50 years in the trade, what a beast man. Im 11 years in, im a journeyman electrician in west texas, oil field trash. Even though british and american electricians use totally different materials and have different rules and regulations we go by, we are electricians no matter what country you live in. Cheers from one sparky to another.
@davidc4408 well It can very my man on experience and who you know, but here where I'm at definitely as a journeyman your a 6 figure earner but you can still make 6 figures as an apprentice if your good enough, if you can get into automation you'll just increase your income even more
I retired in October 2020 after 50 years as a JIB GOLD CARD APPROVED INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN ,worked on some of the biggest and prodigies contracts in the country and the biggest companies as well,I didn't want to finish but sadly a knee replacement ended it all
Hello Delroy, Watching and listening to you was music to my ears, I'm a 1970's apprentice and remember well the joys of metal conduit and Pyro as we called it then (MICC to the IET). I remember working on a council development and was amazed the Pyro went surface in the middle of the lounge wall to supply the next flat. And the conduit which was broken or else fed the next door flat!! Remember those metal modular CU's that mated with the conduit sometimes the tubes ran diagonally. I am watching your videos with interest. I am now retired due to a spinal problem probably due to the fact us young lads were thrown beneath the floor or pushed up into the roof to run the cables. Take Care Mate.
Really interseting video, loved to here your stories, and how you went from a school boy to being an Electrician. All the best to you, keep making the video's and looking forward to watching you in 20024.
That was a pleasure to watch, and being a similar age as you, i started in the building trade in 1977, it made me think about my own pathway through working life and brought back some good memories. Thank you,
So glad you released this to your RUclips channel. I was one of the lucky few that went to watch it in the cinema with you. It was great meeting you and during breaks in the video you told us loads of interesting stories of your past. Top video Delroy, maybe I should do something like that maybe?
Good stuff delroy . Reminds me of my times as an apprentice ..in north London nw London and the city ..1973 ..I’ve retired now but this brought back memories …
I really enjoyed your video, brought back a lot of memories, I started with Holiday Hall and Stinson in Balham on 3re August 1970, And still working for myself in Ireland
Fantastic video Delroy. Loving those back stories over the last 50 years. I'm glad you are back on your feet with the videos after that robbery. Love your work and hopefully you will reach 100k subscribers in 2024.
Nice Del , 45 years at it but retired 3 years ago knees and back are finished, too much house bashing you know its a hard game. I only got grade 3 CSE they said I wernt bright enough to be a sparky lol love your channel .
A nice walk through your life as a London Sparky.. lovely stories Delroy, I can certainly relate to the boozing culture that went with being an Electrician.: for myself it was all about the late 1970s and early 80a some of that drinking would put you off for life😂
Hello Delroy. Very interesting documentary video. Funny seeing Transit Custom with steering wheel on the right side. I had transit Custom with steering wheel on the left side working van. Now I have Opel Vivaro full electric. Keep up the good work 😎☀️⚡
Real interesting history Del... Your comment about the guy with the 'shakes' pouring the tea reminds me of a guy I knew in the 60s who suffered very badly from shell-shock after the war. He walked around, but both hands literally wouldn't stop shaking - but he got on with life.. And manually breaking out the ends of the nails... they can't do anything these days unless it has a battery attached; ok, tools save time, but there are some who just don't know how....
Takes me back, I did a few jobs around the London Wall and Liverpool Street areas and onto Heathrow Airport T2 refurb and the fuel depot, sheeeeesh hazardous environment so the conduit threads where double length, would love to have a Hilmor to play with at home,
Nice video gave it a like. On a random note Del standing outside the blocks looks like he could be in a drill music video: "I helped build these blocks so mess with me and i'll throw you off. Your mum's house is powered by electric that i wired up." haha just a random thought lol
What a absolute credit to London and if all migrants had this mindset London be the best place on the planet unfortunately nowadays moste are lazy and just want hand outs
Well, at least you had/still have some form of work ethic. Working for the Local Authority among signing on. Gee, thanks. Absolutely no electric knowledge imparted. I gave it a chance. Quite how this RUclips Channel is supposed to engage me and others ... I have no idea.
@@williammartinculleton5875 If you don't want the sparks when you plug something in, turn it off, before you plug it in. Duh. Nothing ever sparks anyway, unless you are so uncoordinated, it takes you two or three tries to get it in the socket.
Deleoy is in phenominal shape. I'd have never guessed he'd been in the trade 50 years. Obviously clean living and looking after himself. Good man Del.
Thanks for watching
No just good Carribbean food....trust me...and a little rum never hurt 👍

Delroy doesn't suffer from stress, just aggravations!

Wow, hats off to you sir, respect!
My Dad worked in the Mars Bar Factory in Slough London. He used to travel from the North and stay at digs in London.
Interesting look in to your life Del. I grew up in Islington too, still here. 😊

I love some of the site banter and the funny stories. I can't understand why anyone would want to work in an office.
That's one thing I decided from a young age I didn't want to be stuck in one place every day. Thanks for watching.

Can you tell American electricians why you have a completely unnecessary switch on your plugs, that has no purpose at all, what so ever?
Explain how it’s not necessary? Why don’t you have switches

I qualified in 85, at the V+A museum last job for EIL then went to Matthew Hall.
