Taemin , the best.
Taemin with open back shirts is kind of his signature thing. If you have ever noticed, almost all of Taemin's stage outfits have a slit cut in the back of it or the back is open. SHINee is known for wearing tight form-fitting outfits and it has become their signature look, but because Taemin is such an expressive dancer he often will rip his shirts, suit jackets and pants when dancing. That is why over the years, Taemin's stylists have started creating hidden spaces in his clothing that allow him to move and stretch without restricting him. If you start to pay attention you will begin to notice how most of his stage outfits have been altered to allow him to move more easily. However, that still doesn't always prevent him from ripping his clothes while dancing. All the members of SHINee have ripped their pants and shirts in concert multiple times before, and it's become a common enough occurrence that their stylists now have multiple pairs of the same pants and shirts ready to go backstage for all of their outfits. It's not that uncommon for Kpop idols to rip their clothes while dancing, and if you look you will find tons of clips that point out where Idols have ripped their pants or shirts in the middle of a concert and they have to finish the performance with their pants split, etc.
Yep, Taemin is famous for his duality. The funny thing is, as you are starting to realize, although he is ultra confident when on stage, when not performing his personality is the complete opposite. That's what makes him even more lovable and why he is so popular.
When on stage, Taemin can turn his sexy, sensual side up to 3,000 and he becomes the most powerful and magnificent performer that commands the stage. But the minute he step off the stage he becomes quiet and shy and he blushes when people compliment him for his looks or performance.
When on stage he can take his shirt off and act like he is the coolest person in the world, but the minute he steps off stage he flips a switch and reverts back to his cute innocent self who is super embarrassed, shy and tries to avoid the cameras. He is great at flirting with the camera and the audience and he knows how to seduce someone when he is on stage, but if you have ever seen him try to flirt with anyone on variety shows when he is not performing, he becomes super awkward and cringy and unbelievably uncomfortable. LOL
When not on stage, Taemin is known for being sort of innocent and kind of naive and a little ditsy, as only the maknae (youngest member) of a group can get away with -- he is 2 to 4 years younger than the rest of the SHINee members and, as you know, he likes to play up being the baby when he is around them, and they pretty much will do anything he asks. He knows how to be cute when he wants something, but he hates it when someone asks him to be cute. LOL.
Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have every heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like.
Taemin's choreography is very much influenced by him. Although he has input in almost everything he does, he has choreographers that come up with the choreography for most of his dances and he then infuses it with his own ideas and style and makes it uniquely his. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. If you watch Taemin dance more, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always have that Taemin feel. That is why he is considered the best dancer in the entire Kpop industry. And that's not just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the industry as a whole.
Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. Over the years he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him.
When Taemin debuted in 2008 as part of SHINee he was only 14 years old and, yet, he was already known as one of the best dancers in the industry, and he has only gotten more magnificent over the years.
And, as the youngest member of SHINee, Taemin's talents are one reason why SHINee are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. With 13 years since SHINee's debut, they still command one of the top spots.
As you saw, Taemin is a phenomenal dancer, but if you notice, the other members are pretty good at keeping up with him, so that also says a lot about SHINee as a group. And on top of that, notice that he and SHINee are singing live and maintaining stable vocals the whole time, no matter how intense the choreography is. I think that's what really makes it so impressive. It's one thing to dance that well, but it's another thing entirely to be able to sing that well AND performing the way they do.
Now after 13 years Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles -- he is only 27 -- and, yet, he often has the most seniority and experience. He is so well respected that everyone looks up to him.
