Thanks for all the great videos and stories Kevin! I am good friends with Kent and love seeing his days with Mac before I knew him. Also, makes me laugh as I too have a funny Mac story. I cannot imagine spending the kind of time with him you did. Again, I greatly appreciate the sharing.

The stories of Mac would make great documentary movie. We tried to make it but Covid sidelined the project.

Great caddy stories! Very interesting. “Two days of torture … doing this for free!” Lol. I’m sure you were the reason Mac did not make the cut! Glad you had a better experience the following year (even reading a putt for Mac!). Thanks so much for honestly sharing. 👊👊

Another nice video. These three scenarios are great explanation why Hogan, Snead and the very Mac liked the diagonal (closed) stance; IMO, easier for one's body than parallel stance + huge hip backswing. Moreover, it explains why Hogan could promote rear hip governor = his rear foot and leg joints' positions.

I have a Mac story. At the LA Open sometime in the early 1990's he was paired with Russ Cochran a lefty I liked to watch because I am a lefty. The group had an early start. But on the back on hole 15 or so, I was getting hot wearing long pants. I had shorts underneath. I was around 80 YARDS from the green taking off my pants without knowing Mac was lining up his putt while I was moving in his line of sight. He proceeded to yell at me to hold still. Keep in mind HE WAS JUST BEHIND HIS BALL PLUMB BOBBING his putt and not making a stroke. ...... I new he was odd from the stories I heard. His sensitivity to me so far away, was just "par" for the course. So I didn't let that get me down. I knew he would be the only one to do such a thing.
I really do think Mac would have won more money and tournaments if he wasn't so sensitive and easily angered by petty outside things that only he would call distractions. To me, a long time Yoga practitioner, that is not very ZEN like at all.

Yes. He often didn’t practice what he preached. Unfortunately.

When he says weight left on "lofted" clubs. Is just irons or is he also talking about 3,5 wood as well?

Short irons left. Head more behind the ball with woods and driver.

You aren’t the only caddie to have this experience w/Mac. 😂 local club pro I know (who’s dad was also a club pro) caddied for him in a local qualifier back in 2007 I think. First hole, caddie is standing there in the fairway, with the bag, about 10’ away from Mac. Mac hits a mediocre approach shot, immediately looks at the caddie and says “you moved!” Rest of the round didn’t get better, and he almost came to blows on the 3rd hole when he tried to intimidate a competitor into taking a more unfavorable drop (arguing point of entry to a lateral hazard). Mac was alone in his opinion on point of entry, and Mac ends up hitting a few fairway flyers in this round, and shooting a poor score (74 I think). This was back when he was experimenting with a huge lateral move and steep impact. I know his caddie, couldn’t ask for a calmer, pro’s pro to carry your bag.

Yeah, Mac was just angry when he competed. Something about killer instinct he thought was so important. I think it was because he thought Seve was like that.

There is a story of why David Leadbetter started teaching M.O.R.A.D. theory. It should have been Mac and Faldo.

Mac did work briefly with Faldo, didn’t like him. Faldo described the P system and Leadbetter used it as the link system. Ironically Faldo did not use the link system, but he did use Mac’s pre set drill. But never credited Mac.

now I understand why he was not champion material. Lack of strong nerves and a narcissist tendency ….

Mac was twice a champion on the PGA Tour. In fact he won the Tournament of Champions! That’s not bad.
In my opinion, he would have won more if he was a better putter and more patient on the course.
