Just retired and was looking for a way to make a little doughnut money with my NEW LASER! Needless to say watching your videos I now have a game! I have learned more in a hour or so of watching your videos than I have in the last couple of weeks of burning and learning. Thanks a Million.
How cool is that! I just bought myself a bunch of cutting boards today. My laser arrives on Friday, I can hardly wait.
Brilliant thank you 🙏
Got a handwritten family Christmas cake recipe from my now departed mum that will look amazing using this method so thank you sooooo much for sharing. Glad Inkscape is available for Mac too 👍🏻
Great video 👌🏽definitely going to try out Inkscape
THANK YOU! Just getting to your video took some digging. While I understand so many people own a Glowforge the process just isn't the same for the chinese lasers and my brain was fried just trying to find some sort of help getting started. Your video not only pointed me in the right direction but in my time watching it I engraved my first recipe on a test scrap of mdf. Very invaluable so ill be saving for future reference
Awesome video as always! Just FYI. It's not as intuitive as Inkscape or AI but lightburn has image trace also. And if you toggle the "sketch trace" button, that usually works best for hand writing
AWESOME! I'm gonna have to try that out and maybe do another streamlined version! Thank you sir!
Nice video as always. My sister asked me last week if I could do this. Thank you for all the recommendations.
Nice idea.
And very well explained.
Definitely curious about the next money making ideas (they are great ideas for gifts!)
Nice video. This kind os desktop lasers are good to engrave, like you I used to decorate a wooden spoon. With creativity this is a great tool.
Thanks Garret! Great idea!
Thank you so much for this video. It has given me a really good idea that I know will bring tears to the eyes of some family members.
Awesome! Glad I could help sir!
Awesome video,,,, keep them coming!!! Great job👍
I bought a laser engraver on a flash sale from Banggood. Haven't put it together yet, but your idea on hand written recipe transfered to a cutting board is a cool idea..👍👍
Awsome stuff as always!
Very nicely explained, Thank you.
I determined that I was starting out with a 1,200 x 1,200 DPI jpeg and it was too much for the software. I re-scanned the recipe at 600 x 600 and it is working, thank you.
Thank you very helpful.
love it! What eye protection do you use with the Ortur?
Gracias, ha sido de gran ayuda, me encanto! Eres genial!!
Best video so far.
Thank you for this amazing video! When I get to the point in your video when I make the recipe "filled smooth" it will not update the recipe to that format. Any suggestions/ possible fixes? I have a mac computer... Thank you!
great video, great idea. Did you do a video on your Ortur set up? Not building the laser but I see you have a grid, some kind of red feet and I was wondering if you are engraving in the house and what you are doing for smoke/fumes?
Great question!, I'll follow up on that in another video!
Thanks ⚘
Great video so far, followed all the way up to lightburn and then every thing went south unable to get to the lightburn screen your on, is there something I missed?
Cool idea ..now I need the recipes.... and the lazer 😂
You have inspired me. My laser is supposed to arrive on Sunday. The cutting board is a neat idea but the tiles have given me something to strive for.
I have a question on your laser. Have you put in/on a different optic for focusing?
Thanks for the videos.
I did use a G8 lens on the cutting boards, but you can use the included focusing lens to dial the laser to a pinpoint focus. The tiles are fun!
Thank you
You can use polycrylic and wait 28 days and it is food safe according to fda
Hey man, good morning. You know you're great? Thank you so much not just because of the great idea but the way it's explanted either. Immediately put a like and subscribed even if it was the future video I saw from you. Thank you.
I like so much not the idea of the recipe itself, but the one to transfer handmade writings on wood, of course, this can bring to better ideas ( I've told you my secret). Thank you thank you thank you.
I liked the bloopers! Oh, yeah, the video was good too(kidding). Great idea.
cool videos dude.
If there was a way to modulate beam power, perhaps photos/portraits could be burned?
Photos are typically converted into a halftone pattern (think newsprint). That is one of the most common things to burn.
silly question here... I'm new to lasering (just got my Opt Laser with Uspot and air assist and also the NEJE so called 80W diode). I'm wondering why we need to convert to SVG at all? I'm wondering why wouldn't I just take the JPEG into Photoshop; convert to grayscale; mess with levels-contrast etc to get the background white. Then just use lightburn to laser the image?
Which laser did you use for this ?
Hello Garrett, I have followed your channel into my retirement and have set up an Ortur 20w Laser setup. I am interested in the Handwritten recipe on cutting board product. I am having an issue with Inkscape in that I cannot get passed "TRACING BITMAP" process. I keep getting an "inkscape" is not responding. I get a black screen in the trace bitmap pop up screen. I have a high speed excellent internet access. Any suggestions?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Tom
Will this machine etch in leather, for belts and camera straps? Thanks.
I engrave into leather with my ortur laser master 2 15w. I use 1200-1500mn speed and around 85-95% power. If you get a few different types of leather scraps to test out, you can get a feel for what it will do. Just play around with speeds and power levels. I engrave my kids name in their belts and mine. I also engrave names and solid clip art images into leather keychains. I hope that helps.
What laser did you use?
what are your thoughts on the 5w fox alien laser engraver
I have not used one but the low power lasers can do some amazing things up to the white tile methods!
I'm thinking that would go great on tiles...
wheh i go to inkscape and do like you say, istll get backgrown with reciples what am i doing wrong
Hi guys, I heard that ortur launched a new portable diode laser machine called Aufero, the official sub-brand of Ortur Laser Engraver, Do you think it worth to buy? I'm new to the laser, I heard that Aufero is easily to get started. I really want to buy one.
How long did it take to engrave the whole recipe?
ok, you mentoned in the video that it takes less than 30 mins, how? having the same settings as yours in the video, it takes 3 mins to engrave 1% here... (yes i got exactly the same laser machine + 95% of power burns the whole wood)
use Photoscan to take the pic
Better to have GREAT watchdogs, than not!! LOL
Nice shirt!
Thanks! I'm a big Bobby Duke fan! LOL!
Instead of photos and trying to align it perpendicular and dealing with lights, why not scan it in?
Yep.. You could very well do that and would probably give you better results. Since not everyone owns a scanner, I wanted to try to teach a technique that would be in reach for everyone. But, yes! By all means, a scanner would be great!
If you want to do this with this laser just be prepared to wait for the laser, I bought this laser using Gearbest and I have been waiting for 2 months for it to ship in. I still don’t have it and they haven’t even started shipping it
Oh man! I'm sorry you are having issues Brayden!
I ordered mine from the Ortur store on AliExpress. It took less than a week to arrive. I think it was a little cheaper, too.
Just shipped in, and Im building it rn
Couldn't you scan the image?
Yep! You sure could! I wanted to do something that most everyone has like a phone and/or camera, but sure, a scanner would give you the BEST results in getting a clean scan.
You are better off scanning it. If you don't own a scanner you can go to any Walgreens and get it scanned to an image. (5:10)
Thanks Ron! Yep! Scanners are awesome and will give you the best results, but I wanted to produce something that just about anyone could do!
@@3DPrintFarm how would I use a scanner to do this instead of your way?
Dukie fan!
Bobbyduke wewd approve your shirt.
hello i just stumbled into your channel while looking at lazer cutters and i was wondering if you could do a test on the lazer engraver for acrylic even if you have to paint it. i want to make a business making RGB GPU BACKPLATES (there some ppl doing it already, you can find a lot of videos online) but id like to know what kind of quality i could get on acrylic with a cheap lazer cutter before i buy it, also it would be a good video for you to make if it works
Thanks Jose! I'll consider it!
Old guy figured it out ....LOL
$70 bucks? I'd charge more like $20 or $25 max, with free shipping. I like to do business without the ski mask and gun option. lol
Did you just say "JIF"? "Graphics Interchange Format" = "GIF".... hard G, as in "GUITAR" or "GITHUB" - or do you say "JITHUB"? lol
Like Giraffe? George? Geoff? General?
Bit surprised you mentioned Glowforge.
If you mention a company name people might think you endorse it.
Horribly overpriced, horrible customer service, locked in to using their system.
(If they go out of business your laser will not work anymore.)
If your laser breaks, they send you out a used refurb and on and on...
Glowforge is a trash company.
