Can we just take a moment to clarify that Staley getting fired in no way equates to taking food off his table? The guy is literally walking away a millionaire. The same as most any other NFL head coach. Let’s not kid ourselves. Just like Cliff Kingsbury, Josh McDaniels, Gruden, and co., this guy is set for LIFE. There’s literally no need to feel sorry for him. None whatsoever. Sure, he’ll probably never coach a team again in that capacity, but he’ll never need to. Let’s stop trying to equate his experience to the average worker, most of whom really will not have food on the table for losing THEIR jobs. It’s not all that uncommon to be fired for performance reasons. In fact, it happens all the time. The cold hard truth is no matter what qualifications Staley had or believed he had, he was not a good fit for the Chargers. And even after a couple seasons to settle in he was still not performing up to expectations despite the talent he had to work with. There’s little reason to sympathize here. How many times do we get told this is a performance based profession? And yet now when he is finally held to account for his cumulative results during his 2+ year tenure we’re supposed to empathize with him? Especially after witnessing his players quit on him on the field? C’mon man.
I love the Chargers. They bring me back down to earth when I’m feeling good.

I'm not a Chargers fan, but seriously, they could've hired me as head coach, and I could perform just as poorly for around $250,000 per year. At least that would saved them some money on the balance sheet.

Chargers looked like a college team ...... playing against NFL athletes. The Raiders were laughing throughout the game. Derius Davis, the Chargers return man, was picked up, stripped of the ball, and thrown to the ground like a schoolboy getting whipped by his mom.
That was an absolute travesty. When I saw that I knew the Chargers were done. I went to bed. Then I woke up early to see that the Raiders had some how completely demolished them. I was like WTFH 🤨
I think Staley is a good dude, but losing to the raiders by 60+ points is the kinda loss that lose’s hardcore fans.

Look like the team really gave up when they played the Broncos. A game that if they won, they would be in the hunt for the playoffs.

A team that has experienced six winning seasons the last ten years and has won 2 playoff games in that time period. You have teams out there that haven't won a playoff game in two decades yet the Chargers are the worst thing ever. OK.
To be fair most of the points were scored off turnovers but the Raiders did execute.
A little context: the backup was making his first start and turned the ball over 3 times, twice for touchdowns by the raiders defense
More context: the backup has been with the team for 5 years, and should be prepared. And even more: other rookie backups are winning games. And more: staley can't coach his way out of a paper bag, and has consistently shown that for 3 seasons.

Who tipped off all the media of this firing before it happened. McCafee, Rome, Herd all had these dramatic takes about Staley and Chargers and the news broke during all their openings. If a head coach does get fired during the season does it always happen at 10 am west coast time the day after a loss? #thematrixisreal

The Chargers actually dominated the Raiders throughout the game except for the football-playing part.
They did have some pretty vicious FIRST DOWN! signals, especially when they were down by 5 TD's. They wanted to make sure everyone knew they got 10 yards to distract them from the scoreboard.

Chargers leaving San Diego is one of the best things to ever happen to me. I can now sit back and laugh like the rest of the world, while they find new ways to lose games in the 4th quarter. It no longer ruins my Monday. I still have Charger tattoos and always will. But they stand for San Diego Chargers. LA can have them. What a joke

Coach Staley was a dedicated Analytics offensive coach. He relied on it so much that he had an Analytics coordinator in the coaches' box. There were too many failures on 4th Down short yardage plays. Resulting in games lost. Analytics is good and bad for NFL football?. Sometimes you have to use common sense when coaching football. Staley was not a good head coach, period. Coach Payton of Denver should have had the Chargers head coaching job.

All he got was a suspension for one year and a miniscule fine.
All of the players who were injured, including Kurt Warner, who was forced into early retirement, should file a class action lawsuit against Sean Payton.

staley was just a nobody who came out of no where that they hyped up into some kind of football genius (guru) and spent 3 years defending his terrible display of coaching and trying to convince people he just needed more time and better players. then as soon as they canned him all the same people were like oh he is so bad he should have been fired long ago. Why won't the media criticize the owners? Spanos are to be blamed for this mess, they still go with the cheaper with no experience as a head coach. This has been the formula of the Spanos ruining fan base, players Careers and no Championship at all. LA must be we don’t want this and San Diego doesn’t have live with this non sense anymore. NFL or someone needs to take this team away from this poor/ worst ownership that is to greedy that could not stay in San Diego because they went for the money and embarrassed themselves because they still went cheap on the coach.
