Can am vs Polaris. Can Am actually released the 172 HP before Polaris released the Turbo S. My bad, I appoligize for that confusion!
The biggest correction needs to be they are NOT 999cc's- they are 900 cc's as always- if and when Polaris up's their horsepower, all Can Am has to do is bump up the cc's on their rotax engine
you prolly dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm you can stream all of the latest series on Instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last months xD
Mannnnnnn, not gunna lie I kinda miss the days when top of the line atvs were like $6-$9000 brand new. Back in the day when raptors ruled the trails and grizzly 660s rules the pits
Tony Scar when I was around 12-13 years old, Yamaha had the raptor and banshee. Kawasaki had the V Force. Bombardier had the DS 650. I dreamed of having all of those. I read every Dirt Wheels mag and collected as much as I can. I miss those days
And back then that was considered very expensive for a $9000 ATV. These side by sides are for rich people or dude bros who finance and go into debt for the next 10 years on a toy.
Willie Jamehufff me and you have to be around the same age because I did the same thing when I was that age. Every chance I got I would read a new dirt wheels magazine from front to back and dreamed of owning a grizzly and raptor 660. And when I got a little older like around 18 or 19 I bought a two year old 2006 ltr450 and loved the thing. The golden age of atvs imo was from around 2003-2010. I feel like the 450 class was the start of something great for sport atvs and then it just all went to shit. I think the poor economy, side by sides and the lack of investments made to the sport ATVs by the manufactures really brought sport atving down. Nowadays the only true sport ATV for sale still is the yfz. The raptor is still badass too. But it sucks that the other big three pretty much gave up on sport atvs... can you imagine how amazing the 450 atv class would be if kawi, Honda, Suzuki and can am still made 450s???
Kenshin Himura yea man I agree with you. I personally have never owned or driven a side by side. I’m sure the are fun but I could never justify spending all that money on one. I would rather take my money and by a 450 sport ATV like a yfz or ltr over a freaking $15,000-$20,000+ side by side that seems like it would get old after awhile.
The XDS TURBO RR is the machine to have in the Mid West. Just got home from a week at the Hatfield McCoy Trails, and 64" was the largest I would like to go. I was riding in a 2019 Maverick X3 Turbo R XDS and had an absolute blast.
72" hasn't been bad so far. Took it to alot of trails in Idaho. I just love the power, leg room, and space between the ppl you be with on the road.no more being crowded, no more fear of rolling over. I can take the turns really tight Unfortunately I got the 2019 MAXXX X3 RS TURBO R 172HP . ( hope I said it right) had I waited a few months later I would have brought the 2020. It's still turns ppls heads when they see the ride
Thanks for the input, Daniel. I can understand why you might be disappointed that they soon came out wit the newer model after purchasing yours. But at the same time, that RS Turbo R is an amazing machine! You should definitely walk around with pride out and about with that beast! So you haven't had any issues riding in Idaho? I thought a lot of their mountain trails were more narrow.
I drove the can am dirt bike it was a 125cc. 1974 was awsome was not much out there. I had a big red 3 wheeler. And honda xr90. I was young was 70s was so fun. U doing good job sir....
I bought a YXZ because I wanted a small “64 inch” quick and reliable side by side for less than 17 grand brand new. These machines now are getting crazy and probably shouldn’t be called “ side by sides” anymore. Soon they will be inching toward 40k...
M K I guess you’ve had a bad experience with a YXZ...we have a bunch of them in our group and no one has had any issues. We are hard on them too. I got a few videos on my channel...
@@DUNEATV Reality is, you like it for very minority reasons, it is not more reliable than any other machine. Just breaks in different ways, and much more expensive to repair when it does.
I think it can be great. I'm not against it. It's just not practical on so many trail systems (like I said, at least in the Midwest). I'm sure it's great for areas like Moab.
@@NavigateOffroad Then don't get the RR. The R in all of these models is 64", cheaper, and with a tune and a few parts will get you the 195hp (or more). You're bitching about a non-issue...
TheDude there are still lots of places where 50” is about as wide as you would want. None of these would make sense in eastern Idaho. But here in the Heber Valley in Utah, and also St George and Moab, 72” is the way to go. So yes it is an issue for some people.
I have road east to west north to south and there isn’t too many trails that I could not go down and I have a 72 inch and if there is I will just jump on my 4 wheeler and ride that that day
It is an issue, as many places cannot support the 72 inch model. No one is whining about it, simply stating a problem with it. I hear you guys, many of my favorite trails I've come to love over the years can only support a 50 inch machine, maybe a 64 if you're lucky.
Picking up a X3 RC RR this week. The 72" wide provides more stability at high speeds. of course, I live out West. If you ever make it out here I'll let you be my friend and sit near it.....
My question to those who say the 72in is too large for trails why not get the 64in. The 72in with 195HP is for the desert of the west not some trail in the mid west or north east. Beside isn’t these new machines maybe too much power even for those small backwoods type trails?
Yup. Which I honestly understand. The trails in WI are not meant for enormous machines, and that's fine. It's not like WI has sand dunes to play around in.
I could make a 72" machine work but my big issue is the 27-30K price tag. A toy at this price point is bordering on the point of being too much in my opinion.
AND POWERTRAIN PROBLEMS (BELTS) STILL A MAJOR PROBLEM. PEOPLE BUY THESE GOLF CARTS NEW AND DROP THEM OFF TO BE CUSTOMIZED. 90% OF THEM CHANGE THE CHASSIS BECAUSE OF NO ROOM . BENT KNEES ALL DAY DOESN'T CUT IT. BUT THE NEW HONDA'S LOOK LIKE A GAME CHANGER
I live in the midwest, so I understand the 64" argument. But I fell in love with the green xmr turbo RR, and ordered one last week. The way I look at it, 64 vs 72" is less than 1 ft wider. So we'll see how Iowa treats it
74 in is literally 6ft 2in wide which is like me laying across a track. That is insane except maybe for mud pit races. Wish they would come out with the 64 in version in an XMR. Here in the south, a mudhole is generally ran through by plenty of ATVs and woods are common. Narrowish is best unless the xmr doesn't even need a lift because the suspension is already capable of lifting by dialing down suspension
I agree with you! It's so dang wide. I would love to see the XMR in a more narrow model. If it was the to k crawler I think I would understand it more. Why the "mud" version is the widest one, I do not understand.
I'd probably go with the X3 XDS Turbo RR. Already has bead locks and the smart lock front diff. You can swap the "trail active" module for the "rock smart" module for $140. I live out west but there are plenty of people running the dunes in 64" machines. Here in Arizona we have a wide variety of trails, some of which favor a 64" machine.
Thanks for the input. I know Arizona has more options for wider machines, but what about narrow trails? Are there any real limitations there that the wider machines miss out on?
@@NavigateOffroad There are very few trails limited by width legally, can't say how many without looking it up. That being said, a lot of desert and mountain trails benefit from the 64 inch width, particularly trails that transition from desert to mountain of which we have a lot. Another consideration is toy hauler options, very few exist that will fit a 72" wide machine. It's only been a few years since the 64" machine was the long travel "wide" one.
Y'all have me confused...it seems like the polls are still out....I will need to do a little research. Polaris went to 168, then Can-Am went to 172 almost immediately after the Turbo S...no?
I have the 2019 max in the 64” and when I buy another one it will be the same in a 2 seater. The 8” width difference is big in the back country and still too wide for some places.
Not a fan of belt driven automatics anymore after having the can am x3 xrs for 2 years now. Looking into the Honda Talan 1000r or the YXZ 1000R SS, granted not as fast but being chain driven and having a option on the Honda to switch from auto to paddle shift is amazing!!!
In both MInnesota and Wisconsin, you cannot license a vehicle wider than 65 inches as a UTV. So you are prohibited from riding any trails with a machine wider than 65 inches.
Here in Texas where these can't be driven on the street legally it seems like a wiser investment to buy a Jeep. I get that SXS are an entirely different animal and I actually have a 2018 RZR 1000xp so I get it. But 30k for a machine that can't be driven on the street and doesn't have heat or A/C or a significant charging system is hard to justify. Mine was 16k OTD and I had a hard time justifying it.....$30k is a whole other level.
A slightly used wildcat sport on Craigslist is selling for $7,500 bucks all day every day in Minnesota and it's 64" wide. For the extra savings you could drop the arctic car 2 stroke M-1000 into it without a turbo and be around 190hp. Plus it would still be under 1100 pounds dry weight. New utv machine's are getting too big and heavy
I’m debating between the MAVERICK X3 MAX X rs TURBO RR (4 seater) and MAVERICK X3 X rs TURBO RR (2 seater). The only reason I’m thinking about the 4 seater is because I want friends and family to have fun. I want the 2 seater because I am all about performance and it weighs 231 lbs less. I feel that it will be more agile, clear more terrain, and simply be faster. I actually have plans to mod the engine and turbo so I Can drag race and just smash out on the dunes. What do you recommend? Also, are the ones I listed the fastest side by sides?
I'd like to see this same video for the narrower 63" machines. I'm in the same boat, these are too wide for my trails and honestly more power than I need. I'd love to see a video discussing more practical midwest and south eastern machines
I totally agree on the 72 inch being to wide, at least in the Midwest, we’re in IN and the trails around here are tight for my 64 PRO XP, if I was at 72 I’d being rubbing trees none stop!
What about the 120hp X3 xmr? You get your 64" width at a lower price tag. Then take the extra $1700+/- and add the intercooler and R tune ... Problem solved if you're okay with a black cage
I live in Michigan and have a 2018 X3 XMR I haven’t had any problems running the trails. There’s was one spot on the Mackinac bridge crossing we did that was really tight, getting between two fence posts.
If the Turbo RR had a real transmission and not the CVT rubber band, they'd have something interesting. They also need to change the seating position to improve over-the-nose visibility. Maybe next year...
hey man, quick correction... 64 inch and 72 inch don't refer to wheel base. Wheel base is measured from center of the the front hub to the center of the back hub on the same side of the machine. 54 inch and 72 inch refer to track width... measured from the center of one tire to the center of the other tire on the same "axle" . Other wise, great video!
The biggest thing about the 72 inch machines is that in many states they aren't even legal to be on the trails. Wisconsin only allows up to 65 inches. So if you get a 72 inch wide machine read the laws on where you want to ride.
Exactly, Dave! That's why Can Am must really be building these things for the West side of the Country. Even on the East Coast I don't believe there are too many trails that will handle these beasts. Seems like they are truly becoming a dune buggy!
@@NavigateOffroad but there are many western states that don't allow them either. South Dakota comes to mind right away. And many trails out west are 50" trails. So the market really starts to shrink at that point.
Yep canam hit a home run but they need to regroup a bit on how wide they make them make a 64 in total package machine as well . I wish they still was making dirt bikes
Whilst I am a Polaris fanboi. I do have to respect the others out there. And I do love everything about this machine except the seating position. That being said. I got the new pro xp and my buddy got the rr. From a dig he ended up taking me towards the top end. In the trails I was slightly faster. But if you look at the big picture. Both of us are doing things that any machine manufacturer would only dream of 10 years ago.
The different letters that go into these names is absolutely confusing and ridiculous lol and I agree with you that most of these are too wide for the mid west trails.
Yea I pinned a comment to the top comments basically saying my bad. But I still haven't been able to hunt down the real, true answer. I was never saying the X3 was out first, I was saying the 172 HP version came out after the Turbo S. I thought the 172 HP model came out a month after the Turbo S. Trying to hunt down the truth yet.
Great Vid !! i was wondering what the RC model was for b4 this ...... serious , lol . down in Florida , south of Orlando , all we have is the Swamp , north and south of lake O . Uncle Sam is trying to buy it out to protect the aquifer 1800 ft down but they should be making huge ATV parks to pay for it lol . anyway would you recommend the rr to someone that rips skin off his knees getting out of a 19 turbo r , everytime . or does Polaris have a better fit for anyone 5'11 or taLLER ?
Lol, yea pretty much. Well, there is the 1 65" model mentioned towards the begining. But I hear you, awesome machines...not really made for the Midwest.
Totally agree on your opinion on the wider machine. I live in northern Iowa and ride a lot in upper Wisconsin near Minnesota and trails won’t support anything wider then 62”....... I just totaled my 2019 and plan to order the 2020 62” turbo rr
The problem is most trails are too narrow for a 72" machine. I say cut the trails wider but they won't do that.... apparently nobody rides dirt bikes and sport quads anymore so there's no excuse for not cutting the trails wider.
Im a Jeep lover at heart and bought a 72" machine recently to get into the side by side world- have no problems in central Colorado so far on the trails this year. However if I want to go skinny I just jump on a KTM 350 and go anywhere. stay wide stay safe- 64inches with portals is an awesome machine but stock 64 is not as maneuverable for crawling as the 72 stock machine IMO
They need a machine that you can make adjustments to go from 64 to 72 without changing the suspension then you will have the best of both worlds trails one day dunes the next.
@@jimdandypearl1895 I don't know I'm not a engineer but I know what I want and there's gotta be a easier way . There's always a big debate about the width of machine's if you want the best suspension you have to go 72 in wide but what if you could have both 🤔
The x3 xmr turbo rr is bad ass. You can go check it out in action on cleetus mcfarlands channel or sxs blog. Sxs blog has the unboxing of this machine and it out in the mud/trails. Yup it was a brand new (literally brand new with 0 miles on it) and cleetus mcfarland just goes and hits a mud hole wide open as soon as he gets it off of the trailer!!! 🤣🤣🤣 talk about a break in procedure lmfao
Hey Jared, Thanks for the tip! I often watch SXS Blog and agree, watching them with these machines is extremely impressive. The XMR Turbo RR is such beast!!
Another option for you would be to purchase the 64-inch Maverick X3 XMR Turbo and with the savings you could put some of the money back into it to regain some of the lost HP you get in the 72-inch version than you have the best of both worlds. Great video by the way and I'm curious now that you have more experience on the smart lock front diff. What are your thoughts on it?
They are pricing them out of reach for most guys, not just ones like you! It's crazy in a few short years how we have gone from basically side by aides not existing, to machines costing 30 grand!
And that's my concern. It seems like you are so limited in many parts of the Country. Then again, maybe a trail that doesn't support that width isn't a trail you really need 195 HP anyway!
If the adult ones are as good as the youth then they seem to be purty good! Got my son a 250 Spire backnin 2015 and he didn ride it much till now! He is small frame 11yearold and it runs 54 with me in other seat...have noticed they no longer sale 250cc and only have 150 for the kids!
Really? Not many trails around here you could pull that off. A few I suppose...the thing is I know of up to 72 inches. Never really paid attention otherwise as most side by aides aren't 74 inches wide!
@@NavigateOffroad yes when north country boys came down he mentioned the same thing, of how tight the trails was up where he's at and that our trails are wide open.
I don't mind them. I get it, popular less expensive tire. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are the best tire out there though. I do like that they include a well know "aftermarket" tire though versus some random nothing tire to save a few bucks.
I don't Think polaris won't give up sportsman XP 1000 got 90 HP highest stock HP well polaris and can-am Will always be biggest rivals so hard to say but i don't know What can-am is planing but polaris gona make something cool i know that
It's good to have that competition out there though, so that's good. It's always good when companies have to compete for the consumer. I'm guessing Polaris will having something up there sleeve.
I know this was in the comments but you do realize a 172 horsepower x3 was available BEFORE THE turbo s was right...? They didnt tweak anything to be more than 168

Totally agree on the width. I live in Minnesota and I think its too wide for our trails. Atleast the one's I have ridden on.
In both MInnesota and Wisconsin, you cannot license a vehicle wider than 65 inches as a UTV. So you are prohibited from riding any trails with a machine wider than 65 inches.
@@jailbird2789 Good to know, as I didnt.
Exactly. You are so limited with where you can ride such an expensive machine.
Is there like an all black package cause for the 4 doors I’m not liking that purple
Yes these things should at least be street legal for this kind of money.
There's never enough power
Thanks for the input, SGTCap1980. I think I will make that video here soon!
That's a great point, Rodney! Personally, that would type of option would suite me better.
Midwest needs to widen its trails.
I live in Michigan and have a 2018 X3 XMR I haven’t had any problems running the trails. There’s was one spot on the Mackinac bridge crossing we did that was really tight, getting between two fence posts.
I was just about to say. I have the 2019 Turbo R X3. I should have waited a few more weeks!
Kiwan Lawson right? I got my 2019 Xrs like a month before the RR came out but it's ok I still love mine
If the Turbo RR had a real transmission and not the CVT rubber band, they'd have something interesting. They also need to change the seating position to improve over-the-nose visibility. Maybe next year...
Escpically the rears too can't see shit out the back if you gotta turn around in the woods good luck
hey man, quick correction...
Great video. Well done
64 inch has amazing suspension. Totally outruns 64 inch wide rzr in the whoops
Good stuff man. I think the smaller xmr sport is the way to go for us midwest guys.
Thanks brother, and I agree. I still think a 50 inch XMR would be awesome as well 😁
The different letters that go into these names is absolutely confusing and ridiculous lol and I agree with you that most of these are too wide for the mid west trails.
Check out the DS models they bring it back down to 64in width, the TRAILS are around 50in wide.
Can-Am came out with the X.3 before Polaris came out with the turbo S
I’m thinking of getting into the RC BLACK 2 seater.
I love can am for me it’s the x ds model I am in the mid west also that model has all I need for around here
Right on, Mike. What part of the Midwest?
Navigate Offroad Farmington Minnesota
WI trails are restricted to 65" wide, and there are still some trails here that are restricted to 50". None of those models will be allowed .
Didn't learn your lesson did you?
What about the toy hauler upgrade that you need to fit these monsters?
😆 no kidding!!
64" is too narrow for me. With the power this machine makes it makes it way too tippy for anything other than trails. Ive owned both.
The problem is most trails are too narrow for a 72" machine. I say cut the trails wider but they won't do that.... apparently nobody rides dirt bikes and sport quads anymore so there's no excuse for not cutting the trails wider.
@@kenshinhimura9387 I get it, but you don't need 181hp on a 64" trail.
Make the wheels go on the machine two different ways
Hey Jared,
Thanks for the tip!
I wish they would have made the trail a little more aggressive looking. Seems like the focus is on the wide-bodies.
Agreed. I do like the look of the trail machines, but I definitely get where you are coming from!
Love my DS Turbo R but damn so much structural upgrades to front end and rear cost me another 5k
One day I pray to God that they double shear the front end and rear..... after that its game over
I would love to have the XMR, but I’m not forking over that kind of money for one. They’re pricing these machines out of reach for guys like me.
They are pricing them out of reach for most guys, not just ones like you!
It's crazy in a few short years how we have gone from basically side by aides not existing, to machines costing 30 grand!
They don't care about you. These things are for the top 10% who earn at least $95k a year and up. They are the only ones who can afford them.
65 inch is the maximum allowed width on trails up here in the Nor East. My sxs is 62 and fits everywhere no issue.
Here in NC I don’t think you would get to far on a 74’m machine
And that's my concern. It seems like you are so limited in many parts of the Country. Then again, maybe a trail that doesn't support that width isn't a trail you really need 195 HP anyway!
Sadly around where I’m from the trails are 66” or less anything wider cants get through due to barricades
64" is way the way to go.
Damn just get to it !!!
Bro I just watched a a denniskirk racing ad with you in it! Didn’t know you were sponsored by them?
Hahaha! That's crazy. Was it a RUclips ad? I'm not, they just asked me to help them out and I jumped one the opportunity!
Navigate Offroad it was an RUclips ad which is crazy.
Have you seen the Bennche ATV and UTVs? They are made in Texas at a reasonable price compared with some of these that cost more than a new car.
No I haven't. I will have to check them out!
I'm so piss off. 2 months ago I brought a 2019.
Now 2020 has a huge change . Dammmm.
Guess I'll buy a 2020 later next year
Love that word. CAN AM...
Great video! I definitely like the xmr version also.
Thanks, Mark! That X MR is an amazing machine! but 74 inches wide is definitely crazy.
@@NavigateOffroad you are definitely correct about that. Some of our trails you would still be ok though.
@@markminyard4874 yea it's definitely a different style. I think both can have their goods and bads.
Agree, not even considering 72 inches.. that's four inches narrower than my grand Cherokee...
For me all Can am is good cuality
Pretty cool 👍
Damn that a lot of money. Might have to take a look at Polaris instead.
They arent much cheaper
That’s the thing you have options to buy the machine that will work best for you. Hell a 50” may be it
They should make an EV and bring the power and torque to a whole new level.
No
I'm sure it's coming soon!
Check out the Nikola NZT (we have a video on the channel). All electric, and 590 HP.
Hell no.
This is a stand up guy.
RZR is on fire right now literally the turbo models are spontaneously combusting
Can-am turbo machines aren't 999cc there an ace 900
Yup, I'm tracking. That was my bad. The worst part is I didn't even realize what I said until someone pointed it out to me!
Yamaha has 200hp so go look. Only ones making quads still??
@@canadaplace2be176 200hp on what? the r1?
72" is illegal on most trails in Minnesota.
I think all MN trails no?
I can not figure out the love affair with 2.0 big horns
A good all around tire to offer on a showroom machine, but dismally unreliable, lack durability.
Cheap and light.
I don't mind them. I get it, popular less expensive tire. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are the best tire out there though. I do like that they include a well know "aftermarket" tire though versus some random nothing tire to save a few bucks.
Wish they would’ve kept the light blue color for the RC models, looked way better than the orange
thumhs up.
Thanks Dive Bar!
No cause velocity turba s can actually hit jumps without blowing through travel like there's no suspension
72 is great everywhere
If your gonna spend 27k what's the differnce in spending 30k
I agree 72” is to wide for 60% of the country.
Who rides anywhere other than the dunes? Gross.
dam a 74" wide xmr that won't work very well here in eastern pennsylvania
I hear that!! Shoot, you would probably have to go all the way to Hatfield McCoys 😂
They should make them street legal.
They are in a few states
They are in aeizona
I am now street legal.
You know what the power is at the rear wheels
Great question, Dan. But honestly I don't...wish I did!
Are you talking about 64" vs 72" vs 74" wheelbase or track width ?
Width. Wheelbase (on the XMR for example) is something like 102 inches (for the 2 seater).
Can you do a review on new trail and sport machines ??
That's a good idea, I should do that. I don't think a lot has changed since last year though. I will have to look into that!
I'd like to see the Sport RC reviewed
The alphabet soup is really going to suck in a few years when these things hit the secondary(used) market.
I know this was in the comments but you do realize a 172 horsepower x3 was available BEFORE THE turbo s was right...? They didnt tweak anything to be more than 168
168 vs 172 is not enough to make any difference.
How you like that CF moto? Great video
29k for my 16 silverado regular cab v8 it is a work truck but still...
If you bought that truck this year and it's not at least an LT double door you got ripped.
