  • This is really the first ride in Ecuador of this new season and I am so happy to be back on the road. I decide to ride from Quito to Mindo Valley - a relatively short ride through the mountains, to get used to the new bike, the set up and the country. The scenery is so lush and green, it's incredible and Mindo is one of the cutest towns I've seen!

As a kid growing in Quito, I took my four wheeler down that same path to Mindo. I was 13 and having the time of my life away from parents and school. Now I live in Florida USA and I miss the mountains.......these images made me tear up a little bit.

I've been staying with my 85 year old mother who has been fighting cancer for 7 years and is slowly getting worse. I set aside this time to stay with her to keep her at home as long as possible and have no regrets in doing this for her. It is confining though and I"m used to being out so for me that part is difficult but small compared to what she's going through. All that to say that i happened upon your channel not long after you started your tour of southern Africa and followed it through the end of the rally and season 5. I am thrilled that you're back on the road again and really looking forward to your travels through the Americas. I spent almost a year there in the late 1980's working on a dairy improvement project that took me to the northern border with Colombia south to Riobamaba and Baños and loved almost every minute of it (did get caught in the middle of a couple of protests in Quito and was tear gassed!). Next year marks my 45th anniversary of riding motorcycles. I've had some people early on say, "Do you have a death wish or something?" In reality, it's 180 degrees backwards. They don't understand the absolute joy of riding, like the joy you displayed in the mountains. The sun pops out, temperature is not hot, not cool, just perfect for riding. That's when the joy soars! Noraly, with respect, I feel compelled to mention that, just as 2% milk is not better quality than 0% (it just has more of a certain ingredient) a higher octane gas does NOT indicate better quality. It is a popular misconception regarding octane that ''higher = better.'' Everyone should use the octane level that their particular motor was engineered to use. Using too high of an octane can cause engine knock or worse! Keep up the inspiring journey. Happy trails!

Narrow winding roads, Lush green mountains and fabulous scenery, all of this reminds me of my native state "HIMACHAL PRADESH" in INDIA. Even the traffic was familiar(INDIAN manufactued automobiles are gaining traction in SOUTH AMERICA I guess).
It feels like a "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" to me.
Watching NORALY'S videos can be so informative, relaxing and nostalgic(for me) at the same time.

I spent 20 yrs as an over-the-road Truck Driver and have seen millions of miles setting on top of an 80,000 lbs. big rig. You do it on a DIRT BIKE - OMG! You always get down. Think about getting a big GS or AT up the stairs… That is almost impossible. And it can become much of this stuff. So a smaller bike on a travel like this, is always better. Bigger bike is only better in higher speed on the highway.

I think is odd that they would price fuel in dollars and Imperial gallons.)
