    I just want to remind and emphasize the importance of storing food and water, at least 1-3 months IMO. 6+ months if you can. Storing is a great insulator, and while you are doing this, I HIGHLY recommend to get a garden going and learning other skills like Canning and Dehydrating to help your food last longer, while you learn vital skills.
    Thanks for watching, and for all the comments!

      Love you for all your help and wise advice.
      People need to realize that if they have 6 months of food, that IF (and that's a big IF) it all gets better, we will not immediately go back to finding things in the stores, etc. Best to store for 2 or more years and be able to create more food, water and warmth. Everything else is secondary comforts.
      People must remember that if it all goes south, they won't need transportation for much as everyone will be in the same position and where will you go and why? To the empty store, the theater, the water park, church, etc? No one will be traveling, probably not even to work.

    Consider day to day life without a car. Even using a bus, water is heavy, and so is cat litter. One of the best tools that I have is a two wheeled collapsible metal shopping cart with rubber rimmed metal wheels. It's real metal, rugged and far superior to the plastic wheeled ones. I found it in someone's trash on garbage night and used washers to steady the wheels because the insides had actually worn down. No idea on how old this thing is, but it's probably going to outlive me.

I was watching the price of Diesel on the way down and back. The station I go to most south of Oroville, WA diesel went up 15c between the time I left and returned. 15c may not seem like much, but when the price of fuel was starting to creep down at the time I left, it was a shock to see diesel shoot up like that in two days.

    One of the things that you can do to lessen the pain is to take some steps to lower your electric bill. If your automatic washing machine has a delayed start feature, put a full load in, and set it to start and run during off-peak hours. In the east, it is between midnight and six am. Same with your dishwasher. Electricity is going to get more expensive, but it costs different amounts throughout the day. Try to get as much done during off-peak hours as you can.

    • @PracticalPreparedness
      @PracticalPreparedness  2 года назад +3

      Awesome tips. This is assuming you're on a program with your electric company that charges market price throughout the day, and not just static price. For example, my 24/7 price for a kWh was .12 cents, didn't mean anything to shift use to later in the day etc. Once I got on the Hourly Pricing plan, prices during day would be .12c and up, while night-time was as low as .04c. I know not all electric companies do this though and the ones that do you have to enroll.

    Try doing the layered garden, it's a No Dig Garden! You just need to watch a couple of RUclips videos about the No dig gardens. It's simple and it's less stress on the land because your not destroying the ground. So basically you take cardboard and make that your first layer, then I take compost from my rabbits and goats because chicken and cow manure are considered hot this means it needs to be composted fir a while. But goat and rabbit manure you can put directly on the garden. Then I take other materials like straw and pine needles and just other degrading natural things like old leaves etc .. I then water it and the next evening I take some good potting soil, make a joke in the layered garden and plant my seedlings. Then I cover with straw and water well. I'm trying also "David the Goods" methods of using perennials and annuals together! In this method the goal is to make your garden an ecosystem. You want to make areas where you attract pest predators. And you want to never plant the same kind of plant in rows Because if you do get pests they will just take off down the rows with nothing to stop them. So plant things that repel pests for instance catnip repels the tomato horn worm. And mint repels pests that attack kale cabbage carrots etc. Also like in a food Forrest there are layers, trees at the top then bushes then lower under brush plants. So I plant trees then ginger then roses to attract bees and pollinators and then lie a letters under it all. Really, just go watch the no dig garden shows and the layered shows. Saves so much time and sweat. 😂

    Major Utility Companies use "diesel run" vehicles. When there are power outages and trucks need to go out and do some troubleshooting and repair lines --- they can't get there if they have no diesel. After hurricanes, and other major storms --- Electric Companies need to get in the area and clean it up after a storm and get the power turned back on for the communities that were affected. A diesel shortage will cause those necessary repairs to take much longer which means the power outages will be extended. The Atlantic Hurricane season is from June 1st to November 30th --- just in time for the diesel shortage. Keep prepping folks.

    Since I use solar (right time of year ironically, no panic buying yet). My generator at night costs less to use with the higher price fuel than what my utilites companies are charging me, its absolutely bizarre? considering there is a new tax levy on air pollution where electric cars are supposed to replace combustion vehicles to prevent air pollution in the first place. I'm pumping out just as much air pollution saving money somewhere else to provide the cheaper energy. I can gas-convert that generator too to make it more energy efficient.

Start the pot garden or small raised bed (think potatoes for ease) but dehydrated food needs nothing really special to store for a while. Green peas along with dried beans & rice make a good high protein meal. Learn to ferment. Fermented foods add probiotics & flavor to add to dried meals. Learn everything you can about food. the deisel shortage may not be in full effect 'yet' .. scenario - most grocers are already experiencing a high number of out of stocks with NO extra freight onhand .. if the deisel shortage even cuts one delivery, there will be major out of stocks .. when people see this panic buying will go into full swing and immediate purchase limits will follow ... this could persist for weeks as fuel is redirected to resolve things .. in other words you cant get the things your used to and its a complete zoo .. i work for a major retailer and have enough supplies and the food i 'like' ahead 1 month .. i consider that bare minimum to ride through this if it goes down .. prices of course on everything WILL go up another major notch as the fuel is hauled in from other places so your actually saving money if you can afford stock up now on the things you use .. i wouldnt wait .. if this is gonna happen it will be in the next several weeks ..

      Agreed, I think it will at least be a couple/few weeks before it really starts hitting hard and prices have chance to adjust.

    How high do y’all think the average price will go? It’s around $5.49 in North Alabama.
