I remember seeing this film in theaters and the gag really was accentuated by the English subtitles going above the already existing Japanese ones. This was especially funny when the subtitles became so numerous that nearly the entire screen was covered.
When I saw this in cinemas, some guy in the row in front of me absolutely lost his fucking mind at the " the noodles got soggy". It pulled me out of the movie so hard

Shin Godzilla is surprisingly funny at times.
This change totally kills the humor and the political irony implicated throughout the film.
