How does the high cost of pick up trucks and duallies needed to pull a trailer affect the RV dealer these days?. The cost of trucks are still very high and don't see much relief on the horizon.
After watching this video I wanted to share my thoughts/observations. My wife and I are fulltimers (2 years now) & travel across the US. In the past 6-9 months we have noticed RV lots packed with units. Once in a while if we have time we'll stop in. I'm amazed at the number of buyers NOT present. We'll also peruse like, FB Marketplace, and the shear # of RV that people are trying to sell is amazing. We just spent 2 weeks in Indiana having chassis & coach service performed. Talking to different people in the area you hear how plants are closing down 1 extra day a week. Heard some talk about having 2 weeks off in the spring. There is such a glut of new and used RV's out there. It's a buyers market now compared to 2-3 years ago, but with current interest rates, it's scary.
I think the man from PPL is telling us a fairy tale. If I didn't already have a motorhome, I would not buy any RV now. Here in California with the price of regular gas is from $4.00 to $5.00 per gallon and the RV campgrounds have raised prices, you have to be crazy to buy an RV.
We bought a new custom Class B RV this year - designed for boondocking. No need for campgrounds - ever. Last trip it got around 18mpg - not much different from my truck.
@@44door22 I guess that depends on what you consider " so cal ". I just looked on the app I have called " The Dyrt " and there are tons of boondocking and camping spots in so cal - Joshua Tree, Idylwild area, all over the Angeles Crest / San Bernadino mountains etc. But no, you probably can't boondock in Hermosa Beach. I left so cal for Northern CA in 1995 and never looked back.
I have had NOTHING but issues with PPL in Houston from lack of communication, returned calls, nickel and dime for service on potential buyers, not responsible for any lot maintenance, and the service department even lost our RV for 4 months!!
Sadly RVing has drastically changed. Had RV for 15 years got rid of it 12 years ago and never looked back. Costs and regulations (at campgrounds and rv’s) have changed the RV dynamic drastically
There are dealers in Washington State that still have new 2022 they can't sell. In regards to financing, the banks look at those as used even though they are new. Why buy used when there are new 22 and even 23's out there. And, like you say, 25's will be out soon.
I have 5 neighbors that bought rv’s in the last 4 yrs. ALL regret it. Costs are so prohibitive all around in its use they are just sitting and rotting in there driveways. Small towable to custom super c’s just sitting and rotting. All initially supported by COVID relief (my tax money) central bankers should go to jail…
They just don't pencil well at all if you take the time to add up the costs. You can stay in a nice airbnb or rent a house for a couple months and not deal with all the BS of towing, maintenance, repairs, etc..
They took advantage of people during Covid by upping prices (limited supply) and now upped their commission to sell. I hope they enjoy it. I think they will pay for taking advantage of folks. Sad.
10% what! He said that with a straight face. Another dealer to avoid. Bottom line quality of builds do not substantiate the price sorry. Approved dealer means nothing to me.
I must say y'all have got me a tad concerned. We're hoping to downsize from our 2020 33' Jayco, and you're not painting a very rosy picture. We ordered it and took delivery ONE day BEFORE everything shut down.
Great show Thanks Alan and Scott ! Really enjoy the interviews when they stop by your program ! BTW Just a little humor could you put your first name under Wingman Nation so people could have a shot at getting it right !!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Thanks again from Kevin & Terry in France and Florida
Even though I did not end up consigning with PPL back when I was selling my 2014 Jayco Melbourne 29D 2 years ago , I must say all my dealings with them were highly professional & above board! The Only reason I didn’t was distance! Living alone with dogs I would have to board them for 1+ weeks, drive it down from Michigan to Texas, then fly home. Or pay one of their people to fly up here & then drive it down. It just wasn’t going to work; but they were awesome!!
Any dealer's claiming demand is high and sales are good are blowing smoke. The RV industry deserves the same trouncing the car dealers are experiencing and hopefully will get worse for them. It's the price to pay for making a garbage product, providing poor service and charging a fortune. Not one tear shed here. We wisely unloaded our RV 3 years ago on the front end of the Covid disaster for more than we paid for it but still winter in a resort in AZ that has both park homes and RV's. Due to the disaster of Bidenomics the past 3 years, I see sellers of both kinds running for the exits. And prices are falling faster than Biden can climb the steps of Airforce One. This economy is going to get worse, much worse. Everything costs more. Much more. Not the 3% the crooked bureaucrats and media are gaslighting you about 24/7. Average credit card dept is at an all-time high. Auto loan defaults are up double digits. I read there aren't enough people in the repo business to meet the demand. Fuel prices are already starting to spike, and insurance costs are skyrocketing. Anyone expecting interest rates to drop are dreamers. The days of low interest rates are forever gone. People are unloading non-essential expenses so they can pay for the basics like food, shelter and basic transportation. Lastly, sorry but any dealer charging you 10% commission to sell an RV you got ripped off for and are now upside down, isn't helping you. He's taking advantage of your misery and poor decision making and piling on. It falls into the category of "hi, I'm from the IRS and I'm here to help". Total BS.
I have a simple question. Where would I get an RV serviced, be it brand new or used, If I were to buy it from PPL or any other dealer that is not near my home town or home base? Example. I would like to buy a Rove Lite Travel Trailer. The nearest dealer for an Rove Lite Travel Trailer is well over 100 miles from me. My question is simple, but from what I am learning RV dealerships are at no obligation at all to service any RV that they did not sell.
He’s a salesman. But there is truth in what he says. If you’re upside down and have to sell, anything that limits your loss is a win. This is why you don’t buy an RV on credit. It’s throwing good money after bad. We bought in 2021, yes we paid more than if we’d bought it in 2020. But we paid cash on a newer used model (built before the boom in production). We’re happy with it. We’ve decided we likely won’t buy another one when the time comes to replace it. We will rent to avoid the costs of maintenance, storage, etc once we retire. Whatever we get from the sale of the trailer and truck will go into our travel fund.
Ron, you should probably tell your viewers that Lemon Law Lawyers like Ron Burdge don't deal with regular folks on Lemon Camper who didn't spent over $50,000. This is ridiculous that I cannot find resolution to my issues I have had for OVER A YEAR NOW. I've followed the rules on how to contact to get resolution and I'm here with a useless camper I still have to make payments on. Make sure you give everyone the WHOLE story.
We're ordering a brand spanking new 2024 Rockwood tomorrow morning. After 6 years of research, we're confident Rockwood builds one of the best quality campers out there today.
If you have a real campfire chat or just a good get-together with other rv owners, you have enough spots for all your friends (followers). I'd be there.
Allen I just ordered a genesis vortex toy hauler and dealer told me when it arrives it will be a 2025 just thought u might want to know this. Really enjoy ur shows they have been super helpful in keeping me from making a huge mistake on my purchase.
Mr. Stonehill as you talked about helping people out and your example of "instead of $20,000 upside down we can have people come up with ONLY $6000 instead." Where do you think the other $14,000 went??......INTO THE NEW LOAN!!! So now, AGAIN upside down on the new unit too, AND they came up with $6000!!!.......So I am Not sure how you are "helping them out"????????
It can't be to bad for new, the dealer I want to buy one from doesn't have any inventory from Newmar ever this is either sold before it hits the lot. I need to get up there and order one but it is aways for me to get there 5 to 6 hour drive.
Allan what happened to have fun and don't leave your good manners behind I really liked the way you used to end your videos? But one thing is correct the market is in the tank and only the good ones will survive I hope because we can't afford C.W. to take over the majority.
Some people who saved and prepared can actually buy new and enjoy for years down the road and yes, some people will never understand and that's alright.
I don’t think you’ve every stepped out of that office. An outdoor show , from inside. I’ve never seen you camp anywhere. You go however talk. If you ever get lost in the woods, we’ll just listen. Find you that easy.

What I learned in college was that a growing inventory equates to less sales.
You paid for that?
No dealer is going to tell you they’re doing bad not matter how bad it is
Dealers should ask the government to buy RVs for the migrants that are in hotel rooms for 500.00 a day!

Discounted garbage is still garbage

my experience this past 5 months is the rv parks are not busy. lots of availability
Of course your rv dealer is going to paint a rosey picture. Cmon.

There is no way any salesperson can keep up with all new and old features for every brand and model.
Until they come down in price I'm not interested.

Build quality sucks for anything less than $1MM. Buy used or don't buy. Only way to go.
Rockwood builds a great quality camper. Watch the factory tours.
Why would anyone buy new???? I will never understand!!!!!!!

What would be the best 10 year old camper to buy, not a 5th wheel
