  • Sheryl and June Valone join Elise Capron and Charlie Carter for a discussion about the origins and behind-the-scenes stories of their podcast series, “The Case for Innocence“.
Growing up as a young Michael Jackson fan, June was passionate about learning everything she could about the King of Pop and his music. But when “Leaving Neverland” was released in early 2019, her mother, Sheryl, was concerned about how to handle this information. Would she have to explain to her daughter that her icon was not the hero she thought he was? Believing in the power of due process, Sheryl chose to do her own research so that she could give her daughter the truth, whatever that might ultimately be. In the course of what became an extensive personal investigation over the course of many months, and which expanded into researching each set of allegations against Michael Jackson, Sheryl realized that the evidence overwhelmingly pointed to Jackson’s innocence. She was also shocked by how many major media outlets and well-known figures had completely disregarded or manipulated the actual facts of the allegations. With a mission to share the truth, Sheryl and June decided to create a deep-dive podcast series which covers every detail of the Chandler allegations, the Arvizo allegations, the Robson allegations, and the Safechuck allegations. They leave no stone unturned, and give a fair and balanced perspective in their approach. They have also created an impressive website which documents, in detail, their sources, and provides a wealth of additional resources for listeners.
In this chat, the team talk about their original motivations for creating this podcast, what the process has been like for them, the reception from the fan community, their experience now that Season One is out in the world, their plans for continuing to reach new listeners, and what we can expect from Season Two.
This episode was edited by Charlie Carter.

I think Sheryl's observation that people were grateful for the podcast says a lot. I had a family member tell me because I was a fan, i was biased. As if a grown person would excuse child molestation on those terms. I think the average person who doesn't know wants to feel like there is an answer, that's all. But no one in their right mind is going to EXCUSE it, so having resources to easily demonstrate to people Michael's innocence is appreciated.

Agreed. My mother treats me the same way 😂. Like I really wouldn't excuse child molestation due to being a fan. She knows I'm someone who is an advocate for justice especially for victims of sexual abuse but yet she thinks I'm blind to MJ

That's really hard to deal with. Those non-fans quickly assume that just because we're fans, we're no longer considering both sides of the story. Sure, Michael had put himself in sticky situations, but that doesn't make him a bad person. He wasn't developed as a human being socially complying to the rules. They keep talking about the "victims" this, "victims" that, but they aren't aware of who the victim really is here, it was Michael.

Thank you mj cast for this great episode, when I saw the names of the guests you are interviewing It made me so happy as a person who watched all the episodes of this great podcast 'mother daughter podcast- Michael Jackson case for innocence ' As a mother and a life long Michael Jackson fan I can understand Sheryl 's position very well, unless there are clear facts and evidence to prove Michael 's innocence no mother would encourage or let their child to pursue their love of his music or the person he was, thats why I did my research after 2019 even in my heart I knew Michael is innocent, the facts presented in this podcast and the logical way those facts were analyzed is a lesson to the media , Im so greatful to Sheryl and June for this podcast, looking forward to the future series of episodes. similar experience as Sheryl, her point being not a fan so she could maintain not baise , 4+ hrs long leaving Neverland documentary led me to unreturnable road to becoming and fan of MJ as a person. I meant after all the research I had done very hard not being his fan. To better understand him I start to listen to his songs, and watch more interviews. reading his book the moonwalk, I am glad I am in Asia so we were not so contaminated by US mainstream medias that time. Most likely we never bother on news on his allegations.. it's American madness ..its all about money, we thought.

America (and Great Britain as well) is not ready for Michael Jackson. They couldn't stand the thought that somebody from the minority can conquer the world through music and goodwill, that they formed this campaign to shut him down. Too bad for them, Michael lives on through his music, still widely heard today, and being discovered for more generations. There are even fans today who are children born after 2009. I vividly remember back in 2019 when the Leaving Neverland garbage came out, blue-checked Twitter people posted that Michael's music can no longer be heard. Now, 4 years later, MJ's music is used in TikTok videos, garnered 30+ million streams on Spotify, what was that again? 😅😅
There are just these jealous people who try so hard to take Michael and his legacy down. If you want to feel stupid, go try to destroy Michael Jackson. Because you can't.

@@chrissylew4669 yeah! it's amazing to know that a documentary built on lies actually lead many people like you to the truth. Somehow, this crap became a blessing in disguise for most people. I can't wait for Taj Jackson's documentary to finally come out, so Michael's name will be cleared once and for all. Social media and the internet has become very helpful to expose the dark system of the entertainment industry and shed light to those victimized by it - among them being Michael Jackson.
Btw I'm from Asia too, I'm just pretty much exposed to western culture. If I do live in America, I might become one of those unfortunate narrow minded people who simply believe in media narratives and never dive deeper to the larger part of the story.

The NYTs narrative and atritude towards MJ was appallibg during the LN. They published 11 or even more articles (that's the online version) within 2 months defending/supporting LN or simply pushing the MJ guilty narrative. Not one critical artical about LNs approach, lack of balance and evidence. Then Ben Shapiro made a podcast about how you must beleive the accuseslrs and how fans are blinded by fame. Mr. Facts-don't-care-about-your -feelings suddenly forgot his own motto. It seems MJ is attacked from left and right and all sides forget the basic rules they usually defend. Just mindblowing. And highly frustrating.
My experience is, that people, who believe in his guilt, will not listen to the "other side", they seem to believe they would be guilty by assosiation. The media attacking MJ fans as delusional works beautifully: if you accept his guilt, you are this enlightened open-minded person, whose humanity lies in siding with victims. I have no idea how and WHY MJ became this main and unquestionalble target. I mean his strangeness made him a great target, but the media is just fine with the Kardashians...

I just finished listening to the LN episodes and now I’m going to listen to the Deception Science: Lie Detection & Bias episode. I already believed that he is innocent, but it’s nice to have all the evidence laid all out. Thank u so much for this video! Just last night I saw a video about MJ "fitting the profile of a pedophile" and the comments there are just devastating. It's got 10k views as well. The way the video uploader puts hearts to the comments of these pro-guilty MJ haters says a lot about her biased view. The saddest part about being an MJ fan is how freaking misunderstood we are. That if you're a fan, your mind is automatically shut and there's no way you will entertain a negative about the person you idolize. Let me tell here the things I disliked about MJ: Number 1, he shouldn't have inconsistently talked about his surgeries. He mentioned in Moonwalk he added a dimple on his chin, then in one interview he said he didn't. Number 2, the dangling Baby Blanket incident, it's truly an error in his part. You see, I'm not giving an excuse to some of his faults because WE ALL HAVE THEM, Michael is NO different. The only vast difference Michael Jackson had compared to all of us is his over-publicized. Since he was a grade-schooler, all eyes are upon him. The world basically watched him grow up, that every changes he made and decisions he picked is highly noticeable. Given this circumstances, Michael Jackson handled himself very well which I doubt we could do if we're in the same exact shoes. Many celebrities and musicians have taken their lives due to personal problems and pressures of superstardom, Michael DIDN'T. That alone is a testament to how strong of a person he was, and it's a thing I'm trying to adapt to my life as an emerging young adult. I just watched Michael's deposition regarding song plagiarism in 1993, and he dealt with it like a pro. No voice raising, no angry yelling to prove his point, he just answered politely and spoke on what he knows, not to mention he was under pain meds at the time. Not only was Michael a strong man, he was a man of virtue, his heart was on his sleeve every single time. Back to the deposition, his throat was sore so he kept coughing. He would say "I'm sorry, I know it kills the microphone man" for the loud coughing when he could just say "excuse me".
Anyway, I've made a lot of points here, and I actually started to geth through the podcast. I'm on the Part 4 of the Chandler's case now, and so far I've learned a LOT, like heck of a lot. I didn't even know about the neuroma that Michael was going through subsequent to the Pepsi fire, I couldn't help but cry finding out that the reason for him wearing a fedora in 1993 WMAs is because of the surgery for that neuroma. Poor Michael! The more I learn about the accusations, the more relieved I am that he's no longer here. Not that I wanted him dead, but because he should NEVER deal with these crap anymore. He already had a full plate since he started out as a child star, and the world treated him badly as he got older. There's a reason why God send someone as great rarely, because we take them for granted and we treat them horribly. Rest in peace, my hero. 🌹

I listened an audio book by Dieter Wiesner who used to be his personal manager of MJ. In his book MJ is even more rounded like you and me... So far I think MJ has being consistent.. I didn't get confused by " what's wrong sharing your bed" statment.. I found he interesting by latest tale told by Jane Fonda ..skinny dipping...😂😂
