"Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go, but what does my death matter if through us thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?" Sophie's words hit me from the first time I read them. Their sacrifice and bravery should not be forgotten and wasted; we need to watch for the warning signs of history repeating itself again. It is empowering to remember that even when the government and public are determined to close their eyes to the injustice they cause, there were and always will be individuals who will stand up for what is good and right.
I'm sick of people praising the animation and neglecting the gravity of the actual content. The white Rose was a rather small organization, but not because most germans were unconditional supporters of the regime, but rather because the system they were fighting was so incredibly powerful, controlling and omnipresent. Which is why their bravery and sacrifice can and should be admired for all time
I can currently in an original White Rose play at my school. It was written by somebody in our town. I play Hans and it takes place flashing back and forth through time, during their interrogation and trail. Such a heroic story and such brave people!
And in this perilous political climate, when the Hearts and Minds of our youth are in peril from lack of proper education, a proper historical perspective (our forefathers who fought against Fascism and Nazism have almost all died off so they can't teach the youth from personal experience), vacuous mass media "entertainment" and being brainwashed because they don't know any better, it is VERY HEARTENING to see that people like you, at TED-ed, care and take the time to provide such historical perspective. I hail you and praise you and THANK YOU form the bottom of my heart, KUDOS to you!
Student protest to the undemocratic activities of govts is a tale as old as time and I thank to all those brave heroes who stood up and fight for people of country and future generations instead of getting in line to kiss the assess of repressive leaders, which would have been so easy to their benefits in life, education and wealth! Nowadays some democratic countries leaders lable poor student unions fighting for justice of others as "communist, non patriotic, traitors, national threat etc etc" just cause they know students have power to overthrow the repressive regimes! And many gullible people fall for those tactics and listen to their masters. Long live democracy and long live dissent against oppression.
Oh my god I read about this on Pinterest and have wanted the complete story in elaboration for so long. Sophie Scholl's last words were so empowering and I'm glad this is being shared with the world because they deserve to be known
The things I love about this channel is that the animation is outstanding. It covers very hard topics and makes them into simple concepts and animation.
This is the first WW2 story that I learned. But the Animator who did this fantastic thumbnail was what made me clicked so TED talks please give the animator a raise
This is inspiring, we must all come together or even stand up as individuals for a righteous cause. It's so easy to fall into hate, fear and the belief that you or anyone are above others. I hope for a future where peace prevails and seeing the bravery of two youth inspires me to denounce hatred where I see it in my society. Thank you for the video Ted Ed ❤️
The animation and narration adds to this chilling story... for all of the good in the world, there will always be bad. This is an important reminder of our past, that will hopefully help our future.

This entire video I had chills going down my spine. An amazing and tragic story told brilliantly through great animation and narration. I love Ted ed. As soon as I start earning money I'm donating to their Patreon for sure.
The place at 1:58 is now called "Geschwister Scholl Platz". The building is the Munich University. Inside, in the main hall, is the white rose memorial. (I was very amazed that they captured the entrance so well!)
This was animated so beautifully and appropriately
This proves how important and influential journalism can be.
I'm so attracted to this channel, quality content.
this animation is so creative, very impressed
I can't describe the emotion this video has provoked in my soul. Everything about this video is just incredible, above anything I've seen anywhere. The creators of this video deserve awards.
The film is even more gripping.
I study in Munich. I live on Christoph-Probst-Straße and I'll be moving soon to Willi-Graf-Straße. I'm always humbled by the fact that I'm surrounded by the memories of true martyrs.
These Heroes deserves more recognition. A very inspiring story indeed
I'm a German student at the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Velbert, Westfalia. Each year my school has a day where we honor Hans and Sophie. This video was very excellent and I am very happy you made it. Keep it up! :)
In Italy we learn their story in high school, and I’m glad about it. Heroes must not be forgotten.
5:03 I was speechless by this drawing.. TED-Ed, u e AWESOME !!!
I’ve noticed that the swastikas have been replaced with diamond shapes on the flags.
Yet they still used an image of it in the video. It seems rather bizarre to leave it out in one area and include it in another.
But why? It’s an educational video. So what’s the point of the censorship?
Manu _ money
Oh!
@@bekirhadziomerovic5679 image of Swastika is acceptable as long as it is presented in a way that defies nazism rather than support it. Take a closer look at 1:17 - 1:28. The flag is raised then lowers, then he drops it from his hand. Also at 3:50 you can the swastika has an X over it.
We have a very short paragraph about them in school but I remember that the teacher highlight that it was their Christian faith that encourage them to not believe in all of this propaganda. So I always like to use them as a positive example of why faith is a good thing and that the teaching of tolerance, benevolence and abnegation are a good thing to tell from a young age. Beautiful animation as always! Thank you so much for all of your hard work, you are my favorite channel on RUclips.
Sophie's last words were beautifully poetic
The animation is so amazing.
This is so empowering and inspiring. Thank you Ted-Ed for sharing their story.
Hi ted-ed
Interesting video
Nice to learn about white rose, especially hans and sophie...
Brave guys..
Nice animation..
Thanks for the video ted-ed..🙏👍😊
"Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go, but what does my death matter if through us thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?"
Sophie's words hit me from the first time I read them.
Which is why their bravery and sacrifice can and should be admired for all time
this video is so beautiful. hats off to the narrator and the artist!
I can currently in an original White Rose play at my school. It was written by somebody in our town. I play Hans and it takes place flashing back and forth through time, during their interrogation and trail. Such a heroic story and such brave people!
Art here looks grim... very apocalyptic
You can also watch the movie about them
Such an inspiring story. The World needs more people with this level of courage.
Wow, that last line in combination with the excellent animation...chills.
The information and animation is awesome as always guys
The animation on this was so cool omg and the lines were delivered so perfectly
The style of this animation is so grueling and I love it.
The things I love about this channel is that the animation is outstanding. It covers very hard topics and makes them into simple concepts and animation.
If ted ed has advertisement, i will never skip
I'm thankful that you post these. The knowledge that is placed here are worth their weight in gold, especially in remembering this brave pair. ❤
I study at the same university as they did. It's so disturbing to know what happened there
The story of the white rose is a huge inspiration. The animation is even better than movies. Solid effort. Thanks ted-ed.
Omg the animation is so smooth , even smoother than smoothie and the theme is right on point
Felt like myself being in the era
This one really moved me..... almost to tears.
This is so good! The animation; the story; everything. Good job 👍
This is the first WW2 story that I learned. But the Animator who did this fantastic thumbnail was what made me clicked so TED talks please give the animator a raise
Even in her fury she was strong enough to speak so hopefully.
Giving yourself up for the righteous cause
What a beautiful soul
It takes an incredibly special person to be willing to put his or her life on the line for a complete stranger. Informative. Live long and prosper.😇🖖
One of the very best by Ted Ed!!
is this a movie? always loved ted ed's animations!!! very informative and fun at the same time
The animation and narration adds to this chilling story... for all of the good in the world, there will always be bad. This is an important reminder of our past, that will hopefully help our future.
“such a fine, sunny day, and i have to go” is such a tragic line 😭
The animation on this channel just keeps getting better and better.
Hey, I actually know this one! Great video TedEd!
I did a report on this in high school! I have LOADS of books about the scholl siblings and the white rose
