    Meet Tusa • Gorillas - MEET Tusa -...
    Meet Kebi • Gorillas - MEET Kebi M...
    Meet Mokolo • Gorillas - MEET Mokolo...
    Meet Freddy • Gorillas - MEET Freddy...
    ***My goal is to entertain and educate my viewers. I am not interested in blaming or embarrassing a zoo for an accident that happened 10 years ago. That is why I do not provide the name of the zoo that had the accident with Kabibi. ****
    Facts about N'neka given in video:
    Both parents born in zoos, Dad - named Mkubwa, from Cincinnati, born in 1975, Mom -named Bawang, born in 1980. N'neka spent 19 years in her first zoo, and has been in Cleveland for 6 years.
    She had her first baby when she was 14 years old. It was a girl named Kabibi. Kabibi was underweight and delivered 6 weeks early. Kabibi was raised her first 6 months by zoo staff.
    When Kabibi was 6 months old she was reintroduced to her troop. N'neka didn't want to care for her but her mom, Bawang accepted and raised that baby named Kabibi.
    When Kabibi was 16 months old she was injured in an accident at the zoo. After the zoo was closed, the gorillas were being moved to their night habitat. It was then that Kabibi was injured by a door. She passed away due to her injuries. About 3-1/2 years later N'neka was transferred to Cleveland. In October of 2021, N'neka delivered Kayembe. He was 5 weeks premature. N'neka did not raise Kayembe, Fredrika picked him up after N'neka gave birth and walked away. Fredrika has cared for Kayembe ever since.
    -In general, gorillas live 35 years in the wild. In captivity they get better food, medical care and have no predators. Life expectancy can range from 50-60 years.
    GORILLA CONSERVATION - one of the easiest things you can do to help gorillas is to recycle your cell phone or other hand held electronic device. Recycling electronics helps support gorilla conservation programs. Cell phones and other electronics contain a mineral called coltan (it is short for columbite-tantalite). Coltan is mined in areas where gorillas live. Recycling cell phones reduces the demand for coltan, which helps protect these native habitats. Some estimates report gorilla populations have declined 25% in the past 20-25 years.
    Kayembe was the first zoo born gorilla at the Cleveland Zoo.
    Kunda is the second baby born in Cleveland in less then 2 years.
    Jameela is the first baby gorilla born via c-section at the Fort Worth Zoo.
    Birthdates: Mokolo 7/10/87, Fredrika 6/5/74, Nneka 9/23/98, Kebi 1/13/91/ Tusa 12/2/89, and Kayembe 10/26/21, Kunda 7/19/23, and Jameela 1/5/24.
    The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”.

      @@larrysanimalsafariYes they were replaced all over North America, Mexico and over seas in Japan, Germany and I could go on. It really shook everyone especially zoo directors, keeper and the biggest donor’s . Since it’s all part of the conservation efforts now as well and education here and aboard, the donors wanted everyone of those type replaced with the better technology sensor’s (which is update often) and where even a little one can stop it. The complete technology is just amazing but what’s sad is it was kind of one of those crazy flaws but it wasn’t a given it would have happened. I guess what I’m trying to say is it was like a random lightning strike, very low percentage that you’ll get struck but some each year do. I’m was inspired by how much money and how quickly without being reckless they updated doors literally around the globe. So she was missed by so many people that were heartbroken but made sure it wouldn’t be in vain and everything necessary plus more was done to improve even other thing’s that wasn’t related to the cause of the accident. It broke N’neka’s Momma’s heart because remember she raised her granddaughter and they (a zoo keeper at that zoo told me this) had a baby in another zoo who needed a foster mom and her Mom accepted the baby and I heard that she was showing signs of being depressed but she was 💯 percent healthy after the foster placement. I don’t think a keeper would randomly comment and tell such if it’s not true, I just want to add where I got the information. Thanks for sharing Larry, plus you handled it so well, it was done so classy and respectfully. 🦍♥️🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏼♥️🦍

      I think just like with Kayembe, around the Jameela’s 1st birthday and maybe a week or two before Freddy will let her start playing with N’neka. Kebi might wait until Freddy let’s Jameela play before she lets Kunda play as well.
      What’s fun to watch is Momolo will absolutely watch N’neka and the babies playing for about a week, he makes sure no one is going ti mistreat his babies,it’s so adorable and to see him (all 400 lbs) of him watching every move to make sure his babies are safe is something to be hold. If he thinks your being to ruff, then he’d hit a piece of metal real loud and sometimes beat.his chest.
      Anyway I can’t wait till N’neka gets to play with the little ones. She loves to play but she doesn’t like the idea of being a dull time mother and that’s okay (they have different personalities just as we do) her MaMa loved raising her precious first baby girl and after she just left Kayembe (being six weeks early and she was probably in pain) which is why she just left baby Kay on the ground because she had already made clear she didn’t have maternal skills. So Freddy walked over and starts.taken care of baby 6:56 , even started spontaneous lactation so she could Brest feed him.Freddy’s even nursing Jameela, along with extra soy supplement feed through the mesh to insure the babies are getting plenty of nutrients and vitamins.

    I hate seeing animals in cages! Once animals are born in cages, they would never survive in the wild. Dogs and cats were once wild animal and now all are domesticated. Yes I love dogs but have never locked one in a cage. My dog sleeps next on a big puffy pillow above my head. He guys every were with me and we treat him like a kid.

      I would like them to live freely also. Unfortunately, there are people who are destroying their homes (habitat). Zoos provide an alternative that allows many of us to see, learn and help take steps to help other conservationist protect the free ones. Traveling to those countries to do “that work” is just something I cannot do.

    I love your videos! In an earlier video you said Freddy doesn’t like Nneka. Do the keepers know why this may be?

    • @larrysanimalsafari
      @larrysanimalsafari  3 месяца назад +2

      Not sure what the keepers think, but I’ve watched Freddy . When N’neka comes anywhere near her she scoops up Jameela and stares at N’neka the entire time. Or she moves away immediately. Hopefully this changes soon.

    • @mortalclown3812

      @larrysanimalsafari
      One commentator said Nneka took Jameela for several minutes
      once and that Mokolo even looked concerned. Freddie got her back very quickly, but that would definitely explain her 'side eye' at Kayembe's mom.

    What is up with Freddy not wanting to have N'neka near her? Does anyone know what happened to cause this rift?

    • @larrysanimalsafari
      @larrysanimalsafari  3 месяца назад

      Could it be… N’neka gave birth to a baby and didn’t take care of it?

      @@larrysanimalsafari Interesting. Unlike lower animals, where alliances and battles are all about just carrying genes forward and obtaining food, we Great Apes have nuanced relationships; capable of both altruism and grudges.
      Has there always been an issue between those two?

    Eu fiquei triste, é dificil ler sobre o bebê e não se emocionar, ficp nervosa com a família Momotaro na hora de entrar, é necessário paciência para esperar os gorilas quando entrar e sair, acredito que de alguma forma N'Neka ficou abalada, espero que com o tempo ela se torne mais maternal para o Kayembe.
