  • Hey yall! Today's video is an in depth look into my financials while being a student at The Ohio State University. I wanted to give yall a close and realistic look at how much it costs to go to OSU for 4 years, and even 5 years if you're like me! I spill all the tea on exactly how much tuition costs, room and board, on campus housing, off campus housing, sororities, direct costs, indirect costs, and even how much loans I have out to pay for school. I hope this video is helpful, especially for all my #New2OSU buckeyes!!!

However I still have another 3-3 1/2 years left that are gonna be hell to pay for as someone who has to live in a dorm for of those years and knowing that final aid doesn't really help at all for a masters degree.

    Hey I’m coming to osu in the fall and I was wondering about the differences in living on north south and west campus

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  4 года назад +4

      West campus has 2 larger towers: Morril and Lincoln Tower. Those rooms fit up to 16 people in separate little pod/rooms. People love living in them but they're kind of out of the way from campus campus. Think of north campus like a city. mainly buildings all around and newer buildings. Think of south campus as having more green space and places (mirror lake, union, oval, etc.) and older buildings with newer ones too. I personally love south because of the surrounding areas, where north is too concrete jungle for me in a way. I hope that helps!

    • @jmkinney2019

    I always wondered what the cost comparison was for living in dorms vs living on your own and whether it was more cost effective to be off campus, just as I thought it’s significantly cheaper. Just WOW, I honestly haven’t attended college full time in over 10 years and the costs have literally skyrocketed! The cost of me to attend a private school back then was just $20,000 a year. DAMN college costs have gotten insane. I also saved myself even more money by attending community college for gen ed, if students nowadays are not doing that I have no idea how they can do this, they’re gonna be in insane debt when they graduate

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  4 года назад +2

    Do you think it was worth it for you to go to OSU and have some debt and pay as much as you did, or would it be better for me to just avoid debt altogether and go somewhere I’d be less happy/would miss out on the college experience, like community college? I’m currently stuck on deciding whether I’d rather graduate with tons of debt or if I’d rather graduate with no debt but be unhappy for the four years I’m there. Any insight would be awesome!!

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  4 года назад +3

      the PERFECT scenario for that, would be maybe to go to CC for the first 2 years, graduate with your associates and complete all your GE's and then transfer to a bigger college for your last 2 years and you would have less debt and get to "experience" college! I don't know if that is something you would be able to do! but it's an option. Overall, I think it depends on what you really want out of college. if you want the social aspect more, then that may be the better option and you sacrifice the price, or if you are really wanting the degree the most then the best option would be to go to CC and come out with less debt. Think about your major and what schools are best for that, think about your own personal financial situation and if you CAN afford to do that and get a job after college that can pay your bills AND your debt off. there's def different things to think about. But I hope that's helpful!!

    Hi I have a few questions! I'm an incoming freshman and my "estimated cost of attendance" is 51,000. I see that yours were almost half of that. Is that just because college is getting more expensive? Also I saw that living off campus was cheaper than living on campus which was interesting. If I were to also join a sorority, what would you say is the cheapest way to go. Living off campus in an apartment, or living in the sorority house?

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  4 года назад

      It depends on if you're in state vs. out of state. And some programs have higher fees (engineering, business, etc.) that may be driving that up unlike my $45 psychology fee. Ultimately that includes costs you WILL pay to the University and other costs you MAY come across just being in Columbus, but NOT PAID to the university, so not all of that is FOR SURE going to be spent/paid, just an estimate. If you want a better look at your estimated cost of attendance and why it is the way it is, I would give BuckeyeLink, OSU's financial aid office a call at 614-292-0300 :)
      Living off campus is usually cheaper (definitely in the rent portion) but when you add in groceries, utilities, etc., it's honestly pretty comparable to your dorm and meal plan living on campus.
      The most cost effective sorority on campus right now is Alpha Omicron Pi, but each chapter has different dues and housing fees, and each chapter has different rules on live in requirements so you may have to live in the chapter house 1 or 2 years or so and maybe you don't have to at all and you can live in an apartment. For ME, living in my sorority house and living in my apartment is literally THE SAME, like $1-200 cheaper, but honestly you don't notice. I hope that's helpful!!

    Hello! I stumbled upon your video coincidently and it is very interesting. I am from France and I am doing my master on the french university. I am very shocked to know how much it costs you! Can you explain to me how did you do to pay for your college? In France direct cost of one year in a public university is 150-200$ maximum, but it is free if your incomes are low. So I never pay any of my 3 years of Licence (undergraduate) and my 2 years of Master. It is very difficult for me to understand how college works in the US, it is not a reproach at all !! Just I want to understand how people do to go to uni ? (sorry for my English!)
