Legato is one of the main techniques that lead guitar players find themselves using when soloing and in today's lesson, I wanted to share some tips with you on how you can approach your legato technique to achieve a more fluid and even sound in your lines.
These tips are ones that I picked up from watching Tom Quayle's RUclips lessons and courses over the years. Tom is a true master of the legato technique and I used to practice exercises from his Modern Legato 1 course on a daily basis, back when I was studying music at university.
Recently I decided to get back into legato playing and I found that the muscle memory I had developed from practicing said exercises was still somewhat there, so for the past few weeks I've been trying to revive my legato technique.
I learned a TON about legato by just doing that lick over and over. So well played and very good teaching. Love your lessons!
Very nice video. And the way you complement Tom shows a lot of character. I hope your channel will keep growing
Fantastic playing and tutorial! Thank you.
Ross....I love your slash videos. There's a lot of Slash tutorials out there but nobody breaks down his ascending licks on the lower strings. What I mean is the patterns (threes fours fives) etc. It would be awesome if you could do another slash video like that.
Great video Ross Thanks for the exercises they’re great
Great lesson ! Thanks Ross👍
Great lesson thank you 😊
Loved the video Ross. Thank you! really helpful man!
Glad to hear that! Thanks :)
Sounding class man! Hope you're doing good :)
Thanks bud! Hope you are too :)
Legato is so fun when used effectively! Smooth on a physical and tonal level. Cheers Ross!
Thank you!
@@RossCampbellGuitarist My pleasure!
No one ever covers 2 note per string legato, with hammers from nowhere, is this something you may cover? Your an awesome player
Thanks, Ross, you've provided a lot to chew on. The challenge for me is the different volume of my pick, hammer-ons and pull-offs, no matter how hard I try. Is a compressor part of the solution here?
You and Tom are 2 of the best teachers out there 👌👌
Thank you!
Who's Tom? What is his full name?

@@SaulIsaac30 The person named in the video!
It would feel quite alien to me to play with the fingers of my right hand curled up, so picking the G string with the middle finger, as you did in this video, isn't an option, however, I still play passages like that with less right hand movement than you demonstrated when using the pick/plectrum on both strings. The way that I do this is by picking the D string with an up-stroke, followed by the G string with a down-stroke. Not only does this reduce the movement required by the right hand but it also reduces the tendency to dig into the G string, therefore producing a softer sound.
You are amazing and totally out of my league.
I love your guitar 🎸 what model is it please?
Great playing 👌
Sorry, you probably wanted Ross to answer but it’s a 2017 Fender custom shop 60s relic strat ruclips.net/video/dcdne8CtXLk/видео.html
💯
Hi Ross, I've been practicing legato for years, but my pinky hammer ons still sound weak and inaccurate. Especially when I play 124 (fingers) or 134 3nps lines. (My 123 3nps sound strong and I can do it up tempo.) Any tips? Cheers
what are the difference between legato and sweep picking?
Great job, Ross!
Are you running any Balck Friday campaign this year?
He does! I've already pulled the trigger. More info is posted on his IG account. Can't way to work my way through the material, it looks pretty solid!
@@Metius22 Thanks heaps buddy! I will look it up. 😎😎
I got tired of buying course. But I took the plunge and signed up for your bulletproof guitar. I just honestly don't know how I can remember everything lol. I've bee stuck at mediocre for years. I can cover stuff, but I wanted to expand my theory knowledge. I'm still struggling.. I wanted to be a teacher, but, maybe I'm not smart enough lol
can you put those legato exercises up

appreciate my humble legato in my channel
if you had to pick both strings, the second string would be a UP pick , down up,, much easier than down down on both strings
I tried to enter your legato lessons but its says "write a valid email adress". Tryed again but nothing😞
Make sure you aren't leaving an empty space at the end of your email address

@@RossCampbellGuitarist anyway great video as always, you're such an amazing guitarist

Hi Ross, stay with the beautiful blues tunes.
I don't like Tom's style, noodling playing without melody and without meaning.
Nonsensical and non-melodic Noodling and equally terrible fusion are a mixture of Jazz.
How did poor Jazz turn out.
The original style gave rise to two such big nonsenses that are spreading like a disease in the world of guitarists.
