Five years earlier, best actress Oscars 2002 all the nominees in that category right now have Oscars...!!! Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Sisy Spacek, Judi Dench, and Renee Zellweger...!!!
This was probably the best bunch of nominees in recent memory. Cruz gave such a passionate, natural and earthy performance in 'Volver', Winslet delivered a brilliantly detailed, nuanced and complex performance, Streep created an iconic film character who'll remain one of her 'signature roles', Dame Judi Dench was divine in her portrayal of such an evil and disturbing character, and Helen Mirren nailed every expression of Queen Elizabeth II with dignity and professionalism. Whom to choose?!
Her acceptance speech were impeccable, she thanked the academy, mentioned her family, the fellow nominee, the filmakers, and she summarize her movie, just for 1:20 min.
Helen Mirren was so amazing. She didn't just gave a perfect portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II. She also portrayed her with so much respect and as a human being and not only as a royal figure. Judi Dench was also great. She could have easily won the two years before, when Witherspoon (Walk the Line) and Swank (Million Dollar Baby) won. But this one belongs to Mirren.
Akash Vijay Well, I can see your point. Dench was amazing and it's the best performance I have seen by her (and that means something), she would be a very close second to me. For me this was one of those Hoffman-Ledger, Cotillard-Christie or Kidman-Moore years, where I totally agree with the Academy's decision, but felt sorry for another nominee because his/her performance would also have been Oscar-worthy (just my opinion).
Sabrina Ross I thought Dench was much better and should have won that year. She was also robbed of a best actress oscar for Mrs Brown. It's surprising that the only oscar she has is the one for Shakespeare in Love.
What makes this speech extra special is that rather focusing on just thanking her manager, family, and on and on, she builds on a humbleness and gratitude. She goes the extra step by saluting her character, Queen Elizabeth II. No long list of people, no supersized ego. Just pure gratitude. What every Oscar speech should be like.
Unfortunately, the Academy does not have the rights to show the film clips. We get permission from the studios to show the clips during the telecast but that does not include showing them on any of our online platforms. Sorry.
This woman is the true definition of class, elegance and refined beauty. She looked radiant up on that stage with her shimmering dress on, I have to say she is truly something else.
All of the Best Actress Nominees of 2006 have won at least 1 Oscar: Helen Mirren: The Queen Judi Dench: Shakespeare in Love Meryl Streep: Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice, and The Iron Lady Kate Winslet: The Reader Penelope Cruz: Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Penelope deserves totally this nomination. Her performance in Volver is a fantastic demonstration of not only technique, but art. Helen Mirren deserved the Oscar, but Penelope was incredible and her role in this movie is underrated. This performance was far best than the one in Vicky Cristina Barcelona
They ignored some truly fantastic performances that year - Sigourney Weaver in "Snow Cake", Laura Dern in "Inland Empire", Kim Basinger in "Even Money". Despite that I love Helen in "The Queen". She was amazing
More like Beyoncé, who is always nominated when one of her albums are out. Beyoncé never won the biggest awards at the Grammy but she has got probably the most nomination out of any female entertainer, and of course Meryl also has the most nom in Oscar.
Its moments like Helen winning that make you really like and appreciate the Academy Awards. Helen is such a talented actress, and for 62-doesnt she look damn Good.
I had tears in my eyes while watching this. Helen is a brillant actress and she really deserved the Oscar (should have won him much more earlier^^). She really is a queen!!!
Dame Helen Mirren deserved that award hands down. Everyone knew she was going to win since she had won every award that season. she is now one of my favorites..esp in the Queen.
Dame Helen has played a lot of queens. If I were to meet her in person, I would definitely refer to her as "Your Majesty" and not think twice! Excellent!!
Surprised she's not getting a standing ovation as this is like the most unanimous win in this category I've witnessed since I started following the Oscars race. She won literally everything on earth, perfect on both fronts: impersonation and embodiment. I never get the praise for any performance the way I do with this one to this day.
I love Americans so much. Not a single person stood up to give a standing ovation. I believe that’s is standing in solidarity concerning denouncing allegiance to any Monarchy.
Can I say after all these years Streep just transformed in that role and melt totally with that character! Probably one of my the most favorite characters for here!
I remember when I was twelve staying up till midnight to watch the movie Excalibur. I was totally blow away with the movie because it had knights in armor doing battle, wizards and dragons. Then came the scene with Helen Mirren as Morgana and I could care less about the knights, wizards and dragons. Such a beautiful woman now more then ever.
Does not get much better than this group of nominees. They are all Oscar winners now. I would have been happy with any of them winning, which never happens. I really wished Meryl had won though...she was amazing!
Helen Mirren is one of the best living actresses of our time. This is a woman who gives her best in every role. If she's in the movie, you know that it will be classed up by her presence. "The Queen" was a was a wonderful film just for of her performance. You have to watch every minute in order to really see all of the nuances she brought to the role. Whether the story was accurate or not, I'd be pretty please if I were the real queen. This actress made her human like no other could.
Meryl and Helen are two of the greatest actresses ever!!!!! "ladies and gentlemen I give you, the the Queens!" oh and I love Taylors face at the end!!!
Now all that 5 actress have an Oscar, crazy!
Even more crazy is that Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz won their oscar on the same night.
+Jolijn Attema exactly
Amazing field of talent!
2003 had the same thing

I agree. Helen was so right. Brilliant brilliant actresses.

Judi Dench's really happy.
ha ha
😂😂😂😂😂
She always has that bitch look on her face
Dame Judi was in the hospital at that time but she said she watched the ceremony and was happy for her fellow Dame winning her very first Oscar.
British class. Period.
Yeees aShe is AMAZING
oh yes darling lol
She's stunning.
Full stop. :)
Her acceptance speech were impeccable, she thanked the academy, mentioned her family, the fellow nominee, the filmakers, and she summarize her movie, just for 1:20 min.

Akash Vijay I share your opinion about Mrs. Brown ;) Helen Hunt gave a very nice performance in As Good As It Gets but Judi should have won that year.
Wholeheartedly agree with you.Dame Judi was fantastic in Notes, but it was Helen's year.
perhaps the greatest panel of nominees...
Agreed!
Helen Mirren: "Ladies and gentlemen! I give you... The Queen."
Epic.
Goosebumps
Here here!
Unfortunately, the Academy does not have the rights to show the film clips. We get permission from the studios to show the clips during the telecast but that does not include showing them on any of our online platforms. Sorry.
Oscars don't worry
Oscars Ah, that explains it all
That is perfectly understood
That explains a lot.
I never knew that. Thank you! We love the clips, all the same.
Gosh I can't believe how beautiful she is, and her smile! Stunning woman!
This was one of the very few years when any of these actresses could have deservedly win! Such powerhouses
This woman is the true definition of class, elegance and refined beauty. She looked radiant up on that stage with her shimmering dress on, I have to say she is truly something else.
Other worldly beauty. Breathtaking.
Pride of England 🏴
All of the Best Actress Nominees of 2006 have won at least 1 Oscar:
Helen Mirren: The Queen
Judi Dench: Shakespeare in Love
Meryl Streep: Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice, and The Iron Lady
Kate Winslet: The Reader
Penelope Cruz: Vicky Cristina Barcelona
the latter two have not yet won in 2006 though. However, they all deserve one since they are all exceptional!
Penelope cruz best supporting actress not leading actress, right ? correction me if im wrong
@@mohamadnurfakhrihartoyo9298 yes Penelope and Dame Judi both won Best Supporting Actress
How remarkable
Now that is how a poll of nominees should be set up, with pure talent! Such an amazing win for Helen Mirren, a class act amongst many. 😍😍😍😍😍.
Here after we lost Queen Elizabeth. We still have Dame Helen Mirren
At least Dame Helen Mirren honored Her Majesty the Queen after the latter's passing.
Amen
@@ajpat9620 yes
R.I.P Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

@@aligattor2639 Nope, and the combination is even worse!
that speech was so British
NO OVERACTING!!! NO DRAMA!!! THIS IS CLASS!! SHE is not like OTHERS!! SHE SHOULD BE PERFECT 'THE IRON LADY'!!!!
This Oscar was so well deserved! Helen Mirren was absolutely brilliant in "The Queen
"! She is amazing!
Penelope Cruz was so incredible in Volver
One my favorite films
So as Judi Dench in Notes On A Scandal ❤️
The talent in this years top 5 was inmense.
A very gracious lady who fitted the part of The Queen admirably. She certainly deserved her Oscar.
An extremely well deserved oscar!!!Bravo Helen!!!You're my queen :-)
really good and relaxed speech, I really loved that she won that prize, she was absolutely incredible in that role.
2:18 When she says "Ladies and gentlemen I give you the queen", I thought for sure Queen Elizabeth was coming out
Meryl always looks so genuinely happy when she loses.
Penélope Cruz is AWESOME in Volver.
An icon presenting an Oscar to another icon. GOD bless Philip's family right now
They ignored some truly fantastic performances that year - Sigourney Weaver in "Snow Cake", Laura Dern in "Inland Empire", Kim Basinger in "Even Money". Despite that I love Helen in "The Queen". She was amazing
There are only five slots available; they can't nominate every worthy performance.
@Kevin McKenzie Did you even see those films? or you're one of those losers who judge a book by its cover???
Meryl Streep is like the Kanye West of the acting world, she's always at the awards
More like Taylor Swift
+WeAreTheInsurgents Except Meryl Streep has talent :/
More like Beyoncé, who is always nominated when one of her albums are out. Beyoncé never won the biggest awards at the Grammy but she has got probably the most nomination out of any female entertainer, and of course Meryl also has the most nom in Oscar.
Oh shut the fuck up, du A-loch.
she does movies just for awards
oh god, those are the best 5 actresses in hollywood combined together!
Its moments like Helen winning that make you really like and appreciate the Academy Awards. Helen is such a talented actress, and for 62-doesnt she look damn Good.
Just being a nominee is an Oscar to me, to be recognized like that I would feel just as honored as if I had won
Yeah, Miss Helen Mirren for your acting role in "The Queen". : )
She is a great actress, classy beautiful lady Helen Mirren.
Helen Mirren had this coming for many years. She has a little resemblance of the real queen. You did superb in this film Helen and real nice work.
Beautiful Helen Mirren incredible accepting speech but also honoring "The Queen."
A speech delivered with pure class.
What a graceful, classy woman she is!
I couldn't ask for a better nomination list than this. All of them deserved it.
R.I.P Philip S. H. :(
The most important person in this video is Helen, this is not Philip's grave. Please stop R.I.P for him, do that in his videos.
I had tears in my eyes while watching this. Helen is a brillant actress and she really deserved the Oscar (should have won him much more earlier^^). She really is a queen!!!
Same here.
I think her(Helen Mirren),Judi Dench and Maggie Smith deserves more recognition in Hollywood
well they all have at least one Oscar among other Awards and Maggie has 2 Oscars
Excellent!!
Kate was just AMAZING playing Sarah.
Dos Por Uno Your talking about Little Children I read the book! However Kate Winslet did win for The Reader*****
Aimee Adesso Yes! I want to read it so bad!!! but y can't find it and yes Kate won in 2009 finaly :)
Contenido Neto yes she was, and so was Meryl Streep in the devil wears prada and Judi Dench in notes on a scandal. It was an exceptionally tough pick.
As amazing as in the reader I don't think so

Helen Mirren has great acting in The Queen.
The most delectably and eloquent Oscar speech. She said it like she memorized it from heart. Way to go girl!
Philip Seymour Hoffman ... You left too early, man !
I am glad that she won, she was incredible in The Queen.
I'm so proud of our British talent, well done Dame Helen Mirren

Haha I love how when they call Helen's name you can see Meryl Streep going all "I knew it!"
Can I say after all these years Streep just transformed in that role and melt totally with that character! Probably one of my the most favorite characters for here!
As much as I love Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet, this was such a deserved win!
Look at how happy Dame Judi Dench is for Dame Helen Mirren.
Helen Mirren is the perfection in person!!!!
What a line up! The best of the best right there! X
Just saw her in The 100 Foot Journey. Love her in everything! Including her dress, she's georgous.
I adore her diction of the English language, beautiful English !! 🌹🌹

There should have been a standing ovation for her!!
She was wonderful in the QUEEN🤩❤️🌹
She's wonderful! I don't think i could have chosen between her and Meryl Streep though. They're both just so good!
I don't understand how she can be such a gracious lady. She's magnificent. A 100% Dame! :-) And a fantastic actress!
FANTASTIC performances that year! HOLY COW!!!!!
Judi Dench won the Best Supporting Actress oscar for her portrayal of *Queen Elizabeth I* on Shakespeare In Love.
