I live in New Mexico and I was a volunteer at the Save the Chimps facility in Alamogordo, NM for a week way back in 2009...it is so nice to see all of the chimps from NM now living in Florida. I will never forget my week with them. The staff was so nice and so amazing and obviously had so much love and respect for these very special animals.
This was neat! Could you explain what you do for emergencies like hurricanes? What kind of shelters do the chimps use when they don’t want to be out in foul weather? It’s amazing how far the place has expanded. So many chimps living comfortably there!
I have a response to the person who wrote if we loose the chimpanzee do we loose, there was a article I read not to long back that said we loose animals we loose 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Highly doubtful. they will avoid entering the water at most all costs. There may be one or two in a troop who might actually know how to swim but again, that would be highly doubtful for Lab Chimps. Former pets and entertainment chimps might know and would not be afraid and would perhaps take to the water and successfully navigate onto the other shore. However, as a whole, if they are for some reason in a position where the humans cannot get to them for immediate extraction, then the chimps will go to the safest and most appropriate position that they know of on their island territory and hunker down until they need to go out and forage for food again.
BLESS U ALL BEAUTIFUL ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS

I loved this video! Doc seems like a cool dude to be around.
That's awesome. Great work you're doing.
Thank you so much for the video. You caretakers and volunteers and especially founders are a Godsend. Godbless you all and the chimps.
Really hope human beings learn that chimps aren’t pets, how many have had to suffer over the selfishness of people.

And if something happens like florida has to be evacuated, then ehen the chimps get desperate enough, they will try and swim.

If chimpanzees became extinct would the whole world and environment be catastrophically altered?
