If you take a close look, no matter where the opposite player is, they can be literally open right in front lf him, he stays COMPLETELY still and does not give a single hint to whoever is trying to score, which not only affects the opposite player but also allows him to go exactly where he needs to go. That and the combo of his elasticity and reflexes
In his time in the Bundesliga for Bielefeld he was more prominently known for his insane openers. He had so many assists or 2nd to last passes it's insane.
He has good game iq he knows what the player have to shoot a certain way to score. He keeps his foot work tight and his 1v1 is calm secured and not panic. You have to have a lot of self belief you can make the save and trust your intuition. He still has mindfulness when pressure comes and knows the player has a window to shot or he fails to score.
Considering all the other keepers are the number one at theyr team, yeah. Neuer & Ter Stegen are World class, Baumann was probably the best Bundesliga keeper this season, and Nübel is the long term future for the National Team after Ter Stegen, they obviously have more reasons to be called up than a guy who made 8 apperances. But if he would have been called up, nobody could have critizised it. He deserves to be the 1st keeper at a european top/international club

A good attacking coach will prepare players before the game - go round him, instead of shooting from close to him. Difficult in a match situation of course, but that would definitely be my mental preparation to players before playing City. Old school R9 style rounding the keeper (check out the "3 Minutes Of Ronaldo Humiliating Goalkeepers..." video on RUclips). Get players studying that.

No.1 key is he does not commit, he does not come all in and make it easy for the forwards, he just steps forwards little bit narrowing the angle, low down and make himself big when the ball is shot, 80% he will block the ball. He's posturing himself that the forward has to really beat him with a very, very good finish, which is not easy

Seems to have good reactions from close in, and his spread covers a lot of the areas where strikers aim for. I’d say he’s kinda like Neuer or Ter stegen. They are very “late” to spread out when saving and are really good at 1v1s. Another person who is sorta similar is emi Martinez. Ofc I’m talking about that World Cup save in the final seconds. Waiting and waiting and spreading their body out properly. If you somehow mimic what he does you’d probably save a lot of 1v1s. Getting your legs to save is definitely a great skill to have. Also I’m not a goalkeeper, but I’m hoping professional goal keepers wear jockstraps. I could not imagine facing the type of shots they do and then one day a player scuffs a shot but with a lot of power and it just whips right into your crotch.
