Utterly great Bach playing - thank you for posting this. Also nice sound - I like to hear the little noises they keys make but it's not intrusive and seems a very natural, bright, ringing Nyckelharpa sound.
Oh mon Dieu c'est fabuleux...vous avez un talent immense! Ce prélude pour violoncelle de J.S. Bach à la nickel harpa est tout simplement sublime! Merci
I thought to myself (after listening to some other nyckelharpa music) "Well, I wonder how Bachs Cello Prelude would sound on a nyckelharpa..." and here you are playing so wonderfully! Splendid!
Viva Bach! That was beautiful. And what an intriguing instrument. Haunting sound. Definitely not the same old same old. So here's a violin video response 4 U. (Hope you like my own unconventional approach to this venerable melody.) Play on!
My dad build a nyckelharpa 20 years ago which I now have started to take great intrest in. :) This piece is absolutley wonderful indeed, and I hope that I can play this well some day as well. ^^
Only seen this Instrument once ever (outside of Riot Games) went to a concert of unique instruments at Carnegie Hall. Probably among one of the coolest ever made!
Absolutely amazing! The bow looks a little short. I wonder if a viola bow would produce an even better sound than it already has. Anyway, I'm blown away, both by the surprisingly beautiful sound of the instrument, and by the excellent performance.
hello torbjorn, We are here all together at burg fursteneck with the nyckelharpa advanced class. we have watched and listened your video and we like it very much greetings Didier, Ron, Andrea, Christoph, Astrid, Rudolf, Katharina, Johannes, karin.
Ok I came to know this instrument through stupid ways, but I love both its sound and the suite you chose, so I'm compelled to drop an upvote (and go damn vocal about it).
there are four major strings. 3 strings are keyed and the lowest and fourth key is a bordune. the rest of the strings (15 or so) are there for creating resonance and the depth and harmonic space that makes the sound of a nyckelharpa :) you can tune these stings in a certain pattern depending on main key of the nyckelharpa and on the music that you are going to play.
It depends. It is tuned to CGCA, low to high, with the low C being a rarely used drone string, and the high A is pitched like the A string of a violin. When you're playing in first or second position on the A string, you can do double stops with the high C string, but if you go higher than that it gets difficult. On the G and C strings, double stopping is very frequent when playing traditional swedish music.
Dear art directors and teachers! Charitable Foundation named after Tlep Aspantayuly is held the I International competition for young musicians on bowed string folk instruments (including nyckelharpa, jouhikko, talharpa and others)from 9th to 10th of September 2016 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The contest is held in age category from 9 to 19 years. For more information, check out the official page: www.kobyz2016.kz
Agreed. This was MADE for baroque music. I stumbled into this instrument (I play guitar) looking at Joe Bonamassa's site. One of his band members plays this. Is there nykelharpa which doesn't 'clack' audibly when the keys (or whatever they're called) are pressed. Or is that part of the charm? I loved the sound of it, but the clicking got annoying.
Well, with this instrument, it's almost every note. The string noise from an acoustic guitar is only on the E and D strings for the most part and it's less frequent. That said, since the time of my first comment I've enjoyed a few videos of this instrument. And the clacking IS part of the charm. :-)
Jack D. Ripper Yes, the clicking is part of the charm :) But the amount of clicking also depends on the instruments. Some harpas click less than others, but I've never encountered a harpa that doesn't click at all. My harpa doesn't click a lot and I've seen plenty harpas that have more audible clicks. But I actually think my harpa could click a bit more, it's almost too little ;) It also seems to be possible to get rid of the clicking with some studio magic (there are some Nyckelharpa CDs were you practically don't here any clicking). I think that's the wrong way to go, since I think that the clicking is an integral part of the harpa, but oh well...
Yes! Great work! Very FLOWING, the way that it surely ought to be. And what a fascinating and beautiful tone on a unique instrument. Not the same old same old... I hope you like my video response. It represents less than three years of playing. All self-taught. Isn't that a hoot? Be well and play on!
Hey, guys, it's Nyckelbach lol

Utterly great Bach playing - thank you for posting this. Also nice sound - I like to hear the little noises they keys make but it's not intrusive and seems a very natural, bright, ringing Nyckelharpa sound.

Enar Magnusson have made the instrument. He is the best and has also the best price. Good combination!!!
Oh mon Dieu c'est fabuleux...vous avez un talent immense! Ce prélude pour violoncelle de J.S. Bach à la nickel harpa est tout simplement sublime! Merci

You played it wonderful!!
I thought to myself (after listening to some other nyckelharpa music) "Well, I wonder how Bachs Cello Prelude would sound on a nyckelharpa..." and here you are playing so wonderfully! Splendid!
I feel that something is added to the music by the clicking of the keys. Something very beautiful. This is very good.
Absolut utmärkt. 5 stjärnor.
Hälsningar från barockmusiälskare i Finland
It just resonates so beautifully!
I have never seen this unique instrument. Nice Bach indeed.
Fantastic. That was A-MAZING!!!
Very nice distinctive sound, Bach's Cello suite works great with the Nyckelharpa.
Magnifikt!
Viva Bach! That was beautiful. And what an intriguing instrument. Haunting sound. Definitely not the same old same old. So here's a violin video response 4 U. (Hope you like my own unconventional approach to this venerable melody.)

Cool. It’s like a violin and hurdy gurdy.
Wonderful! Great Henrician sound. Me like.
I mean the instrument has a Henrician sound. I know Bach lived and composed later.
Mycket fint! Plockade min nyckelharpa som min farfar byggde åt mig. Har inte rört den på ett tiotal år, men det är nog dags att ta upp det igen!
Only seen this Instrument once ever (outside of Riot Games) went to a concert of unique instruments at Carnegie Hall. Probably among one of the coolest ever made!
Amazing!!!Stunning !!!! I play the cello and as u already know this piece is written for cello! And you play it WONDERFUL!Great Job matey!!

Very well done, absolutely wonderful :)
I like the Nyckelharpa, I think that I met this soloist in Umeå 4 years ago, if he is from Umeå that means yes he is, fantastic playing.
Brilliant idea! I think Bach would have liked it.
Beautiful... makes the soul warm ^^ ♥
Coolt, om man ändå kunde spela som du. Du har min respekt.
Found this video by coincidence. VERY NICE! I've never heard of this instrument before, but it sounds good. Of course Bach is always good also :-)
I love it !!! Greetings from Poland :)
Es una de las versiones más maravillosas que eh escuchado :)
Absolutely amazing! The bow looks a little short. I wonder if a viola bow would produce an even better sound than it already has.
Anyway, I'm blown away, both by the surprisingly beautiful sound of the instrument, and by the excellent performance.
Du inspirerar mig att vilja börja lära mig spela nyckelharpa.

Gorgeous. Very well done.
*sigh* can't believe people actually clicked the dislike button for this... Goodjob :)
Very Very nice.. good job.
Very interesting! I've never heard baroque/classical music performed on the nyckelharpa! Sounds great :)

Consider the 'clack' as like the 'scratch' on the guitar that you get as you move the fingers up and down the fretboard quickly
