In this video I said that Groups are invisible in your animation; that is not the case. When you use a group in an animation you will see every layer inside that group in one animation frame.
Thank you! This is the clearest, most informative tutorial I could find on the animation tools in Procreate. You’re a star for taking the trouble to make it.
Visual Timmy you have deciphered what I could not. Thank you so much I can actually animate without wanting to tear my brain out of my head to shake it now
Thank you for sharing this video with us, you made it so easy to understand and the bonus is that you covered a lot in such a short amount of time! I am so pleased I came across your video :)
Just watched again because I remember seeing a great tip when making backgrounds. I had no idea you could use the selection tool to make background mountains etc like that.
is it possible to animate the foreground and the background or would you have to animate the background and foreground with the rest of the animation? also thank you for this video!!
Great question. Alpha threshold determines where your alpha layer will begin. Use this setting if you want your gif to be transparent. If the gif is simple in nature, you can just drag the alpha to 80%-ish and it should look good. If your gif is complex and has lots of colors I would pay a bit closer attention to how it changes the transparencies. Export a couple versions and compare them if need be! Think of alpha channel as the channel that defines the outline of your transparency. Sorta like how alpha lock locks only on the pixels that have been turned on 😎🧠🚀
@@VisualTimmy thanks for the quick reply, I definitely notice a difference when adjusting it but it’s often to small for me to find the best quality so I’ll do trial and error, a lot of my work is coloured, thanks for the great explanation, couldn’t see it anywhere on Procreate
Are you able to have a sketch layer and lineart layer while youre animating? Animating without a rough sketch underneath while im cleaning it up is really awkward
You can make a folder (group) and draw the arms and legs/ expressions/ etc. on separate layers. Otherwise, you will need to redraw each frame entirely!
I made an animation where a cat climbs up a book pile. my first three layers of the book pile don't show till the end, so apparently my cat is climbing in the air 😒🙄... Pls help, what do i do about it? Do i need to draw the pile in every layer?
You can create a layer at the very bottom of your layer stack. Paint any static objects on that layer. Then (while in Animation Assist) tap on the first layer in the bottom bar and press "Background Layer". This background layer will show on every frame of the animation, but it will not move. Hope this helps!
hey i installed procreate on my android phone from a link but it isnt having animation option the one u re using pls help me out how can i figure it out?
If there is a blank screen in between frames it might be caused by a layer. Check your layers panel for extra layers that don’t have anything in them. Be sure to turn them off, or delete them for a smooth animation. 😃
yes, but it depends on what you're trying to animate. Maybe you painted a character, but you only want to animate the hair and eyes. Then you could duplicate the character's layers and only paint over the eyes and hair - leaving the rest the same. But if you want to animate the entire thing, then you'll either need to repaint it or duplicate it and make your adjustments!
Michael Lakoudis you’re right. Once I finished editing I realized I missed some things I wanted to mention. First, it doesn’t handle extremely high resolution animations very well. Being that your layers are limited by your canvas size, the bigger you go, the less frames you can have. (This is less of a problem in Adobe programs. Second, there’s no automation tools, like smoothing, and ease-in and ease-out. Granted this is a raster program and isn’t equipped to handle vectors and custom code (like after effects). And lastly, I wish that the exporting system was a bit better for exporting to video. Lots of times my animation will render out as a 1 second movie. Even if I have the looping option enabled. I would like to see an option to export an extended loop of my animation. (Example: my 1 second animation loop exported to a 15 second video file). Hope this helps
@@VisualTimmy Thank you very much. Great analysis. I found a great app called Gifvid. Turns a Gif to a video of a desired length or visa versa. So export from Procreate as a Gif should do the trick but like you said it would be good if it was an inbuilt option.
@@Michael_Lak very true! I end up. Exporting to my video to my video editing software (LumaFusion on iOS) and looping it manually so I can add music, etc. Thanks for commenting and sharing Gifvid :)

Version 5 I never learned. Excellent tips and warns about order of layers, establishing foreground and background, and midground space.
7:24 foreground blending. I like this tip about background layers that can be static.
Finally I found the background tip that I needed. You’re a great help!
Happy to help 😃
Big help, thank you!

Great explanation. Please do another!
Yes, it’s about time for an updated video 😎
Cool thanks!
Thanks for tip
Well done ! Very helpful !
Glad you enjoyed 👍🏼
Looks looks like me when i was homeless in Connecticut.
Can you do a tutorial on how to animate the background and the subject at the same time? Please.
This takes 2 projects, or exporting as transparent HVEC and then combining it using a video editing software. I like “LumaFusion” for iPad!

Is there any way to have more depth and layers in animation, more than the foreground, background
is it possible to animate the foreground and the background or would you have to animate the background and foreground with the rest of the animation? also thank you for this video!!
You’d need to create a new animation, with a transparent background and save as HEVC - then combine them in a video editor 👍🏼

This is a wanderful video instruction. Than you. Is there a way you can instruct how to upload the GIF to GIFPHY?
Export your file as an animated GIF, then create a giphy account, log in and post it right to giphy!
I can make a video!

It was interesting and useful. Thank you. Well done!
You're welcome!

Make a "group" for each layer. then you can have the sketch behind and use it for reference!
Since layers are frames, how do I move parts of the body (for exemple) independently ?
You can make a folder (group) and draw the arms and legs/ expressions/ etc. on separate layers. Otherwise, you will need to redraw each frame entirely!

This is likely a fake procreate version since it’s only for iOS
Is it possible to convert a finished drawing into an animation?
Absolutely, with some tweaks you can definitely do that. Ill make a video showing how!
Yes please do!

Im not sure how to do it with mine. For example, I made a Drawing and its colourful. If I add a new layer, do I have to draw the whole thing again?
yes, but it depends on what you're trying to animate. Maybe you painted a character, but you only want to animate the hair and eyes. how come when I do this 2k by 2k format my layers say 63? Is it because this video is 3yrs old or?
It depends on your iPad model, some iPads have more/ less layers. Also when Procreate Updates, it will also effect this number

00:48 mine said 63 layers in 2000 x 2000 canvas
it depends on the ipad model!
