I wish you made more videos like these now. With suggestions and mods. I understand they may have lesser viewership but they're such a help when we need them. I am thankful I found this video after 5 years!
Okay, so here's what I did and it took care of the weak servo saver spring. 1. Buy some M3-05 x 16mm "Socket Cap Screws" 2. Buy some M3-05 mm "Nylon Lock Nuts" 3. Buy some 0.117" OR 3mm Solder. Pull apart your assembly, replace the stock 12mm M3 screw with the 16mm screw, then screw on your nylon lock nut from underneath (the 16mm nylon lock nut is perfect and won't get in the way of the plastic post that the servo saver centers on.) Reassemble your XMAXX and go have fun. NOW if that doesn't work, cut a piece of the 0.117"/3mm solder you got, and make a small circle of it that fits perfectly within the base of the servo saver assembly, then reassemble your servo saver and go have fun!. The Solder pushes the spring up higher, so when it's compressed, it's under more tension and makes it harder for the servo saver to "Break free" when needed to protect your servo. That's what I had to do to mine, without the solder, it was still too weak to turn the wheels on carpet... If you grab the wheel and use your transmitter to turn the wheels, you'll see the servo saver break free and allow the servo to push through, which will still help protect the servo in the event that something happens. Though this may shorten the lifespan of the stock servo since it's just stock, or could possibly strip gears under a severe hit where it has to very abruptly and suddenly break free, but for a total of less than $20 USD, it's better than spending $100 right now on a new high torque servo, which I will do in the future.
Always looked at this guy as a over sponsered basher that just recklessly breaks RCs for fun, But this vid helped with my Xmaxx problems and a new found respect!!!
Great stuff Kev 🤗. Was looking for this vid 👀. I really should've done the longer steering post bolt mod sooner. Snapped that bugger my last run. Great to see this straightforward presentation . Much appreciated my friend. 🍻😎💪👊👊
When I first got this car the servo gears stripped on the first use. I think it could have been partly due to the servo saver, as it seemed to be stuck together. I swapped the gears to metal (still using the original servo) and then rebuilt the servo saver as Kev demonstrated but without the spacer. But the steering has always been springy since then. I’ve just now fitted a spacer to see if it helps and so far it seems to have made a big difference.
Awesome tips...my steering has gone soft on the X-maxx...now I know what to do, thanks so much...that is until someone comes up with an adjustable servo saver for this truck!
Mine is now doing the same thing. (On the ground in grass) it'll turn full right, but will not turn past 25% or so to the left. (If I pick the front wheels up off the ground) it will turn full left and right just fine. Ideas?
What’s the size and length of the screw and nut combo you use for the servo saver? I tried a few longer screws but they touched the top of the peg where it slides over. Are we to drill a hole in the top of that peg to allow for room of the longer screw and nut? Or am I simply using too long of a screw lol
What will the truck tend to do if the servo saver spring is loose? I recently upgraded to the 2085x and am now having some issues. Initially the wheels wouldn’t turn if the truck wasn’t on grass and at a stand still. Now, when moving the wheels don’t like to come back after I make a turn. For example, I will turn left, and the servo will not want to turn the wheels back to the right when I let go of the wheel. Could this be the servo saver spring? Or, does this sound like stripped gears?
Hello mate just bought an x max 8s but steering just twitches or turns to the right and its really slow to turn. Plus if I'm reversing it won't let me drive forward till it stops, so I can't stop it rolling backwards cheers 👍
Hey Kevin, Just the other night I launched my Xmaxx off a vertical skate park ramp probably a good 10 ft or higher and it slammed into the ground nose first and broke the black plastic piece off from the rollers that you first show in this video that the toe bars connect to. Any idea what that end piece is called that goes around the rollers or bearings whatever their called and how much difficulty this fix is gonna be? So I know what parts to order And also my truck just makes a high pitch whining sound like it’s slipping and will not engage anything. I’m told it could be the slipper gear and or spur. Thanks
i tihnk i just found my problem just took my x maxx back out after a rebuild for first time so learning the car and the sterring is wobble like the server saver is loose and at throtte when the wheels spin fast and need to held in place for not to wobble they did was driving me nuts im going to try this
Nice video! thanks for info! I'm having issue with steering when I give full right or left while going forward the wheels don't stay locked into the turn it keeps centering then full turn back and forth real fast you have an idea what it might be?
Its difficult to tell without seeing it but it sounds like a faulty servo, maybe have a look at that first. If steering is weak its usually the servo saver screw! Cheers
bigteedo111 I know that when I pick my RC up and give it throttle the tires will turn left and right with the TSM however they feel. but with it off itll stay straight. was purely an thought. sorry it didnt help
The dewalt driver I got from ebay, the tips are team c but they have stopped making them. Arrowmax make a set, as does hudy, they are called power tool tips Cheers, Kev
nice vid and seems simple. i just got an x maxx and figured i'd scan around enjoying it alot. surprisingly though ( or maybe not surprisingly ) i had my body with the anti pin set up actually rip through the holes in the body. i had to put some washers on each of the screws because after about 2/3 rolls the body was barley even hanging on. after putting on washers its fine now. but i feel like traxxas should have thought of that. for my steering im considering getting an aluminum assembly and just putting threatlock on it. figure that will increase integrity and the anodized look is always a plus.
I did exactly what you did but instead of a washer I put a piece of nylon from weedeater blind it evenly then put a spring on top of that what is the purpose of you just want to spring to be on the plastic
I want one of these trucks so bad! Right now I have a Slash 4x4. It really does take a beating! Check out some of my videos if you are considering buying one.
my old xmaxx is on 18/50, which is all of the vids on this channel bar 1 were I tried 18/46 My new maxx has 18/54, not as quick but kinder on the truck :)

i have done it directly after i saw your video...i found brass washers fitted perfectly...thank you ...well done
I see on more recent Xmaxx vids you did , that shows you put goo in steering servo post and then a long screw do a vid on that please
Love these old videos bro !!! Remember watching them when you 1st uploaded them !
Great tip. I was about to order the $70 hot racing servo saver but this saves me the money.
Kev sounds way younger lol.
Your videos were so much more chill back in the day.

Thanks for the tips man I'll have to check mine as I'm tearing it down here and checking everything awesome vid as always
Just did it. WOW! Now my steering is AWESOME! Thanks kev :) :)
Kevin thanks for the idea
I used a raceway outta an old xmaxx bearing and it's a perfect size to use as a washer
Man Kev you look so much younger 4 years ago! lol keep up the good work brother!
loved that video helped me out keep them coming love watching them
Awesome tips...my steering has gone soft on the X-maxx...now I know what to do, thanks so much...that is until someone comes up with an adjustable servo saver for this truck!
Excellent mod kev
Really great video ,
Love your videos!
I was the 1000th 👍😎🤣
Informative video kev!
I have full turn going to the right but not full turn going to the left, I will check that up once I get home from work, thanks for this video
GSHeverything _27 did u ever fixed that problem wit Xmaxx
it was probably just the end points were off

Vintage content, haha nice.
man you were young back then
Nice tip👍
My steering was so sloppy with a savox servo, once I took it apart I didn’t even have the screw to hold the spring in place.
Dumb question but how/where do i get the longer screw - is it anything in particular i need to get

2021 anyone?
Nice tutorial

So you broke the bellcrank?
Is this still an issue on the new X-Maxx Ultimate or with aluminum servo saver kits?
Dang 4 years ago

kevin where was you in this video lol?
Are thoes spare tools still wrapped in the background?
Hooooooo yeahhhhhh
My screw pulled right thruew the junk that holds the spring down.
Do you need to center the servo before reconnecting the steering linkage to make sure it's straight?
i tihnk i just found my problem just took my x maxx back out after a rebuild for first time so learning the car and the sterring is wobble like the server saver is loose and at throtte when the wheels spin fast and need to held in place for not to wobble they did was driving me nuts im going to try this
Is that screw still too small and has no nut on the other side in a 2020 8s Xmaxx?
I just ordered the new the Traxxas high-torque servo I noticed you're running in a different ESC so am I what voltage are you running your serve at
young young kevin talbot XD
Support 👍
Where can I find a longer screw? Traxxis part #?
Nice video! thanks for info! I'm having issue with steering when I give full right or left while going forward the wheels don't stay locked into the turn it keeps centering then full turn back and forth real fast you have an idea what it might be?

bigteedo111 That could also be that your TSM is set to 100%?
ok thankyou!
TSM turned down but thanks for your help!
bigteedo111 I know that when I pick my RC up and give it throttle the tires will turn left and right with the TSM however they feel. but with it off itll stay straight. was purely an thought. sorry it didnt help
What kind of esc is that? I notice it's not stock.
hi kevin... 😁
@Kevin Talbot does the aluminum servo saver give you a fix for this?
Riddle me this.? How is it when my wheels are straight the right front tire is angled slightly to the right?
Sir r u suppose to move the servo saver I can’t move mine when tightened down with spring
When taking out the screws do you have a special technique to make sure the correct screw goes in the correct place?
i put them with the part it came off
Where did you buy your tool
The dewalt driver I got from ebay, the tips are team c but they have stopped making them. Arrowmax make a set, as does hudy, they are called power tool tips
Cheers, Kev

Hahah 10:31 - energy a bit different nowadays
is the screw its self m3? any idea what length or how much longer it needs to be
What is the song that plays in the beginning?
I did exactly what you did but instead of a washer I put a piece of nylon from weedeater blind it evenly then put a spring on top of that what is the purpose of you just want to spring to be on the plastic
My car goes forward and backwards but my remote is not reading the left and right what do I do
is this also needed by the x-maxx 8s ??? i quess in the vid was the 6s. let me know someone plz in 2019.
its a Life Style his is upgraded to a 8s just don’t have the motor fan so Idk
Kevin why is my steering wiggle back and forth?
I want one of these trucks so bad! Right now I have a Slash 4x4. It really does take a beating! Check out some of my videos if you are considering buying one.
Didn't put some threadlock on the nut
HL it's a nylock don't need it
Have you had any problems with the Traxxas 6700 mph batteries
he doesn't use traxxas battery packs, he uses floureons in his x maxx
💪🏻😎
which gearing do you run on your x maxx on 6s?
18/50? 18/54?
my old xmaxx is on 18/50, which is all of the vids on this channel bar 1 were I tried 18/46 My new maxx has 18/54, not as quick but kinder on the truck :)
Who watched this at 2022 👀
I Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
Hi Kevin
Do you recommend aluminium parts?
max 6 I meant
what drill do you use?
a carbide dremel bit. 3.2mm
lol click on thumbs down twice. i hope that fooled some people
Need help my serve keeps burning up or seizing up what's happening???
Holy over exposed
"Click Thumbs Down twice"...hehe ;D
Off-road economy come on man he’s got a pretty good vid
