These are pretty sick to be honest. In terms of the Lavaliers, they're not too shabby if one can manage to get them as a free early bird bonus, although I do prefer the tascams in terms of size and sound. I feel like these are easily worth the price tbh. The audio quality is fantastic!

I am shocked to see poor audio pickup and noise in my recordings too. can you make one more video showing how much adjustments you do during the editing process when Gain is set to -4 in the transmitter and what about output gain in the receiver? its 0 or any other value? It will be great help if you can make one more video about post production to produce good quality audio. thank you very much. stay awesome. ❤
Hey Robinc3672! The last part is definitely probably the most important part and you are right most people do not discuss this, which I don't know why. I've provided them to a friend now so I don't have them with me. I have a slightly different set up now. Though with that being said, I can help you out. So on the reciever you don't have to adjust anything as it's all done through the transmitter that'll provide the info for the recievers. Set it to -4 and on the camera itself I had it normally set at -8. Yes the audio will be a bit quieter, but the feedback of the mic is better. It's less sensitive and will mostly pick your voice up. It's not perfect but it works. In the editing process I'll generally up the gain and it'll depend how much its generally about 8-10 dB. The rule of thumb is just keep it at -12 dB overall. I may definitely make a video about post production sometime though as well with my set up as regardless of audio for the most part when it comes to lavs, the idea is the same. Keep the gain low on camera and on the transmitter, then bring it up in post. The reason it works as mentioned earlier, is because its less sensitive and will focus more on your voice so the background noise will be a lot less than If you didn't adjust the gain. I was bit terrified after purchasing it to use primarily as a voice recorder (just transmitter) for my shorts and reels videos. mostly I will use just the transmitter for voice overs. Felt like I made a big mistake by spending this much on a mic. I did some adjustment in post and finally able to minimise the background noise or white noise that was bothering me. Please do make the video from your side too. Strange thing is, the background noise is not audible when we listen through computer speakers. But when I listen to the same audio in my iPhone speakers, I can very much hear the background noise. Do test that case too if possible. I have used Limiter in Final Cut Pro adjust gain overall and set the value between -6 to -12db. Added 30% voice isolation and my audio for the Hollyland Internal Recording is much much better now :) ❤Decided to keep this unit for next few years :) thank you so much for your time. will keep following your upcoming videos. have a good productive day.
@@robinc3672 You're very welcome, happy to help! regarding the speakers being different to the iphone speakers - this technically would be more of an issue possibly to do with your iphone than the actual audio itself or the speakers - I'd test them both with just background noise recorded (foley / atmos) and really listen to the feedback on both and see if there's a consistency, this way you can rule out if one of them is bad or not. (Believe me, it happens!). I definitely will look to cover more on audio in a future video! I use premier myself - though i do hear good things about Final Cut, I'm really happy to hear it's working well for you! Hollyland do make great products and while it's great there's a new product coming around every corner - you really don't need it! You're as good as the tools you currently have. how about is there a way to preview immediately the internal recorded audio of lark max transmitter? maybe phone app or computer software to preview them wirelessly?
that's a great question, sadly as far as I'm aware - that isn't possible with Hollyland Lark MAX. Rode has that option through the PC app which is great. Unfortunately for MAX there isn't any.
Someone really needs to 3d print some locking screw system for the external mics so that they remain secure. That and 32 bit float it’s the only thing misssing imo.

Their customer service was amazing! Something happened with my order where it was out of stock but once they got them back they did express delivery for me I got them right away and I didint order mine during the lavalier mic bonus but they still sent me them for free days later! It really made me become a customer now and I can’t wait to buy more from them, i own the DJi and rode 2 and I move the lark max more now
That's awesome man! Its so good to hear they took care of you and threw in the lavs as a bonus! that's sick! I've still got the rode 2's myself, and I agree - the extra functions and what not lean me back to the MAX. Can I ask if you noticed much difference between the MAX and DJI mics?
I love the dji mic they sound clear and have done so much but one issue for me is they pick up so much noise what I mean is you will hear a lot of that background as well even with the features it offers. Even with very low gain it will pick up so much noise / static noise, i know we can edit it out at the end but there is times where it can be a hastle, And also compared to lark max the mark feels way more better built also the way the dji holds onto an iPhone or phone is so scary because one fall can just probably crack the whole thing.

Hey great review! I'm a beginner and just picked these up. What kind of settings do you adjust on the camera after you plug it in? I can't find that anywhere. The PDF says to turn down the rec audio on the camera to 0 and the output on the transmitter to medium, but I don't really get what that means. I don't hear audio when I set rec volume to 0 unless I'm doing something wrong (which is likely!) I couldn't really tell the difference between the 3 audio settings. Which do you prefer?
That's a great question and welcome! Glad you enjoyed the review. So to help you out, I set my camera (FX3 and a7IV) to +8 on the camera mic and -4 on gain for the MAX. This will make it a little quieter with clean sound that you can boost up in post without getting any unwanted noise. No you don't want to set it to 0 ha ha as it just mutes the mics as its running through the camera. I tend to use Hi-Fi though they all work relatively well. HiFi is what I recommend. Also turn on the AI mode that makes the mic highlight green. That cleans up the audio a bit too and that should be it my friend :)
I had some issues with audio distortion when I used this system on my professional broadcast camera. I set the audio gain on the transmitter to -10 because On my broadcast TV camera it has audio volume control and when I would turn it up just a bit it would distort going into my camera...I used the back-up audio on the transmitter which sounded fine, can you help me figure out the right setting? also can I boost the volume on the receiver to monitor at real time?
I understand, I saw those on the DJI mic from what I hear, they're a bit finicky. The MAX doss come with the 3.5mm cable for phones as well though which does work well.
@@1pac882 it's actually quite good! Does a pretty good job preventing rumble sounds and it's a lot more intuitive when it comes to placing it on. It simply covers the mic and stays on. The RODE Wireless GO II's windshield was a nightmare of twist and turns ha ha. This simply covers it and you just pull it out to take it off. Very simple yet effective design.
@Addrian. thanks I heard the dji windshield is a twist and lock one that holds on well,and the rode was a bit flimsy and detaches easily, does the Hollyland one locks on properly?
@@1pac882 yeah it's actually pretty good. Though this doesn't have a twist and turn. It's like a rubber padding of the windshield that grips to the mic. It works pretty well from what I've tested.
Yes you can do it on the mics on their physical side or on the little monitor of the reciever. There's an option to mute the audio / mic or leave it on. :)

Mic gain on camera is at 8, the mic gain on hollyland mics are at -4. The idea is to get less unwanted noise in post. I do amp it up but not by a lot

Yes you can. On-board camera and off camera you can record with these.
