Congrats!! WotC won't be getting any money from me directly anymore, but independent creators and contributors like you help keep all of it alive, and I'll happily support you in your work...even if WotC gets a slice of the pie, too. Bringing new players into the Greyhawk we know and love, teaching them how to play things old-school (but with with a modern twist) is hopefully going to be great for our favorite setting, and help it flourish. Keep on keeping the faith, brother - we've got your back!
I too often long for the human-centric feel of Greyhawk, but the younger crowds love the diversity of 5e. The thought of playing typical 'monster' species doesn't appeal to me personally.
I'm generally of the same mindset (thinking of it kind of like a "Middle-earth in the 4th Age"), though I'll often wonder _how_ the more monstrous races could be adapted, like perhaps tying warforged into the "City of the Gods" in someway.
@@Amesang I think anything can be adapted, that is the beauty of TTRPGs in general. You could have an entire party of PC dragons, i.e. Wings of Fire in D&D... would I want to run that table? no. But perhaps that appeals to other GMs and I say go for it, just not for me.
I'm surprised you'd think that people would give you grief about this. It warmed my heart when I saw that you were going this way. We'll need your voice out there where all the new fans can hear it and get a feeling for how Greyhawk should be played to stay true to Gygax's original vision for it. To counterbalance whatever WOTC is going to put out there, which is probably going to be overrun with tieflings, dragonborn, and jolly "good" Orcs! LOL Like you said in your newest video, "whatever is good for Greyhawk is good, and if incidentally it's good for WOTC as well, so be it."
You're the man! I just ran and bought a PDF copy. YOU'RE the reason I'm all in on Greyhawk. I can't thank you enough for all your outstanding work. YOU keep Greyhawk alive for us! Will there be a print on demand? I'd love to have this in my library!
I have always appreciated your work and I thank you for providing this resource for Dm's who are newer to the hobby like me. I love Greayhawk and I am excited to see what grows from this. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much. Grayhawk was the first world I ever played in and dmd in you have my full support. I love hard copies but for you I would purchase PDFs and downloads.
In recent WOTC videos and podcasts Chris Perkins states quite succinctly that they don't want to publish any new official material set in Greyhawk because they want DMs to feel free to make Greyhawk their own. A good objective and feels very in line with what Gygax often advocated in his "advice to DMs" in his TSR-published Greyhawk adventures and setting. Perkins also gives a caveat that if there were massive demand for additional Greyhawk material, WOTC would be foolish not to consider creating it. I'm hoping they'll just point players to DMs Guild and DriveThru RPG and let that be the 'sandbox source' so to speak.
Congratulations. I'll definitely take a look at it. I run a 3.5 game and have started running the old Living Greyhawk adventures when I'm missing too many players to run my main game, currently Verbobonc and Keoland.
It's a solid book. Unlike you, I've embraced 5th edition and don't have super strong feelings about the old school rulesets (lore is another story tho) and I especially love the 2024 books and their use of older characters from the early 80s that got abandoned like Warduke and Ringlerun and the others, and was stoked to hear about Greyhawk in it, and this book works well to bring most of the gold box info that's actually useful and relevant to modern campaigns into a nice 128 page Gazetteer style book. I think stylistically it fits well with the more modern books and other Greyhawk related DM's guild titles that are out there now and can recommend it, and I'm glad you didn't try to resist the changes they made (Arn, etc) which would have just led to confusion. So, good job.
I wanted to buy Adventures Dark and Deep for my upcoming holiday play but I can't buy the new books yet and all the old books are gone, even on friggin Ebay! Grats on the book!
This, and the Players Guide you produced I have purchased. Intend to integrate and supersede aspects in the 2024 DMG. If it's Greyhawk, I feel it needs an aspect of authenticity to it.
That's why I cherish my _Living Greyhawk Gazetteer,_ if for no other reason than because it's 99% lore (I think the only mechanics are money, deity domains, and NPC class levels?).
Did you choose DM’S Guild vs drive thru because of the potential for more exposure? Would the material regardless of the tie in to 5th edition be a good addition to 1st edition content?
Because Greyhawk is intellectual property owned by Wizards of the Coast, the DMs Guild is the only legal option available for independent creators to publish Greyhawk material.
I was in the middle of applying some of the subclasses on your website to my foundry game.... now it's not available anymore? and I gotta pay for it... man I do get it but I would have appreciated more of a heads up

Reason being, WoTC version of Spelljammer/Planescape looks nice yet are missing key portions of what came before...and suspect even though New races in the current iteration of D&D, something fundamentally will be missing or changed. I’m curious if you had to rename any of the nations to align with the new names on the 2024 Greyhawk map (eg removing Rovers, Barbarians, and Caliphates) Also do we know what starting year DMG 2024 is establishing for this latest Greyhawk setting?
I actually included both names, so folks who only know the setting from the new DMG know what I'm referring to, but still get the old-school flavor. The new DMG is set in 576, and that's where I placed my book as well.
