I can’t think of a single lesson on RUclips that has inspired me so much! I just took the concept of legato line + arpeggio and the piviot on the third time you do it, and kept on practicing it for an hour! It’s like an infinite lines glitch! Unbelievable! I’ve never come across something like this before ❤❤❤
Excellent lesson. I've recently discovered Tom Quayle. I've been wanting to use a lot more legato in my playing and love the flow and precision of Tom's playing. I've been wanting to get that feel to my legato and this sounds like an excellent place to start. Thank you for sharing this. 😊
You've just blown my mind, man, I love this! From my very first attempt at this, it just seems so logical and flows so beautifully. I almost don't have to think about it because it sounds and feels so natural. I'd love to see more of this kind of thing, cheers!
Brilliant! I've been working on this TQ idea since the pandemic. 4ish years later and it's almost baked-in but I still find myself working on it every day. It's a great 'connective tissue' concept.
Nice breakdown! Very helpful. One other thing that Quayle does is play a specific number of notes per run. Start with say, nine, and make every phrase nine notes. And then twelve, and so on. Shorter runs are more consistent but sometimes sound contrived. The longer runs make for a more thoughtful and "surprising" endeavor. Woo Hoo!!
I have watched so many Tom Quayle videos and honestly, you might explain it better than he does. Perhaps he never came from the transitioning point like you, and me, where we were stuck in the 3NPS mode from years of PG , Vai, etc. I can definittely see how the backwards rake can kinda reset the run. Love it and your improv is good.
Just plain awesome, John! So...my hand span isn't like yours for the first 5 to 7 frets. I tried pushing it and developed tendinitis⚡ I'll do what I can to adapt. Good news is you give plenty of good stuff to incorporate with less distance between frets. Keep inspiring us!
I'm new to amp modeling and would appreciate your help. I love your guitar tone in this video, but I don't know what equipment and expressions I need to get that tone. Would you please let me (and I'm sure others) what equipment you use to get this tone. Thanks and best wishes.
Hi John...huge fan of your playing...just one question re: legato...how do you graduate from the Satriani style of legato onto the Brett Garsed (early 90s) style of legato...any thoughts on ideas, approaches, philosophy and exercises? thanks (sorry if I haven't phrased my question well!!)
This was a great video and your tone sounds incredible! Side note, @3:22 I actually laughed out loud when you said Petrucci and Train of Thought. I think it was an unintentional coincidence, but hilarious nonetheless 😂
Mr. Cordy! Would you be able to make this content available in a form of a podcast? I really enjoy your videos, but I find that I don't always need the visual aspect to understand what's going on. Personally it's a lot easier for me to consume this type of slightly longer content when I'm commuting or generally outside, so having these as a podcast feed would be awesome!
@@NowakP so plug in the charger and set it in the cupholder or other seat...why do you have to lock your phone, you're just driving? Just because it's on doesn't mean you have to watch it. I'd also imagine that you have bluetooth in your car, so obviously you'd be playing it over the speakers anyway, and if not, get an auxiliary cable
Lovely tone. I always prefer your playing when the tone is a cleaner. It’s more difficult, but much more rewarding. Just me maybe, but lead tone drenched in overdrive with bucketfuls delay/verb sounds cheap
How do you create your live loops, but then have drums on top? Is it added in post or just removed from the beginning and you're hearing drums the whole time? Do tell!
drums and sometimes bass (I believe) added in post. As someone mentioned there’s at least one full video dedicated to explaining his workflow, perhaps more

Hi John
You are one of my favorite guitarists. Your beautiful melodies with a soft attack always touches my heart.
You are my inspiration.
Thank you

I can listen to John eternally !!!
The musicality you got is unique.. you’re the next mark Knopfler in a more complexe shape ..

Great playing, great tone, great teacher, this is awesome!

It's so funny: I've been wondering on exactly that for a while, and now I get a full JNC tutorial. Let me see what I can "think" of next lol
Oooo this is the kind of lesson that’s gonna have me practicing my calluses off! Thanks for this lesson Mr Cordy!
One of the best solos I have ever heard. Thank you
Thanks John! I truly appreciate what you on Mondays. Well the rest of the week, too 😊
Nice Pattern and very well explained!
Great tone. I’ve been really working on getting that 3NPS feel out of my legato lines, this really helps. Thanks ❤❤❤
Another great lesson, thanks John! Always thoughtful and very useful. Been extremely busy past few months but back on your drills 🫡

Thanks for this. Excellent lesson. Always into making exercises interesting and eventually creative once your hand does it easily. Ty!
Awesome lesson John, keep them coming!
Great playing, love that guitar too
Brilliant lesson. Love it. Cheers!
Nice catch on one of Tom’s tricks 😊
Very helpful lesson! Thanks for sharing
Great lesson thank you! I also think that motif can be very useful when moving through the changes
Superb lesson.
Your playing is godlike my guy
I felt that way after seeing Guthrie govan live,
witnessing literal angelic godlike playing
Incredible video. Thank you.
Very interesting and inspiring! Thanks John!
My fav intro !
Love this, John. Thank you!
This is really close to the ‘hilarious’ lick jazz musicians quote in solos
These are cool! I'm going to work on these and see if I can get out of just pentatonics.
Thanks for the lesson, John!
Cool pattern! Gonna be interesting going from diatonic to altered on dominant 7s or anything else using the pattern.
Thanks
very good lesson,,👍👍👍
Really great lesson, thank you.
Love the tune... all your stuff is awesome, but this little jam needs to find it self on a JNC album.
Wow very nice 👍 really melodic!
Great Job man
I had given up on playing legato but now I think may still be some hope.
Way cool John!
Great lesson thank you 🙏
ok, so definitely I'm gonna watch this video a couple of times haha Thanks!

There's play lists that you could just auto play and listen to while committing.
@@AmericanNationalist852 That's good, but I don't have YT premium, so I can't lock my phone then 🤣

@@AmericanNationalist852 I don't drive. By commuting I meant train, bus or walking. Mostly walking.
Sounds like "the lick" when I try doing it
That first little idea is like the anti stretchy boi of re fingering the standard 3nps!!!
Cascades!
HELLO JOHN, WHICH GUITAR DO YOU PREFER, KLINE OR PRS.?
Hi! Love your playing!❤ What gage strings do you use?
Lovely tone. I always prefer your playing when the tone is a cleaner. It’s more difficult, but much more rewarding. Just me maybe, but lead tone drenched in overdrive with bucketfuls delay/verb sounds cheap
i love this lick but its also just THE LICK over and over lol
Please! I beg of you! can I please have the delay settings for that intro?!
Nice! Do you using P4 tuning or only standard tuning?
Def Holdsworth inspired!
The intro is abit harsh when using earphones. But sounds good!
¿What rig did you use in the start fo this video?
As good as Tom Quayle is (I have two of his dvd's), I have trouble following him as he tunes to 4th's across the neck.
legato rules
Where did you get that strap?
I think i think i think. You think so?
How do you create your live loops, but then have drums on top? Is it added in post or just removed from the beginning and you're hearing drums the whole time? Do tell!
Interesting question!
he has a whole video on it, I'll try to see if I can find it and link it.
If I remember correctly, he said most times he adds the drums post.
For one think,he's a master with loopers.
drums and sometimes bass (I believe) added in post. As someone mentioned there’s at least one full video dedicated to explaining his workflow, perhaps more
Sorry Johnathan... your legato lines need NO transformation...
Have you seen Tom Quayle though?
Systematize
Hate truefire ads
The waffling is dreadful
Excellent lesson
