I loved climbing and then jumping out of trees growing up. Fell a few times. Laughed. Climbed again. It's about resilience. Learning your boundaries. Consequences. Developing character. It's also great fun.
I grew up climbing trees, too. That is pretty normal in Germany,. The only educational message by my mother was: "If you fall, I'll spank you as a bonus". And she laughed. Of course it was a joke. She never did. I miss her.
These days my kids are constantly searching for trees and remitly interesting things to do. People cut down trees, fence them in and make playgrounds way too safe. Boring.
Danish mom abroad here. Picking my 4 year old up after her first day at pre-school, she was covered in mud and her teacher was acting all apologetic and guilty "I'm sorry, she saw a puddle of mud and before I could stop her she jumped right in, and fell, and rolled over, and I'm so sorry." My only reaction was to look at my kid and ask "did you have fun?" "YES!" Me looking at the teacher "and that's why she has an extra set of clothes in her backpack, and plastic bag for the dirty. Kids are suposed to get dirty everyday." Apparently that's not the prevailing view here 😂
A knive is not a weapen but a gun is!!!! A knife you can use to cut or to open something or to make a weapon . A gun only can be used to inflikt wounds and pain. So there is a bic difference. really you should not compare them. How can you use a gun for something else?
Born in Denmark, in 1981 - this was just childhood. Now, as an adult, I love nature, grow my own food and spend a lot of time outdoors. Oh, and my son, born in 04 has been in skovbørnehave and loved it.
One of the things I see a lot of people out there in the world get all wrong and confused about is respect, discipline, getting kids to listen and understand. Respect is NOT about creating fear in people and hoping for obedience through "do as I say, because I'm the adult!". You gotta meet people where THEY are, rather than where YOU want them to be. Meet the kids at their height, both mentally and physically, as it creates a much better foundation for understanding, for listening, for learning, for getting things done with the help of the kids etc. The same goes for adults, conversations and communication in general - meet people where they are in their life, not where you want them to be. Meet them as who they are, not who you want them to be. Only THEN we can move mountains together!
Fun fact, even though it's colder up north in terms of temperature it doesn't feel as cold as if the humidity is near 100 and its windy, like 362 days a year in Denmark. I've seen several reactions to this video, and you're good at reflecting which makes this video good! Keep up the good work!
Growing up in Jamaica climbing trees were just part of growing up, it was great knowing when and where all the fruit trees were in season. A lot of these exotic fruits that first world countries value so much were just somewhere in the woods and all we had to do was find them
"Op igen" was the motto of any Dane's childhood. Builds resilience. But it seems you get it. I have lived in Greenland- a place that makes Finland look warm and lush, and I prefer -30 and sun to +3 and rain. +44 is a bit uncomfortable.
This is the norm also in Scandinavia and the Nordic countries in general. I grew up similar to this in the 90's and 2000's here in Norway. We are an outdoorsy culture being a farming and fishing nation. Also because it's in general more safe here. Kids can play outside alone for hours: front or bakcyard, street, drive way, park, forest etc, and no one would care, or walk back and forth to school on their own, and alone. How most of us grew up, and still do to any foreigner's shock and horror LOL. Not only is it healthy, but helps with independence, and gaining experience.
Such ideas also provide a great balance between time spent outdoors and time spent at the computer. In addition, they strengthen the body's resistance to diseases.
Regarding guns and tools. While I do agree, I don't agree. For example, Norway is 17th in the world in guns per citizen (almost 30 per 100 citizen), so we do have a fair share of guns. But, unlike the US (120 per 100 citizen btw) guns in Norway are actual tools. They are bought by hunters and sports shooters, and the types of weapons and caliber reflects that use. Hunting weapons, rifles and shotguns, are designed with that in mind, and has many limitations on loading mechanisms, magazine size, etc, while sports shooting weapons are basically small caliber weapons. Weapons bought for fun and self defense are not considered tools, they are weapons.
Yes this exactly. If guns are tools people don't mind restrictions to keep everyone safe. people have all sorts of tool knives but there are restrictions for machetes, swords, switch blades etc.
Depends on how you look at it, ofcause it can be used as a weapon but also a tool to provide food or protection, it all comes down to how you use it.. A knife and a hammer is a weapon to if you use it like one
I had a .22 rifle long time ago for competition. Of course it - technical - was a weapon, but I never thought that as a weapon. If I were interested in weapons, I had most likely not bought a caliber .22.
Not sure whether it would work everywhere, but in smaller cities and cities close to forests in Denmark it surely does. As the teacher mentioned, the Danish way of life adds something that makes it work better. I don't think all kindergartens need to be like this, but spending a day out in the nature in all weathers should be done at least a few times per month.
7:22 Actually in Denmark and many other countries they do define what a "weapon" is which is that it's primairily designed to injure or kill another person. This can lead to some strange situation like a meat cutting knife and a stabbing knife of the same length can be classified differently.
That was awesome! They said Australia has opened one. I wonder where? We don't even have many male kindergarten teachers because parents don't trust men with their young kids.
i Grew up like this pretty much, and did most of these things like climbing trees and making spears with knifes. And I don't really think much of it as it just seems normal to me, but I can see how playing with knifes at 4-5 years old could be a bit weird from an outsiders point of view. I think you learn a lot from it though and even hurting yourself but getting back to it. I once cut myself pretty deep with a knife but that happens and it healed up nice and then i got back to making spears as soon as it healed.
When you do start popping out them caramels, you know where you'll be sending them - you have them in Finland too, just with a bit more snow. We can only hope that common sense allows them to become more prevalent elsewhere in the meantime. Love you flexing with the cold weather lol not everyone "gets used to it".
the moist in the air is whats make denmark cold, it just the heat rigth out of you. when we have freeze and no moist, we are good, shorts and t-shirts lol no i dont think so : ))
Some years ago I think a Danish couple in the US became sent to jail for leaving their child in a stroller outside a restaurant!!! It is very normal in Denmark to leave children outside to sleep, by themselves!
Yes, anything can be used as a weapon. The thing is, guns are specifically designed to kill efficiently. An old knife can be used as a screwdriver... but a screwdriver will do the job better because that's what it was designed to do.
I think it creaes a good balance, and since the scandinavian countries are pretty serving towards families they can manage things like this. Now I don't have a cookie monster of my own either but I'd think if they were outside from dark to dark time it's allright to give them like age apporpiate screen times (if necessary). So to learn both, a socitiey where nature is a hit again just in case bc the world is going ways but simutnatouley know the technolgoy of their decade and century.
@@risputte Because it has to be reported and put down by a special hunter that is connected to the police. Love this reaction. Just 1 thing. To me a tool helps you build something. You said guns are tools. What does a gun help you build. All it does is kill something, animal or human Just a thought.
Sure anything can be a weapon. But thousands of people don’t die from phones each year. And sure a gun is a tool, but it’s a tool for hunting or competitive shooting. And it’s a tool for law enforcement and the military. Pretty much no one else needs that tool. People certainly don’t need a full automatic large capacity tool.

I don’t get the guns and knives are the same. A gun is never helpful in creating or mending something.
Hunting.
@@issyd2366 Aye, which is what weapons were primarily used for back in the stone age, so guns being a weapon only still tracks
