I know I didn't mention everything, like the fact that you had to win a certain amount of games to actually claim the season skin in power league, but I hope I still did a good job on objectively deciding between these two! I was never the biggest fan of power league when it was around, but now that I'm much better at the game than I used to be, I want to experience PL one last time to see how far I could make it

That's basically Ranked past gold 3 but only when you get the "Classic" modifier
I definitely think Power League was more competitive during the later stages which made it a more solid “competitive mode”. But you cannot ignore the fact that ranked is arguably way more popular than power league due to it being a much more enjoyable experience. In my opinion neither is better than the other as both have arguable reasons from a players perspective.

Masters should be the start of power league. Just like diamond changes the rules Masters disables modifiers, lets you drop, and requires you to have more competitive brawlers and a few maxed.
honestly this is such a great idea, as someone hitting masters easily every season, it’ll be fun to have something else to grind for after hitting masters!
the fact you can't move down in ranked is very bad for the people who want a actual competitive mode

my take on it:
ranked: more approachable and enticing for casual players
power league: test of skill for experienced people
whichever you prefer hinges on where you consider yourself in the game, as for many of the older players we think that ranked rn is more of a time consuming game mode rather than a real competitive test of skill that a ranked gamemode in any game should be, mainly due to modifiers
I believe the difference in pl rank vs ranked rank is even higher than what you said. I often find players in my ranked legendary lobbys that didn't even play power league, or haven't seen gold. I wonder if it is the rewards that encourage these players to play ranked

I started playing in late March and hit legendary last season. Though I'd say I am not usually the one to throw, I get what you're saying. I also managed to hit mythic on day 1 of the new season and I am trying to get to masters this time around.

This is the problem for me. Ranked *replaced* Power League as the competitive alternative in the game, but at the same time, tried being more "fun" and appealing for casuals. Having a competitive mode replaced with a casual one labeled as competitive is what bothers me, a lot. If both could co-exist, or if Power League was not replaced by Ranked but rather "evolved", I wouldn't mind it that much. Kinda like with Power Play back in the day. PL was supposedly the natural transition of PP as a more competitive mode in the game, whereas Ranked capitalizes in being a replacement. This results in disputes about things like how Ranked should be treated, how your rank is comparable to the old Power League, etc...
They are different modes and shouldn't be treated as equals, as their focus, strengths, and playerbase is different.
Just make both modes co-exist, where it be having Power League after reaching Masters Ranked, or as a completely different mode.
I was actually really baffled that they made being unable to drop ranks a thing, since it removes some of the punishment that comes with being tilted. That being said, if there is one thing I like about ranked, it's that they are measured with points in numbers, and aren't merely represented by an abstract bar.

There are people getting legendary when they had bronze in pl or didnt even touched it once.
Power 9 vs power 11 is still huge difference. 20% overall but we also have to count gears cuz they are very important too. Game doesnt stop you from picking power 9 brawlers that have fucking nothing except needed level
Power league was not popular across casuals. But imo it was a good thing. The more players the more bad players.
Players in mythic III are still have no clue how to draft and first pick bibi 🤡🤡🤡 and draft is the most important thing in this gamemode.
Power league just needed a couple of changes to be more popular but they decided to completely rework it. Honestly i dont like rewards being absolutely random. It feels so unrewarding grinding hours and getting only 100/170 blings from garbage drops. Ik im complaining about gambling but i really prefer power league system. I grind-> i get currency-> I choose what skin i will buy or save 💰
Also there are currently 80+ brawlers and banning 6 brawlers system was made when there were way less brawlers. I think they should do something with it but idk how. I may be wrong

As somebody who reached legendary in power league, I can confidently say my masters ranked games have around the same skill level as diamond 3 to mythic 1 power league games. Extremely disappointing.

i was around when power play existed (it sucked) and was also around when it got replaced by power league. i would not consider myself a competitive or serious player, but i am a very dedicated player who plays every day and has seen the ups and downs of the game and various metas, so i wouldn't call myself a complete casual. i do enjoy ranked much more than power league, as the stress of losing my rank made me want to actively avoid the mode and the rewards are so much better compared to power league.
power league had a lot of changes throughout it's lifespan, and i think that's worth taking into consideration when comparing it to ranked. power league initially only let each team ban one brawler decided by the team leader (which was also more similar to competitive at the time), people could get away with dodging as there was little penalty, and there was no "close match" or "epic win" bonuses. i imagine that as time goes on, ranked will also only improve more with new modifiers and more QOL so that the overall experience is better. i like that every time you reach a new rank in ranked you can't rank down anymore, and makes the overall experience less stressful.
power league was definitely the better competitive mode and pushed your skill more than ranked, but that's not to say that ranked can't be skillful. there have already been changes to make the classic modifier show up more in higher ranks iirc, and the gameplay from there is the exact same as power league. you could still get bad randoms in power league and it may be worth considering that the reason people look at the mode the way they do right now is recency bias. you did mention in the video though how the mode is more casual which does affect match quality
i think the rewards are so much better now compared to power league. even when the rewards for power league became bling, your choice of skins is way bigger compared to the ones you could get for power points and the amount of bling you could get was insane (250 for one tier!). once ranked replaced power league, i did the math and once you had every ranked non-skin reward you would get even more bling for the same rank compared to what you got before. the fact you can get skins without having to use the bling you're saving for other skins feels very good to me too, even if it's a low chance.

Being diamond in power league is the equivalent of legendary/masters before changes
the power 9 requirement and variable points gain keep me from pushing ranked
Personally, I'm torn between which i like more because in power league, I only got up to mythic, but I really liked the fact that because there were no modifers, i only had to account for a smaller pool or brawlers when picking/banning or considering the meta. But on the other hand, i really like how quick early ranked games are, since it allows me to make unpredicatble plays (like using a niche strat to score quickly in BB). I got to masters fairly easily last season and even easier this season.
Casual, but I am learning how to play more competitively.
i personally think they could add changes to ranked to make it more competitive whilst still keeping the initial goal of adding ranked in mind imo i think they should just remove modifiers once you promote to mythic that way the more casual player base can experience ranked whilst also satisfying the more competitive player base
Another change that i think could work is adding placement matches that take into account your previous rank and the stats that u get during placement matches to make pushing the higher ranks quicker for the more competitve players

modifiers are already disabled in masters, so I think they should just tweak the elo system a bit to make getting there more consistent and less frustrating
@@unfunnyguy1530 i think that modifers being enabled below masters is part of the problem becuase it allows people that shouldnt be in masters get in masters so it makes masters easier past 9000 elo
Ranked feels less "intimidating" than power league.
lots of the top power league players were able to play against pros a lot and some people become pros from just getting master each season
I regert buying cobra lola when it was power league cuz i could have gotten it in a ranked drop (i am f2p btw)
Power League was a sacred gamemode, and cant be compared to Ranked.
I used to really enjoy playing power league as a place to "lock in" with similarly skilled people in a competitive environment. I feel like ranked now is more like the trophy road, for the quick and fun matches, unlike the PL formats.
now I see ranked only as a way to get some ranked star drops for some bling in order to save up to get all of bonnie's skins (I only have soccer bonnie left ignoring true gold and silver)

Fun fact, your teammates can still recommend you to play a brawler that is not power 9 in ranked. Yeah I am just gonna play a brawler that I can't even use. I know it is a nitpick and a leftover from Power league, but still it does get annoying when I'm playing ranked on my mini account and my teammates are suggesting me to play my power 7 Crow.

luckily, ranked just removed modifiers, making it almost as competitive as Power League (I say almost because you can't tilt out of ranks).
they just need to make the matchmaking after hitting masters more precise with similar elo players and put like a new rank you can get only if youre in top 1000 global after the season ends
Masters in ranked isnt equivelant to Legendary PL. Its more like mid diamond PL. I see stupid 80iq players being masters ranked everyday

i think that anyone looking for a truly competitive environment similar to power league should at least be able to get masters bc in masters modifiers are removed. I think the true disparity in competitiveness comes from the wierd matchmaking in the higher elos of masters and such which is think a couple of pro players and such have complained about. If there’s a mythic player or something complaining about how modifiers suck and aren’t competitive it’s just a skill issue

Ranked feels like a glorified party mode and power league felt like an actual Ranked mode.
I think the main problem with ranked and competivness is just how many players are playing ranked vs power league. Modifiers are bad, but they could mitigate the issue by making it thay there is a lower chance to get them the higher you go in game. But the influence of all those bad players would not be healthy for the gamemode to discourage more players

The thing I dislike about ranked are the random rewards. Even if yes they're *potentially* better than in power league, since in the latter you only got a currency strictly for cosmetics (aside from the occasional mexaboxes but that wasn't much), the few legendary star drops you get in ranked weigh than star points. but just that, the randomness of ranked tar drops really put a bitter taste in my mouth. Just this season I got to legendary 3 and from literally every ranked drop I only got bling, and not even the 1000 bling, just a measly 130 or so from every drop. Doesn't it suck to not get that skin guaranteed even after opening every drop? Or at least get the bling for it to buy it next season, specially since ranked is currently the only actual source of bling for f2p
great point! This is another point why ranked is more popular than power league, as more people crave the excitment of RNG, which was less prevalent in power league where you actually knew what you were getting, which was probably a more ethical practice, even if the rewards were worse.

many people say that power league was better because it was much more competitive, people almost always attacked troll, a lvl 1 frank in knockout, things like that, at least I haven't experienced so much troll anymore, I'm also not a big fan of modifiers in competitive I mean, for casual things there is almost never, but for what is supposedly more serious, yes?
That lvl 1 frank in my old pl games was 10x better than 99% of ranked masters players

@@MythicalForce27 yeah but what does that mean? Like I reported people before but it doesn't specify what the punishment was, I haven't got reported myself so I don't know if there's an actual punishment
bad random doesnt give the reported player reputation from a game
Cheating and grief play reduce the reported player's reputation by a small amount
if you get reported, your reputation goes down, and if you get enough reports, you will suspended for multiple hours.
