  • Today, we'll service the transport in the Teac V-900X, find and fix any imminent problems, check the wow and flutter, test the auto calibration, and do a record/playback test to see how good my dream cassette deck really is. Will it hold its own with the Excelia XK-007? Let's find out!
Once again, there's no way around this being a long video. Complicated deck, many much parts, can't get around it. I'll try to speed things up where possible.
This transport is used in the V-700, V-750, V-800X, V-850X and V-900X; and likely some or all of the Master (Z) series decks as well.
    Factory Control Belt: 6.5" or 165mm I.C. x 1.6mm width (2mm width works great)
    Idler: AS568-107 square profile o-ring (SB1000-107 at allorings.com/Marco Rubber)

Debating if I should by one of these bad boys and restore it. Far more superior functionality and sophistication versus 99% of other cass-decks from same era. This was competing against the likes of JVC DD-9, ReVox B215, some NAK's, etc.
Little Tip: I got lotsa nail polish & marker colors from dollar store. I uniquely color all screws and connectors so I remember what goes where. And pics too of course...

There's really not much to add to the story on this one. It's used regularly and is in perfect working order.

Good job. High W&F. I have the same Teac and the W&F is much less.

It might actually be the tape. Everything I have measures higher with that test tape than it really should. I just got a second test tape to verify against, and will be making my own fairly soon as well using my quartz lock RS-B755.

Factory spec is 0.06%, so it’s right on spec.
