- Part 2 of the tutorial on playing jacks or better video poker. Here we play actual dealt hands and apply the video poker strategy that we learnt in part 1. A couple of advanced plays pop up which will come in handy for an even better video poker strategy.
Thank you for the guidance. I held three to a straight flush and ... caught my first Royal Flush!
+The Bruce, Mile High Congratulations! There's no sweeter feeling.
Love it!
At 2:20you held the q and the j over the ace. That was smart and I get why now (for straight chances^%)
Thank you for going slow enough for me follow what you are saying and explaining every hand.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. May the good news be yours!
How much do odds go down by not better x5 but rather betting x1
Good video, not too fast like some, I'm a slow player anyway, I like to make damn sure im making the right decision. i dont always lol
Thanks for the comment. I'm also a slower player. My wife plays so much faster but I have it in my mind tat she's making errors - even though I know she plays perfectly. Remember that you can practice the strategy with the real games for free from the TheMysticgambler.com website
Smart. Sometimes you miss those little pairs and outside straight draws when you play fast. Good luck!
I just got onto the video poker website and downloaded an app on my Ipad. Has the little stop light and recommends certain holds. I have to say that it really helps me improve my strategy. My dilemma is that it recommends that you hold a High pair even if you could make up a possible Royal Flush that your holding example- KH, KS, QS, 10S AS,. Makes me uneasy. Is this correct?
+Leta Robinson Playing Jacks or better games, you would hold four cards to a royal flush over a high pair but not three cards to a royal flush over the same high pair. Four cards to a royal flush actually beats most paying hands (except 4 of a kind, a straight flush and of course a pat royal flush).
The Mystic Gambler
Thank you for your advice. Does that also count if your holding 3 to a royal, but you have one low card say a 6S which could complete the flush and the KH. Still only holding the 3 highest? Should you discard both in that circumstance?
+Leta Robinson With most pay tables, you would hold three to a royal flush over four to a flush.
This is a GREAT program. Free?I paid $50 for Bob Dancers video poker for winners.Very helpful.
You should leave a link to the stragedy trainer.
Thanks for your reply I love video poker but didn't do well on Jack's or better. I prefer deuces wild. What's your opinion and also on a Q A 7 6 J not suited why hold the Q and J only. For a possible straight are a pair of A no good. I hope I dont sound stupid thanks. By the way I pick the same as you 99.9 %. I'm learning but usually come out ahead. Thanks again
More opportunities to improve the hand by holding the Jack and Queen. Holding the Ace limits the chances to draw 4 of a kind and other hands.
I only see the straight as a reason. How could quads be a reason makes no sense to me
@3:41 wouldn't you hold the 3 diamonds to the straight flush?
No. Its better to hold the pair. You need the 4 and 5 of diamonds and odds are against you. The pair has many more chances to win
At 3:35 you had 3 to a straight flush but kept the low pair instead. Is it only on a 3 to a Royal where you dismiss the low pair ?
You don’t chase inside straights. You’d need another card to justify it
I never hold a royal card with a 10, both suited. I usually wait for 3-4 cards suited for a royal or straight flush. Would it be a mistake to not hold those two cards?
Notwithstanding better holds, the only time that you don't hold the 10 with a suited royal card is when the royal card is an Ace. You should always hold the 10 with any other suited royal card (in this games) if you don't have a better play. You are losing money if you don't.
That's correct. The only two card royal that you don't hold is an Ace / 10 (in jacks or better).
+The Mystic Gambler Ok, so a K, Q, and J with a 10 suited can be held, but not the Ace/10 suited. Great! Thank you! I'm playing Four Kings Casino on my PS4, and I'm playing video poker myself. ;)
Question. If I have 3 to a straight flush and a little pair or jacks or better, should I still chase the straight flush?
Hold the pair.
@@TheMysticGambler hold the low pair as well or just the jacks or better pair?
What's your opinion on playing multi-hand machines?
Fun to play but there's an increase in volatility. So your enjoyment depends on the size of your bankroll.
When u have 3 non-suited high cards and one is an ace, what is the rationale for discarding the ace?
Im guess because the the Q and J are connectors. maybe a slightly slightly higher chance at a flush while having the same chance of hitting a Jacks or Better pair.
Ace is dead end. You have no chance of getting anything on the high side.
For the straight %^
Plus by holding three cards you take away the chance for four of a kind and a full house.
My biggest headache is how to deal with a suited King-Ten combo. Playing 3 line Super Times Pay Poker (JOB).
Hand #1 I was dealt 5 clubs, 10 spades, 6 spades, k spades, 4 clubs. I held the King-Ten combo but the computer program
said to only keep the King. Hand #2 was k spades, 2 diamonds, 9 hearts, 10 spades, 3 clubs. This time I did hold just
the King and now the program tells me I should have held the King-Ten. What am I missing here?
Normally the suited ten and king is better than the king alone, however, if you must discard a 9 and a flush penalty card, then hold the king only. So I'm not sure what's going on here. But playing penalty cards in this game (JOB) are not worth the brain power and the speed of play reduction IMO. Just hold the K and the 10 and you'll do fine.
@@TheMysticGambler I just found out about penalty cards and you are right, not worth using the brain power
to try and figure it out.
Why not hold the ace if you have 2 unsuited unpaired face cards and an ace? Why just the face cards?
Because the odds of improving the hand are significantly better if you can draw three cards to the other face cards. In JOB, the Ace has nothing special to offer and can be a detriment to the possibilities on the draw. Thanks for the comment. May the good news be ours!
Do you ever play the 50/50 game after a win? I hit three 50/50 in a row after a flush tonight.
That's great. But no, I don't play it. Thanks for the comment.
at 2:57 you have 3 to the royal, but also 4 to the straight. The correct play is to go for the royal, even at only 3?
+Chris Borella Yes, holding 3 to the Royal is correct in this case. Actually, 3 to the Royal even beats 4 to a flush - not by much - but still it does. I understand what you're thinking though - that particular 4 to a straight, (T,J,Q,K) is worth more than a low card straight. But not more than 3 to the Royal. The common mistake that players make is holding 3 to the Royal over 4 to an inside or open straight flush. Ouch! Here's what the hands in question are worth when playing 9/6 JOB:
1.3867 3 to a Royal
1.2646 4 to a Flush
0.8723 TJQK
+The Mystic Gambler
Thanks for the explanation!
would you say there's a limit to the number of hands you should play with out any winning hand?
That's funny you should ask. From time to time it seems like there is no limit. It's called a slump - or a run of bad luck. But there will also be times when you'll get 3 four of a kind hands in a 15 minute period. Once I hit two royals within 5 hands of each other. And I've played dozens of hands without a win. So, no, there is no limit. Thankfully that's for both sides of the spectrum. Most of the time, however, you'll find that it's pretty evenly spread out as per the mathematical expectations.
The Mystic Gambler
When you have a low pair and four cards to a flush, you hold the four to the flush. So, four to a flush 'beats' a low pair.
But what if it's a Jacks or better pair? Take the money or go for the flush?
+Saxysaboy77 A pair of Jacks or better is not a low pair. It is a paying hand so you hold it. When playing Jacks or Better, you'll almost always hold the money except hold 4 to an inside straight flush over a high pair and hold 4 to an open straight flush over two pair. Of course you would hold 4 to a royal flush over everything except a pat four of a kind or a pat straight flush.
Thanks
Great video!
Thank you so much.
Nice.
Is this basically Jack's are wild
I wonder if anyone has ever had back to back royal flushes on the same machine
The short answer is yes. It may not happen often but it happens more than people may think it does.
@@TheMysticGambler Video poker is my game of choice but I personally never heard of anyone hitting a royal flush than hitting another royal flush on the very next hand.wow that’s mind blowing. I did see a women on a dollar machine hit two royals on the same machine but they were about a hour apart.oddly enough,of the dozen royals I have hit,ten were the dark suits.are all variations of v.p.the same odds for royals or does one variation hit the most royals?
sat at 80 credits the entire time
Why hold the 10 and K out of 10 3 6 4 K?
I assume the 10 and K are suited. So, a pair of Kings will give you a paying hand. And a 10, K are two cards of a royal or a straight, again, all paying hands. Although statistically pulling a royal out of it is a tough hand to make.
I don't agree. By keeping the ten you are taking away another chance of getting the second king to give you a winning hand. also you are taking away a chance of pulling the fourth king for four of a kind.
I've been doing all of this and I still lose all my money:/
It happens. Practice and keep at it.
@@TheMysticGambler a few days ago I got two straight flushes. Won 200$!
I'm losing my mind I cant figure this out why hold a queen over an ace
An Ace isn't anything special in this game and actually can be a dead ender - with more opportunities offered by holding cards that have better chances of making more hands. To help think it through remember that all four of a kinds pay the same in this game.
Once again the quads theory makes no sense to me. It’s for the straight possibilities that you get rid of the ace
wtf u can't beat a machine ask him how many times he has won

Wouldn't it be wiser, to not give your hard earned money away....A fool and his money are easily separated
Gambling is purely for fun. It's not a way to make money. People spend money on fun every day.
