- In this video, I show you how to start a car with an automatic transmission. It may seem like basic car knowledge for someone that has been driving for many years; however, this is crucial information for a beginner driver or someone that wants to get their license soon. I outline all of the instructions in a step-by-step manner.

Ignore the haters. This is important for beginners.
@burningfeet 57 imagine replying to a 3 year old comment with negativity lmfao
@@Darklovesto :))))
Yeah I was actually searching for this because I tough that you first needed to put your foot on the brake all the way down and then start the car
what a foolish video for a beginner he should tell were the gear to be set and what to do with break and accelerator
It really is
This is actually important for beginners
Thanks! That was my target audience for the video!
dumb ass
Mao Ishting me too
I've been a mechanic for 10 years and you missed a step. Turn the key to the "on" position, then wait a couple seconds. I usually count 3 dings of the seat belt warning. This let fuel get to the motor and get under pressure as it needs since every car is now fuel injected. Also results in a smoother start. Just "turning it on" will result in fouled spark plugs which will require a $150 tune up sooner than it should be.
Facts... I have a 97 Volvo 850 and I always wait a few seconds after turning ignition on and my girl who also occasionally drives it never does this and I just had to replace the spark plugs because the engine started idling very very low
Great advice brother
I am letting my girls friend use my car and I recently went to go with a ride with them. Wouldn’t start the first time started rough the second
thanks for the advice ur a lifesaver now i know what to do when i start the car : D
Hell yea, gotta let the fuel pump prime
Y'all salty. I needed this because I always start it wrong
Soy-un-dorito bvb then you are dumb
stuff with your low life having ass
Me too😢😢😢😢😢 I want to get it so I can drive out when I'm stress
Soy-un-dorito bvb I remember you
there’s a lot of people hating but i’m taking drivers ed now with an older car and i’ve only ever driven cars with button starts before, so nobody ever taught me how to start it. this really helps
Dont say “old cars” the new button bullshit is terrible. fucking kids
this video is intended for beginners and actually it's very informative in term of the safety of the car battery and engine...Please no sarcasm and dumb comments unless your just renting your car that's why u don't care...
First make sure your shifter is on the Park position then step on the brake, and finally switch on the ignition using your key!
You are the best teacher
Ñ
That's how I learned in high school. Started to think I was doing it wrong.
That was my concern actually
Thank you for answering my concerns..this is how I was taught, check the gear is on P, step on the brake, then turn the ignition..
Honestly really helpful. I kept killing batteries and starters by holding it too long. Never knew to watch the rpms thank you
🤣 wow I’m not laughing at you but what you said
Lovely Ley lol yeah I’m not the most mechanically inclined. I tend to overthink things as well - obviously 😂. But to give myself some credit I recently got a new car and found out that my old car was notorious for starter failures and battery problems
dude i think this is happening to me rn 😭😭😭
your comment helped me because i was like wtf is going on with my car i had to jump start it like three times and the battery is new and everything is good with the car no problems. and same i don’t know a lot about cars and overthink way too much
Driving School don't teach you all this
Meek Safar'I facts
ive been training for almost 5 months and they didnt tell me about this
Yes!!
@@faithirismacilvaine2499 Any who I pass and got my license it’s been 3 years now
I had to replace my starter recently. I was never taught to look at the meter when starting the engine. Thanks for the video. :)
Beginner here and this actually helped me. Thanks
Ñ
Good one, learnt to keep an eye on tachometer once I crank the engine! Thanks your videos are of great help, may God bless you.
"If your key is retractable, flip it out" - Excellent advice!
Lmao
Ñ
Thank you for explaining this, and about when to when to stop turning the key when the meter goes up, you're the only one that explains this. When my bro tried to teach me to drive 2 years ago, he bit my head off when I was turning the key for too long but didn't explain when you stop turning the key.
The "Hey Everybodyyyyyyy" will never get old.
Thank you! I was never taught how to just turn on the radio, only how to start the engine. I had an idea but I didn’t want to ruin anything. This really helped!
Thank you for this, really great for beginners ! :)
this is great for new beginners to know the controls
Im trying to turn my dads car but it scares me cause he ask me to start the car but when i do it wrong it makes a noise and im not sure if its normal or not i just know he gets mad at me when that happens and rn im stuck here trying to start the car without doing something bad
Edit!! I did it after this video and for the first time i did well!! OMG THANKSS ❤️❤️
Helpful vid! Thank you very much for your effort in making this tutorial!
thank you for this video. i was turning my car on totally wrong this whole time. my brother told me i would mess up my starter if i kept doing that, so i searched for your video . thanks
Basically basic but probably helped some beginners!
is it necessary to press the brake paddle when crank the engine with auto car? or i just leave my gear lever to Parking and handbrake activated then crank the engine?
I was wondering what the tachometer is for, like what would it mean if it goes up into the higher numbers?
I didn't know about looking at the tachometer as an indicator to release the key lol. I've been doing it wrong all this time. Thanks for the information!
I was wondering when you get into the car do you just put your key in and turn it all the way to turn it on? Is that not bad?
Very useful Sir, i'm a newbie so every little steps you show matters and is of utter importance. Thank you.
Thank you so much! This was so helpful! :)
Thanks for this very important part of the lesson for a beginner like myself
THANK YOU. This video helped so much.
I’ve been learning how to drive for a year and yet no one really taught me how to start one, so thanks
Thank you so much brother , this informations so useful , god bless you!.
This actually helped me. Thank you. Ignore the salty commenters.
yeah no shit
dumb ass
Fuck u
@Ishaal Ramroop keep ir ugly ass looking self to yourself
What in the fuck is wrong with these replies?
Can you start drive with only putting the key in the second position?
Si, I know how to start a car now. I learned that from you and I tried it myself and I did great😀thx buddy
Thank you for your help
Thank you for this!
What about pressing the brake pedal? I'm being told to press the brake pedal on an automatic when starting, I don't know why.
Sometimes i start my car and turn the key and it wont start. And then i try again and it ignites. I dunno, maybe im turning too softly. Im still not very good at starting it.
so when u start the engine with the key do u have to hold on the break or sonething? thanks
lamello ball that’s what I need to know
GUYS HELP!! I have just noticed recently that when i put the key in my automatic car, i see ABS on dashboard is this normal?? it goes off after starting the car and whilst driving.
Old video but do you start the car with your foot on the brake or just start.
thanks alot just got my license and this vid helped me so much!
You are awesome great video thank you for your help.
Hello! Man! Well, to be honest, I have watched so many similar videos like this one. So I also want to record car driving for myself just like U. Because I believe it's so interesting. But unfortunately, I still don't know how to create a car driving video just like this one. In other words, if I am going to record it, what things (tools) do I have to prepare? Just iPhone SE is OK? If not, would U like to help me provide more specific details, please? Then I will be so appreciated! Thank U so much!
I know this seems self explanatory but really it hard cause I get stressed I’m going to mess up my switch, cause I’ve done it once and people alway say I turn too much
Mans I’ve watched 10+ videos of this guy helpful driving skills you deserve 1million subscribers thanks.
thank you for this sir! helped me a lot! :) im going to driving school soon. if you dont mind ,can you teach me how to rev a car after starting the engine? :)
iPocky JP press acc pedal on park gear and on neutral with handbrake ON
I wish you would also tell in which position to keep the transmission and which pedal to push while starting the car.
not gonna lie imma try this "tackometer thing you mentioned about it moving and letting go. as of late ive been getting the ignition things wrong with about 5 of my vehicles. kinda embarrasing, but those push to start cars are starting to get to me. guess its kinda like driving a manual, converting to a automatic then back and forth. guess it messes with me.
I'm learning. Thank you
Does this work on a MK4 GTI?
Very helpful.thank you!!
Thank you for this video!!
I have my road test today and didn't know how to start a car. Tysm, driving instructor failed to show me
Thank you for the video!
So my mom left me in the car with the keys..and I thought i was gonna die. But i started the car and blasted the ac lol thanks bro.
Thank you so much. This is useful in 2024
thnx bro.Could u upload more video about next steps!!plz
Very helpful Thanks man 🤝
ive done many mods to my car but i just learned what the difference possitions did
oh gosh thank you. I usually drive a prius so i forgot how "real car keys" work!
Aren’t you supposed to turn it to the On Position and wait till the noise stops then crank the engine?
Correct me if I am wrong
My sister had such a hard time doing this very simple task when teaching her how to drive. She would either release the key too early and half starting the car or wouldn’t release the key after engine had started and the starter gear would start grinding.
Wow thanks man! Now i know how to start my car!
this made my day thank you XD
Thanks. This is helpful.😊
I don't get it, what's wrong with this video?
because people are assholes they think everyone should already know this lol
@@emtz1 i agree, some people dont understand others who were still just begginers
first you have to put on 2nd position and than leave all the lights to go off and remain just 3-4 lights on and than start the car , no like how you done it will broken your plugs
Can you word that a little better..
Do you have to press on the brakes while you do this? I drive a push to start car and have no idea how a key start car starts
no but you need to push the brake to shift gears im sure you know
some people are just learning
Is it necessary to keep your foot on the break? Also I know this is very simple but for some reason in my 3 or so years of driving I'm currently having an issue of overturning the key and having a screeching sound when I do so. I'm afraid to damage the car with this. It's frustrating because before I would just turn the key and no problem but now I have this issue and I don't know why.
either starter motor / solenoid / relay
battery should be around 12.6V and not less than 12V
Johnny Lema make sure you don't keep the key turned all the way after the engine is on. If you do, then the engine AND the starter motor are on at the same time and that's not good.
@@nobilitas16 uh
@@SamNusbaum huh?
@@SamNusbaumI always release the key right after the engine starts. But sometimes there is a screeching sound when I turn the key from ON to Start. Could this be because I turn the key too far to the Start position ? And could it damage the teeth on the flywhell and on the starter if I have done it a couple times so far on a new automatic CVT car ? Thanks!
Thank you!
This was helpful
Thank you so much 🎉😊
Love the enthusiasm 😭
Thank you so much
I'm dying in my parents car but they left me the key, so yeah.. need this
same
Beginner here!, thanks
Very helpful
Thank you for this it make me so nervous to turn the car on when Im alone 😅
My brother told me to turn on the car this is a life saver
Thanks !!
Thanks bro
Thank you sir
Thank u ! :)
Thank you so much for this. I just got my car starter replaced because I started it wrong the whole time
And Foot on the break or not?
Thank you
As a passenger princess, who has zero experience and knowledge. This helped start a car engine 😂❤ thank you
Do I need to press on the brake before starting the car?
That's what I ask myself too lol
This changed the game
You don’t have to press the break to turn on the car?
Russell Westbrook no 😂 , you just press the brake when you move to D or R
Wow I’m in my 9th lesson still learning this lol
wait so don’t you have to put your foot on the brake and live it there when turning the car halfway??
On a pushbutton start vehicle, you have to put your foot on the brake to start the car. On key start vehicles, you don’t need too do it.
love it
Nice one
tried on motorcyle rlly works
Thanks bro. I just bought my car and everyone tells me about burning the starter????? Idk wtf that is but this taught me that haha.
same my dad just told me today 😭😭😭
This is the most Canadian man I've ever seen
