I insist on Adam Savage's Maker Academy. Here comes a time in which being able to fix/make/produce things will be immensely valuable. We can bring that knowledge to people.
Compact 5 is a collectable these days. I've used one, it's a nice tool, but no longer in production. The Sherline is made in San Marcos, CA. At one point, they were sold by Craftsman, and I was lucky to find a fully tooled Lathe and separate Mill in 1985 for $ 500. It has been a wonderful tool all this time. What I like about it is that it's compact, easy to use, easy to learn, lots of accessories there are many tutorials - but the very best feature is that you can pick up the phone and talk to them. You will not regret purchasing one.
The video essay Adam is referring to when he talks about Anthony Hopkins and his acting is this Nerdwriter episode : ruclips.net/video/4kSGkGKwp9U/видео.html
Voyager is the best star trek series you can't change my mind. The strong female characters in that show are so incredible. You have to find an enjoyment in the outdated special effects same with Buffy or any other 90s show.
I'm amazed you three haven't watched MR Robot. It is hands down one of the finest shows in a really long time. I'd love to hear your reactions to the show.
I own His Girl Friday. It is a great 1940 film. It is interesting how they talk about what is going on with Hitler prior to the United States getting involved in the war. It is also interesting how fast they are talking in His Girl Friday.
The best pizza dough by far is Bobby Flay’s with bread flour! Lightly dust cast iron pan with corn meal, add dough, top and cook in oven around 400-450.
If I remember correctly, Star Trek Voyager live action was filmed on 35mm film. So in theory, they could update it like TNG, but would probably be more work because of the early CGI they'd have to replace.
Yeah, I believe all the raw footage was in 35mm, but everything was edited directly to video, so you'd have to go back and redo absolutely everything (except the filming) completely from scratch which sounds like a herculean effort both in manpower and budget.
@@DavidOstman And I believe they did that for the TNG bluray, re-composited all the shots, but the CGI would have to be redone. I think only a small handful of TNG shots had to be CGI'd.
How is it better that in our future streaming experience it's up to the TV to decode the subtitles... if the TV isn't able to do it for some reason? It seemed to just work on DVDs.
Just bought a Proxxon hot wire cutter for diorama/model making and it is AMAZING for foam. Used it for the first time last night and it cuts paper-thin slices. Proxxon is legit.
Proxxon makes some fantastic lathes as well. The PD400 is not small either -- probably the best I've used out of the box, even compared to the old EMCO compacts
Nice that Will moved back from the mic, but it sounds like he's already damaged the capsule on it. Somebody send the man a new mic (pref. a large diaphragm dynamic like the podmic/sm7b/ga d2/etc) ~your friendly neighborhood audio engineer
Hey Will - what kind of flour do you use for pizza? We use bread flour and bake it on a proper baking stone...gives brilliant results. I recommend the NY style recipe from America’s Test Kitchen...restaurant quality at home, no joke.
The thing I liked about the Western setting of Westworld was simply that it was a series of tropes to play within, using modern video game sensibilities. If anything it ran out of steam by the end of season 1, so it evolving into other settings subsequently was perfectly timed.
I was surprised that while talking about "Walk, Don't Run" that you didn't mention the premake " The More The Merrier" - 1943, Joel McCrea, Jean Arthur and Charles Coburn, set in Washington, DC during the wartime housing crunch. I believe "Walk, Don't Run" is the only occasion where Cary Grant played a role originated by Charles Coburn! And I agree with Norm on the merits of His Girl Friday.

The EMCO lathes are amazing but they are also 2000$ or more if they have the mill head. If you need small and accurate they are worth the money. But for most starters at home the price will be a bit hard to crack.

Hi there, quite a while ago you were talking about maybe reading and discussing the Book series „Kingkiller Chronicles“ on the Still Untitled podcast. I would love to hear all your thought about those books. Also with the current Situation you should have some time and its a great Book to forget the World for a while. :) Since you'll probably not read every comment I decided to go for Cato the Elders Tactic (who ended all his speeches with „Ceterum censeo or Ceterum autem censeo Carthaginem esse delendam“ (English: "Furthermore, I consider that Carthage must be destroyed")) and adding „Furthermore, I consider you all should read the Kingkiller Chronicles and Discuss it on the Podcast“ to every post from now on. In the small lathes etc. If you do some tuning the cheapies from Harbor Freight and Grizzly are pretty good for the money but www.precisionmatthews.com/ sells essentially the what started as one of those with extensive upgrades. Now the stick it on a desk and then move it to a shelf etc. is not a good idea for either. First anything that light is going to very limiting and probably only work on aluminum free cutting bras and plastic. And you are never going to get precision if it's not bolted down and trued. I'm a hobby/ prop /theatre and such machinist so high precision is rarely much of an issue but unless you are only going to like little model making stuff in soft materials the minimum weight for a lathe or a mill is going to be a couple of hundred pounds. Anything much under is going to flex all over the place except on VERY soft work. Too much over that and it gets to be a problem sticking it in a space that doesn't have a forklift...
Anyone else notice that Norm doesn't get much airtime? Not a fan of Will, he seems to be the solo offender, not letting Norm have a discussion with Adam...or just talking over Norm. Not cool, seems like he needs to learn to listen, not just talk.
