My favourite version of Orange Blossom Special has always been by 9 Year Old Fiddler - Mikayla Roach - until now. Leahy's version has blown me away. Not just because of his playing, and he is fantastic. The whole band are just tremendous!
These are truly amazing people! i know them personally and take lessons from them and they are the funnest, most down to earth and hardworking people you will ever meet!
I play this tune on a regular basis with my band, and I took a couple of Donnell's licks and they work really well when placed strategically with in the tune. The only thing I don't do anymore is play it @ 100 mph.
AWESOME! I just learned this song on fiddle and it's insane!!! haha... making it *your own * is a challenge too! with so many wonderful fiddlers out there! -Beth
I consider myself a pretty good fiddler, and I can easily play OBS, (not this version though) I saw them live, someone beside me said "not bad, could be better" I nearly hit him in the face. This guy is a GOD, I still don't know how he plucks "Devils Dream" WITHOUT his bow hand and at an insane speed at that. With the bow is easy but without? All I can say is WOW.
@obbm2232 One, nothing's perfect. Two, they aren't trying to make it better. They're making it their own. They add in different things because they want to play them, not because they want to make the piece better. They didn't improvise it to death. They made it original.
WOW!!!! Merci!!!
Every time I've heard this, I'm reminded of the many videos on here of the Union Pacific's Big Steamers putting the hammer down. Maybe it's because this is a song about a train. Here's a couple (damned comments won't let me post the full URLs): /watch?v=DoeP8Prbxz4&feature=endscreen&NR=1 /watch?NR=1&v=nP1_4ymsIig&feature=endscreen
Eddie Stubbs didn't impress me as much as Donnell Leahy did. Yeah, he was a bit faster, but Donnell didn't have to rest through the middle of the song, and he also made it look easier than Stubbs did. This version is more fun, in my opinion.
They are definitely very virtuoso. BUT-BUT-BUT why any musician thinks he or she can improve on perfection is beyond me. They improvise it to death. Irwin T. Rouse wrote this song as perfection. No one should try to improve it. Wynton Marsalis and many lesser musicians do the same thing to "Carnival of Venice". It is perfect as written, why try to showcase your talent by ruining a masterpiece.
This is slooooowww compared to Eddie Stubbs' fiddle work on /watch?v=0ewQB3z1wKU. Only at 3:47 does this rendition pick up the tempo to where they should have started at.
It is now 2020 and I am 62 from down home I love the Sister Brother ..here we go
i can not believe how insanely fast he goes and accuately. i bet he is one of the best fiddlers ever
yup and smiling at the same time.
My God All Those Lahey Sisters Are Soooooooooo Beautiful.......XOXOXOXOXOX!
Awesome, and such a great job on a classic country music tune. I have to see these folks in person some day. They are amazing!
Saw them in 1987 when I was stationed in NY. They were incredible then, and still are.

I'm a Leahy - and I love this song :)

Mighty fine. Bought their dvd the first time I heard them.
I saw him play this live, fatest Orange Blossom Special I've ever heard
No one better...period!
Best version ever!

They are so much fun!
Amazing Playing.. Love it!
SUPER

Wow!
that's what you get when you mix speed and finest
bang on ....
They are the Dragonforce of Trad music!
@obbm2232
It's called interpretation. It's called "having fun". All musicians understand that. That's why they play.
I consider myself a pretty good fiddler, and I can easily play OBS, (not this version though)

She sure tickle those ivory tho plus should’ve had someone dancing to this tune

Wow...better even than Doug Kershaw's version. 10's across the board, even from the East German judge!
Would love to see and hear Natalie play this, I'm sure she'd "rip it up".
Go Donnell!
Why this song is called sometimes reel du train?
It'd be funny to make dancers dance to this.
Watch call to dance by Leahy.

@nosecone5921 To protect the other musicians from losing their hearing!
Without doubt he is very good, but why should all set a record in how fast the spectacular song is played, instead of getting it to sound good.
Mogens Jørgensen because it’s fun
Reel du train : french traduction :D
mark o'conner...is the best

it's to protect him from the throwing of empty bottles.
Le copiaron a sierra noble!!!
rodrigo herrera comparison - he's a much more accomplished fiddler of multiple genres. Sorry
he's an extraordinary fiddler. honestly, I think he played it a little too pretty. It's meant to be gritty, but that's just my 2 cents.

do you even fiddle?

because the loud drumming sometimes annoys the other musicans
very good but not by far the best
Natalie mcmaster and family
thank you.excellent.really enjoyed.(reads like an ebay feedback)HAAAAAHAAAAA*
frobsey I liked it. His version is his version. Their is no such thing as "the best version."
