  • I never thought Mark Walters blokart speed record of 64.4 mph could be broken, but I did best it yesterday 9-22-16 with a speed of 65 mph. The conditions were perfect for a record. The wind blew 30-35 mph out of the SW with higher gust to over 40. Timing the higher gust is always critical for a high speed run. I made a number of passes in the 61-63mph range. There is a lot of luck involved when trying to sail a blokart 65mph. If you don't receive a strong wind gust once your up to speed, you will never break 60mph. Yesterday I timed the gust pretty good allowing me to sail my kart deeper with power at just the right time.
Having my gps pointed towards my go pro allowed real time speed which worked out really well until I sailed deep off the wind to the East, away from the afternoon sun. It would of been nice to have a clear readout during my record pass. The Max Speed readout on my gps confirmed my real time readout of 65mph.
Gary Terell and my wife Patty were also there, taking photos, shooting video and as witnesses.

Congrats on the Blokart record. Amazing location. I rode there once in a kite buggy back in 2011. Low winds unfortunately. Love the no music footage, just wind and sail. 👍

    Morning Scott,
Congratulations on the record. I was wondering if we would be able to use this footage in the World Sailing Show October episode?
    Thank you in advance.

Thanks! If I didn't trust that my kart would remain predictable and stable at these speeds I would of never attempted this!

Thanks! Blokarts are incredible little land yachts. I sail mine, many times in very strong winds here at ivanpah, NV for months at a time and I've never had a part failure...........just flat tires!

Scott, are you a dealer? Curious on price, Comp Kart, 4M sail w/pod? I'm thinking I need a blokart, looks awesome!!!

The Ivanpah race track is a location in the Mojave Wasteland, and is located northwest of Nipton and due north of the Nipton Road pit stop.

Sorry but the Blokart speed record is currently held by Bryan Cook 110kmh at Lake Lefroy Western Australia Sat 21st May 2016. See Seabreeze Blokart forum for confirmation.

Don't be "sorry" Bryan Cook did go fast in a modified blokart.......real fast...........but not in a ALL stock unmodified blokart. If Bryan wants to hold the "blokart speed record" he needs to do it in a ALL stock-Unmodified blokart.
Reducing drag using fairings and a smaller Non-blokart sail and saying Bryan broke MY record is a joke! Is this how you race "down under" You must have 3 classes down there! Production, Performance and Modified Performance!
Blokart forum for conformation???? Must be some kind of propaganda site!

Well done Scott. On 21 may 2016 I did 68.35 mph (110 kph)
on the salt at Lake Lefroy in Western Australia. The blokart had a recut sail at 1.8m and panels on the sides to improve airflow. Some have said its not a blokart anymore, 99.9% blokart by my reckoning. When the winds up and you have plenty of room to blast about, you have to give it your best. .Details on Seabreeze.com.au / landsailing forums

100% blokart by "your" reckoning. The Blokart I used was 100% stock! ALL original Blokart parts and NOTHING non-blokart added! Sailing a "modified" Blokart and claiming to break the "Blokart" speed record is a fantasy! All you did is sail faster than me in a "modified" Blokart. The wind drag at speeds over 60mph are incredible! Using "side panels" to route the wind around the cockpit instead of over the skipper and into the seat back is an enormous advantage. I can't believe you didn't go over 70mph! It would be like racing against another Blokart around the track that's been modified over a stock kart........... it's meaningless! Sail a 100% stock Blokart using a GPS (camera recording the GPS during the run if possible) faster than 65MPH and you own the record...............68.35mph is fast!!!!!!!!!!!
      Just straightening out the "record"
