Honestly it’s not fair that ween gets to be good at both gonzo psychedelic rock that’s insanely fun to listen to and then also a heart ripping ballad like this
Love Gene’s live execution. Not only does he bring it. But his pitch and timbre are in perfect control. So many great studio singers that just suck live. He’s not one of them
he's one of the most underrated vocalists in rock. But then again, Deaner is one of the most underrated guitarists and the whole band is the most underrated band in rock history. Altogether, with Claude, Dave, and Glenn...they're unequaled for talent and diversity of sound. They're unreal.
Ween has to be the masters of live arrangements. I've never come across another band who had more songs where I think " how the fuck could they possibly make that work live" and by God every fucking time they do it.
I was -1 years old, and I understand your sentiment, but dont do it brother, the world is a better place with you in it. if you mean age, then congrats on being so old buddy
this perforcance is gutteral. i rarley can be induced to tears from much of anything, but the pure real intensity Gene has feels more real than most art I've ever seen.
This is one of those songs that's so powerful and- like- crazy amazing- Like I can't express how I felt listening to this, I got goosebumps and my heart was in my throat.
On a free ride home from the embassy I saw the governor, and his lover holding hands When I got to my place, I emptied my suitcase And opened the windows wide If you could save yourself, you'd save us all Is that what you called me for, Is that why you're knocking on my door? The time I've spent, working myself to death Thought that's what you wanted I thought you needed my help To make it good again, to make us strong To make you happy, to push you along And gain some respect, to be thrown a crumb I was on my knees, when you knocked me down The wheels fell off, the bottom dropped out The checks all bounced, I came in your mouth Your mother came calling but there was no one around The trash caught fire when the leaves turned brown The vultures were circling when the circus left town I left you a note but I wrote it in disappearing ink If you could save yourself, you'd save us all Is that what you called me for, Is that why you're knocking on my door? The time I've spent, working myself to death Thought that's what you wanted I thought you needed my help To make it good again, to make us strong To make you happy, to push you along And gain some respect, to be thrown a crumb I was on my knees, when you knocked me down
It's pure art, but they're too drunk and stupid to recognize it, which is poetic in its own way paralleling the loneliness and separation. You can tell this song is very emotional for Gener (and Deaner for that matter too with how he watches Gene), and he just absolutely puts every last drop into his music.
i love that i can tell deaner is proud of gene
Same! I noticed that during zoloft in this set. But also looking at him like, maybe hes sorry that hes sad. I might be just projecting

I know I'm proud of em both and especially Gener for conquering so many demons that inspired this song.
Fucking hell every live version of this song is so special
I wish it wasn't so, maybe than I could pick a favorite instead of weeping
Honestly it’s not fair that ween gets to be good at both gonzo psychedelic rock that’s insanely fun to listen to and then also a heart ripping ballad like this
they're great at every genre they try. they're consummate professionals.
This and I Don't Want It are both incredible and heart wrenching. It's crazy how much range they have as a band.
Well life isn’t fair, GET USED TO IT 😂
"By Ween"
How else are people gonna know who wrote these songs
they still say that before each song to this fuckin day its wonderful

I could not agree more. Aaron is really an incredible technical vocalist.
I first saw them live in 1998. His voice was so strong, the records didn’t properly prepare me for how good he sounded.
@@adamrichman6105 I saw them at the Metro that same year for my first live show...holy shit!
Ween has to be the masters of live arrangements. I've never come across another band who had more songs where I think " how the fuck could they possibly make that work live" and by God every fucking time they do it.
and Ween doesn't just let anyone come across them either!
i love the crowd cheers at the "i came in your mouth" line
Said this many times before, Gener is THE most underrated vocalist of any band
Goosebumps, tears, this song is an epic masterpiece.
Indeed. The brownest of the brown my friend!!
RL Stein shit
I was 16 when they played this live.
Didn't really understand ween until about 5 years later.
Staring down the barrel of 39 and still love these boys
don't do it. i've been there. the rollercoaster will come back around. stay alive for ween if anything else.
@@joelowry1323 i think they meant staring down the barrel of being 39, not a gun
@@aer0plane_ lmao ur right sorry i was high as shit i don't even remember commenting this 😭😭

@@locky03 I was 1 and half years and this song hits me harder now then when I didnt know it existed
This song kicks you in the soul
This is the most accurate song about heartbreak and I love every second of it.

He was going through some rough shit at that point too!
@@matthewlutes775 you can tell by his vocals that hes singing from the heart
Shit makes me cry every time
Me too. I only missed this set by six months and a couple thousand miles. Bummed redhead
One of the best songs ever written.
this song tears me apart more than coffee & tacobell tears my asshole apart & THAT SAYS ALOT
Good god..that one got my attention...Their song writing chops have come a long way. I've felt this song more than once in my life.
Every performance of every Ween song needs to go on ten times longer. Especially this one.
“I was I’m my knees when you knocked me down...” Fucking Ween!!!!
So beautiful, I am in tears.
2:40 Us as Ween fans can be awfully classy....
“Did she swallow”
Look at that smirk on Gene after he heard that though
What does she say after? Something something 'I promise'. I can't hear her words.
I think it was something saying that she would, think that is why he smirked lol@@gatorhoy0420
holy fuck - this is 20 years ago.
please don't
this is infinite . time is relative

I don’t think anyone was ready for that epic ending!
This song is F*g brilliant.
In a parallel world this song could have been the biggest hit Duran Duran ever wrote since the mid eighties.
I love how Gener Screams after that last lyric!
This moves me...every time.
Thanks for posting these Ween were before I was born now I get to rewatch these whenever!
we luv u gener
Whewwwwhh, what a tear jerker
So beautiful and real, hail the Boognish for this brown song!
The most amazing voice
This feels so fuckin special man

Excellent!
No…Thank You, Gene!
2:53 "did she swallow" great timing 🤣

Gene killed it
tha friggin lady almost ruinned this by screaming every single thought on her head... She couldn't. Music won.
Ween Rules
Chills
Baby papa
Gener has the soul in him. Praise boognish.

Why Ween and Primus (or at least Les + Ween) never worked together, I'll never know.
why would you choose to be annoying during such a sad song
