I bought some cheap lampshades from the dollar store a while ago. They were almost like a burlap fabric and had an orange chevron pattern. I don't particular love the color orange. So after a few weeks of dealing with it I painted both shades all over with some aqua colored paint I had left over from when I painted my front door. The effect was the neatest thing! The burlap took the paint so nicely! I started to spray paint them but the burlap wasn't sticking the way I wanted it to. So I love little projects like this! I love the outcome and I love that lamp base! In my moms family we are all huge history buffs and that lamp could fit in any of our homes! I have a cousin that has a burgundy colored bedroom and over his bed he has three enormous portraits of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. That lamp would right at home in his bedroom.
Sophia I love it. I also love the fact that you're ok if it's not perfect! I think it fits perfectly in your living room. You inspire me so much to try things even if I'm not an expert at least I can try my best! I love all of your DIYs and even more so that you claim you're not a professional and will just do the best you can. It gives us all a feeling just to go out and try something even if you haven't done it before.😊
I love the gold inside. I do this to my lamps too, it gives a soft warm glow in the evening, as opposed to the glare that white insides can sometimes give. you did a lovely job on the shade, your patience with glue is something I will never have.
Sophia, you are amazing. The lampshade looks fantastic, and you are an absolute creative artist! This looks like it took a lot of patience, and the outcome was worth it.
+friendoftherese1 I noticed that some comments indicate that the shade does not fit the Federal style, but I say "Who cares?" Where is the rule that says you can't mix styles if the outcome is fabulous? The fact that you plunged in and did it yourself is just awesome. Keep at it girlfriend!
Great job, nothing ventured nothing gained. Looks good brighter than the black shade and I think the gold lining is oh so cool. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter.
I think it is a nice improvement over the original lampshade. And I really like the way the inside and the outside paint colors turned out, especially the outside. The texture really looks more like linen to me. Thanks for sharing!
I think what you did was a beautiful job. No one will be looking at the lamp as closely as you would. It fits perfectly into the room and blends well. I think perhaps that the eagle base is the real focus. The whole thing is gorgeous. If I went to your house i would never notice the imperfections unless you told me.
I like the new model of the shade! The ruffle on the bottom I think would have been plenty, with just the braid on top... but it definitely looks brighter. The fact you like the lamp is all that matters! My mother was crazy for Federal style decor. So, it makes me smile to see it! good job!
Your lampshade turned out very nice! It does look so much brighter and better! I love the gold inside, great idea! I also especially like the cording you used, I think maybe I would have just used the cord around the edge. But, hey, it's your lamp and you can do it the way you like best!! That is the fun part of DIY !! You did a GREAT job!
Its very good Sophia . I had an old lamp and i glued lace over its lampshade and for the top and bottom i glued ribbon with tassels Your idea is wonderful , and the lamp is awesome .
Yes, that's what I was thinking. I hope she does not think I'm being rude, I always like the things she does, and I greatly admire her energy and talent.
Sophia, you are such an inspiration to me. Hey, I see that it doesn't fit the federal style, but guess what, you made it. It is much better than the black, it fits in better with the decor and I know you will find the perfect fit soon. You may end up finding a picture of the style you like and you just have to DIY it again. Don't lose hope, you are doing a great job!
I can sense you are ambivalent about the result, and it was fun watching you fearlessly tackle the project. I agree with you that this frilly feminine shade does not really go with your federal lamp. I loved that you posted another video so soon, and I hope you all have a Happy Easter.
Hi Sophia ! Okay, it's not perfect BUT I love this makeover ! This lamp looks definitely new and it goes with your decor. This is so you and you made it, you can be proud of yourself ! Have a good day ! -Sophie
Hi there Sophia. Happy Easter. This is totall unrelated to above video. I just wanted to ask you if you are still using your Malden pocket in purple and the bag Mailbag in Pink Swirls I think. IF not can you do an updated Whats in my bag please. Thankyou Maggie :)

I would have just sanded and used the paint to paint it leaving out the frill you could have also used red paint on the outside with the gold in the inside. But I agree looks better than before great work Sophia xx
You could have used a hot glue gun for attaching the ribbon and trim, same where you used the tape on the drum part. Our motto is "when in doubt, use hot glue" lol...:)

I love it! It's an original and way better than just buying a lamp shade from some big box store. It's a great piece and looks beautiful in your home.

+friendoftherese1 it s true it does not match and yes I do not care - I needed to have something other than busted black and that works for me
Great job, nothing ventured nothing gained. Looks good brighter than the black shade and I think the gold lining is oh so cool.
Hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter.
A lot better then what you'd buy at the store that's for sure! Great job as always Sophia!👍🏾

So easy to throw something out and buy new! But to recycle is the best!! 👍
You inspire me to try. I often don't do things because I'm afraid its not going to be perfect. You took a chance and it came out great!

+Mary Lyons thank you
+My Great Challenge you are welcome..
you did a awesome job
Great videos!!!
I really like it
Looks nice:)
Great job
If I might make a suggestion, remove the top ruffle, it's distracting, just a little too much. Perhaps, just the braid without the ruffle.
+Donna Shaw I think I agree with you on this, the braid on it's own level with the top. Lorna UK
Great job :)
excellent video
A lot of work!

still using them
If you're willing, you could also spray paint the base a light beige or white to better match. But good job!
