@@BaldManJapannever forget you're on the opposite side of the world, be in awe, be present. Don't stay cooped in doing teacher things and watching anime, go out as much as you can. Festivals and tourist attracts are beautiful and go to as many as you can (Onsens are to die for) but wander sometimes, you'll find the most beautiful things when you're not looking for them There are so many mountains so much nature it kinda hits you like shell shock. Make sure to get a rail pass and if u want a car apply for an international drivers licence. Memorise hiragana and katakana first then work through kanji by how often they're used. Your japanese will improve by how much you put into it, make sure to make lots of friends, and talk to people in japanese as much as possible, not being afraid to sound stupid (big tip is to do everything in japanese: japanese books, movies in japanese with japanese subtitles). the food is cheap and I would die to go back for it so don't worry (don't get konbini every day lol). Spring is stunning until the rainy season so go out n have fun, summers are a hot sticky mess, autumn is perfection and winter is nippy but the snow is worth it. Just have fun living man P.S getting things like bank cards for foreigners is usually quite a hassle so be ready P.S.S don't stress about those stupid etiquette videos just don't be a knob, be a normal polite human and you'll be fine. that flight is not fun at all lol but once you land notice how the sky and air feels and smells different, its weird.
