    I have been playing for over 30 years and always struggled with theory. This lesson was great for me. The way you taught this was excellent. Kind of like teaching theory without being burdened by the theory. TYVM! Please do more

      I agree. I’d always quit guitar because instructors would shove theory down my throat day 1. I finally met one that asked what song I wanna learn and he had me playing it in less than 2 days. Now that it’s been going on for awhile, I’m ready for theory because I feel all absorb it better.

    Really approachable and clear explanation! I love sus2 chords when I play open chords, like a Dsus2 or a Csus2, for instance. I never thought about using them higher up the neck. I’m not great with barre chords (work in progress- it’s my disabled hands that make them tough with weak muscles), but I am great with weird shapes because I like jazz style chords. Thanks for the inspiration to give sus2 chords (and other sus chords, for that matter) a try higher up the neck.
    Btw, if someone can’t do it higher up the neck, it can be done in the first few frets as I’ve been doing for a long time - it’s sometimes easier to take a D chord and remove a finger off the high e to create a Dsus2 if someone is having trouble higher up. It’ll still sound similar enough in a lower register and work just as well as an accommodation of sorts! Hope this idea helps anyone who might struggle higher up the neck. This way you can keep jamming as you work on the more complicated chord shape higher up. 🎸🤘🏻😎

    So glad I came across this video. I used Sus 2 chords a lot and didn’t even know that’s what they were but I agree, they just add a nice flavor to power chords that work great in rock and metal plus you can mix them with standard power chords easily.

    Love sus2. Being influenced by nu metal and post grunge it quickly became my favourite chords for open ambient ambiguous sounds.
    Now thanks to Rabea I also like doing major and minor thirds off of the g string. Going the opposite way if you were to do it on the D

    This was actually really helpful. I hadn’t thought much about it, but your explanation made a lot of sense to view 9 as the octave of 2 just as 8 is the octave of 1. A chord being a 1/3/5 so add a 9 to that making it an add9 also really helped me out. Thank you, & I would definitely watch more lesson videos from you!

    I've got an okay understanding of theory and I'm only halfway through the video so far, but they way you explained why it's a sus2 vs some sort of 9 really put some pieces together for me. Theory has all of these idiosyncrasies for why things are called whet they're call and it often amounts to simple concepts. It sucks when people try to explain theory babble with other theory babble. Thanks for your clear explanation.

    Right when I saw the heading for this video. I knew what it was bro!!!!🤘 I call them double power cords? Not sure if people understand it but I'm sure they do. A double power cord most of the time when I slide up to them I hit the power cord and add the pinky real quick😅 They are easy chords to play and they have a lot of articulation but seriously bro that's what I thought right when I saw this I said he's going to play the double power chord Floods from Pantera comes to mind and the band King's X. They use them quite a bit and I'm sure there's tons of other bands. Great video Thanks for the info It made complete sense..... Peace bruh😎

    Great video Xander… question… why is the word “suspended” used. I get that the third not being there is the reason it’s not an add9, but what is the deal with this word suspended. Why couldn’t it be called an add2 or something. To think of a chord being “suspended” makes me think something is in the chord that shouldn’t be and is thus hanging out there, or suspended out there…

  • @korayem

    • @SamBrockmann
      @SamBrockmann 22 дня назад +2

      Errrrr, no. "Major 2nd" is an interval. A major chord has a root, a major 3rd, and a 5th. When we use either a major 2nd or a major 4th (instead of a major or minor 3rd), it becomes "suspended". Thus, a root, a major 2nd, and a 5th is a "suspended 2nd" or "sus2" chord.
