      What a crying 😭 shame. All of that beauty and elegance destroyed by the vanity and blasphemy of the people who owned TITANIC. K. Bruce Ismay is reported to have told his son the following. "My boy,'" Ismay quipped, "God Himself couldn't sink this ship."

    Very well done. Not all the pictures presented were of the Titanic, or the Olympic, but they represented what some areas would look like at the time.

    Some words from a Titanic rivet counter:
    Titanic did not have telephones in her cabins. There were telephones on board, but only for crew. Most notably were those connecting the crow's nest to the bridge.
    Servants, maids, governesses, manservants, etc. didn't typically stay with their employers in the same cabin or suite. They would have been put in their own cabins. If the servant was needed quite a lot, they would have a cabin near their employer's, but usually not one of the same quality. Sometimes they were placed on lower decks, but still in first class. If a servant was not readily needed but still needed to travel with their employer, they were put in second class.
    Titanic had two parlour suites on C deck and two promenade suites on B deck. The parlour suites had a bedroom and a sitting room, but still had to share a bath and toilet. The promenade suites had a private promenade, two bedrooms, a private bath and toilet, walk-in wardrobes, and a sitting room. As expensive as they were, they offered unparalleled privacy on a rather busy and crowded ship. The promenade suite shown in the 1997 film, B 52, 54, and 56, was occupied by J. Bruce Ismay. Again, these suites did not have a servant's room.
    The flowers were there for a hidden reason. Titanic was so new that by April 10, she had only just finished being painted and was still incomplete in certain areas. The flowers were placed aboard in vast amounts, more than usual, to mask the smell of fresh paint as ventilation wasn't as good on ships then as it is today.
    Titanic didn't have a dedicated tearoom, but all of her seating areas did offer tea. She had the a la carte restaurant and Cafe Parisien (same kitchen and menu as stated), the first class dining saloon, the reception room, the lounge, and the verandah cafes (one smoking and the other non smoking). The latter three offered light refreshments only, including tea.
    Technically speaking, a woman *could* use the smoking room just as a man *could* use the reading and writing room, but both spaces were seen as gender-specific and you'd probably never see that rule broken. Fun fact, the reading and writing room was extremely unpopular, and when Olympic was refit sometime after the Titanic disaster, her reading and writing room was drastically cut down in size. Modern women didn't like the aspect of being segregated.
    The orchestra had 8 members, all berthed in second class. They would frequently split up, with one group in first class and the other in second. While there were pianists among them, the piano was only played when they were doing a concert in a room that had one (and providing the songs they played required one). They moved around quite a bit, so it wasn't always the same group in a particular class.
    No, both Titanic and Olympic had a Turkish bath. While there is one photograph of Titanic's Turkish bath, this video doesn't show it, using Olympic's, instead.
    Pronunciation nitpicks: It's saloon, not salon. Bugel is pronounced byoo-gul.
    As fabulous and luxurious as Titanic was, she really wasn't too far ahead of first class spaces on other large ships of the time, and she was only marginally better than her older sister, Olympic, which did everything Titanic did, but first. Titanic is romanticised now as the ship of dreams, but when she first set sail on April 10, 1912, she was just seen as another Olympic. The second of three planned running mates. Had she survived, she would have been swiftly outclassed in 1913 by the German superliner SS Imperator. If she survived the war, she would have been seen as an aging relic even by the 1920s like Olympic was and probably would have been scrapped around 1935 just like Olympic and their competitor, Mauretania (which was the state of the art when she was launched in 1906).
    Funnily enough, where the Olympic class truly shined was in third class. Third class on Titanic was an absolute luxury compared to other liners. The spaces were clean, ventilated, had electricity and running water. They were waited on during meals and had cabin stewards to assist them with getting around. Plus, Titanic did not offer steerage, only private cabins, which made the ship safer and much more comfortable. Third class on Titanic has a bad reputation thanks to misinformation. A lot of people believe the outdated movies and documentaries that say third class passengers were locked below with gates. This isn't true, but it's what some people choose to believe. One of the biggest reasons why more third class perished was simply due to their location within the ship. It wasn't easy to get from the outdoor third class spaces to the boat deck, and they didn't know how to navigate the ship in unfamiliar areas.

    • @SaraRoseVaughan
      @SaraRoseVaughan 2 года назад +1

      @@Truecrimeresearcher224 True. To aid with this, ships of the era employed translators and cabin stewards to help people around. Not sure how many there were or how useful they were on Titanic, but still.

    Instead of a swimming pool, there could have been more lifeboats. And there could have been a safety drill for All the classes. But it was cancelled on the morning on the 14th of April. Sure it's a shame that all the luxuries are at the bottom of the Atlantic. However what good are luxuries when there weren't enough safety features to save more lives. Two fun facts;
    One: The architect Thomas Andrews wanted to have more lifeboats, but was vetoed by the company on the reason that the lifeboats would block the view.
    Two:. One woman in first class slept during the day and stayed awake because she had a premonition that the Titanic would sink.
