- A review of what has got to be, one of the best value for money model locomotives currently on the market! The Lima Junior (H0 1:87) Diesel Locomotive SNCF Class C 61000, in smart green and yellow livery.
The Class C 61000, was a large 0-6-0 diesel shunter built for heavy shunting around Le Harve, in France. 48 locomotives were constructed between 1950 and 1953, along with a further 12 salve units. Though the Class has now been withdrawn for service with SNCF, several locos have been preserved, along with a number being sold off, for use with private companies.
Though the loco is of European origin, it has number characteristics similar to many UK Based industrial shunters. Making the model perfect for modelling industries such as collieries, steel works and dock yards.
At just shy of £27 (£26.99), the model certainly is amazing value for money, purchased direct from Hornby, via their new International section.
Though marketed as a Junior model, it is by no means a basic, boasting features such as a a powerful 5-Pole Motor, NEM Pockets, Fine Handrails, Directional Lighting, plus more!
It really is an outstanding little model and one I would highly recommend to anyone!

Hope you enjoy!
It seems we both have made a Lima Shunter within two days, coincidence? ;) seriously though that is an amazing model, for a model that is mainly for kids the details is outstanding, puts some of Hornbys models to shame ;) and at such a low price as well is truly brilliant, I reckon Hornby could learn a thing or two from Lima. Keep the faith - Callum
Oh yes ;) Did see that! :D You never know, the model is under the Hornby Brand, so could turn up in the UK range as an industrial at some point :) You never know ;)
Great review again! Such a good value for money loco I wasn't expecting directional lighting!
Thanks mate! It really is indeed! Oh yes, was very surprised by that myself! Really is a cracking little loco
Hi Callum, awesome review again! I did see these on the Hornby website, and did wonder about them considering the price! I'm very tempted to get one now, thanks to your review!
Great work as always mate,
Sam :)
Thanks Sam. Glad review was of help. Highly recommend! You really can't go wrong for the price!
nice to some Lima loco's making a come back and this loco looks the part

thanks for posting.
Thanks mate! For the price you really can't go wrong! Really is a superb little model!
😁
That's a smashing machine and a great review mate :) I really like the continental locos....I have a few that I got from Ebay a few years back...That's an amazing bargain. All the best :)
Thanks ever so much mate! Really is a superb little model indeed! Especially for the price! Certainly is something very different ;) Glad you enjoyed!
It appears to be a very nice 👍 model. Excellent review and now for me, back to work. Rob
Thanks ever so much Rob! Glad you enjoyed! Oh yes, looking forward to seeing more progress :)
Fantastic review of this interesting model mate. This could be your first or second European model in your collection and it is perfect for your Compton Quay layout.
Thanks ever so much Joe. Yep, got a few other European models too, that pose as Industrials for Compton Quay. Amazing little models and superb value for money! This has got to be one of the best value for money models to date! Glad you enjoyed
Just brought this little beauty, can't wait for her to arrive
Excellent news indeed! Really is a cracking model! Hope the video was of help! :)
SDJR7F88 it was only just starting out in the hobby so a long way to go will you be putting dcc in yours if so would like to see a video how to hard wire it
Sadly won't be going DCC, as I still run on good old DC :) Still if I see a video which is of help, I'll send a link your way
SDJR7F88 that would be greatly appreciated thank you very much
Well I am surprised and delighted. Delighted to see Lima back and bringing with it the refreshing price tags that means everybody can once again make a start with model railways without needing a second mortgage! That is what Lima did for me in the 70's and 80's and it is fantastic they are back to save the hobby again in 2017. For £27 you just can't complain and I won't. But I wonder if that really is a five pole motor? being a suspicious type it dd not sound like it lol. Traction tyres are a shame but then Lima always used them. I can see possibilities for this loco, it would be a good candidate for a repaint and own branding and the cost risk would be super low. Nice one Callum.
Can we see more of it Callum, those EU hooks can pull our tightlock stuff ok I do that with my crocs. Would like to see some extended running etc?
It really is an amazing little model indeed! Got to be one the best value for money models around! Was think that too, but looked on a number of sites and bits of paperwork regarding the model and all say Joeuf 5 Pole Motor. Traction tyres are a shame, but doesn't hamper the smooth and slow running. Must say I love to see what people come up with when detailing, repainting of modifying it.
Of course, a short running session will be on the way soon. Have a few items that have the EU coupling and have had the coupled to UK stock too. Though with NEM Pockets, they are very easy to change over if need be :)
Many thanks indeed Mike and hope it's of help!
Certainly was of help mate and have one on order now :) a re-number and name is on the cards and a look at the mechanism to see what its like :)
Excellent news! Glad to here it! Think a rename would be great to see! The plates are quite small on the model, so very easy to cover :) Ah yes, would be very interesting to see that. Starting to think it would be better than the 08 chassis for the GWR 2600 Project ;)
Could do with knowing the measurements to cover the numbers etc in mm (know I already asked but may help others) No rush
Nice little looker too.
Certainly is very different! Can I sense a project coming on...?
Well not from me lol.
Fantastic review mate, this locomotive does look nice but I'm not a massive fan of. Sorry I havent been commenting on any of your last few reviews 🙁
All the best mate,
Mark 👊
Thanks ever so much Mark and no worries :) It's not everyone cup of tea. ;)
A very nice looking model and what a great price. One for Compton Quay with the exaggeration on 'dockyards'?
Thanks ever so much mate! It really is amazing value for money indeed! Oh yes, how did you know ;) Think she will fit in very well on there. Glad you enjoyed
It looks really like a Yorkshire engine co 0-6-0, but the chassis is incorrect for a Yec 0-6-0. But with a little modification you could have quite a nice British version of the lima model
Was thinking the shame thing with that bonnet and grill. Could be a fictional prototype loco they made. Will interesting to see what some people come up with, after a bit of modification.
some thing a little different to the usual UK locos on your layout. is there much of a lima range from hornby?
Sure is indeed. Perfect for an industrial themed layout. There's a fair bit, certainly quite a few cheap European locos, perfect for modification. :)
Yeeeeeeeeeeh i want one :P my Italian Lima Junior has died :( Hornby have said they will repair under warranty, but do u think the fact i have repainted it will affect that offer? If they do fix it then im def gonna hav one of these!
Thought you'd like this one mate! As soon as I saw it online, I though I best let someone know ;) For the price you certainly can't go wrong with this one. Not to sure on that, I'm sure if you explain you've done nothing to the motor or running, and just repainted it (send them a link to you video if need be) then I'm sure they can sort something out. It is a new model after all. Can't wait to see one of these little beauties on you layout! :)
SDJR7F88 aye the a gud un! I know exactly wot id do too it as wel :) im gonna send the loco regardless, it'll go two ways wont it lol
I saw the loco in pictures
Yep ;) Really is a cracking little machine ;)
Mine arrived today, sadly on its way back, coupling rods fitted upside down, oiling points facing down instead of up and body lose with something rattling about :( bit of QC issues
Oiling points are upside down on this one too, same as Matt's too, though personally I don't find this an issue. If it's rattling how ever then I would get that sorted.
Has anyone managed to get the body off yet?
Not to my knowledge yet
OK mate, thanks
Hornby at it's best in terms of budget models...!
Oh yes! Has got to be the best value for money model on the market to date! Well done to them indeed!
is there a link to where to buy one?

Looks a great model for the price....shame the model has traction tyres ....
It really is indeed! A bit, though it does not spoil it's performance! Highly recommend!
