Was Moving To YouTube Streaming A Mistake?

  • In November of 2022, I stopped streaming on Twitch in favor of RUclips Streaming, I lost 150 Avg Viewers, roughly 400 Paid monthly Subscribers, about $1500 a month, and benefits that most Twitch Partners wish they got, and will never get.
    So, was this a mistake?
I am breaking this video up into four parts, ya know the classic storytelling four-act structure, starting with everything I lost by moving, then so I don’t cry, I’ll cover what I’ve gained, answer the reason you clicked, aka whether you should move, and finally deciding, was this a mistake?

    How To Grow On Twitch?
If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.
But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!
Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

How To Become More Confident As A Streamer:
If you want to have zero fear of failing while you practice, what I want you to do is get your phone out or sit down at your webcam, don’t prepare any notes or stories to tell just hit record and start filming yourself, and I want you to talk for 10 minutes without stopping, without a chat to help you. Just talk and try to be entertaining by yourself.
Finish your 10 minutes, but DO NOT watch it back right away. Close your phone, go about your day, and then the next day, sit down, watch back those 10 minutes on your phone without any distractions. Just watch yourself, and then when the 10 minutes is done, hit record and film another 10 minutes. Don’t watch it, until the next day then rinse and repeat.
Repeat this process daily, not only will you become a much more confident speaker, but you’ll find it becomes much easier to fill those 10 minutes.
This is crucial that you learn to become entertaining without a chat, because often if you need a chat to be entertaining then you aren’t actually entertaining.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

@RayOSunshine98 right!? Hats off to all the other streamers.. it’s a lot of work! Especially when you have a few disabilities like myself. All these guides are driving me a little crazy though.. 2-months in and not much growth from these guides.. I’m convinced that they want to mislead us so that we don’t grow and they get to hog all the viewers.. before they wanted me to stream on Twitch, then RUclips, then Twitch.. 😣. Although I’m about to die from poverty, the 5 or 6 loyal viewers that come to every single stream are filling my heart with joy. Gosh this is just such a strong passion and hope that after 2-years of tragedy.. just hope this can finally workout and end all the pain.

Love this transparency, thank you for being clear that streaming doesn’t necessarily translate to video views and vice versa. I’m learning both at the moment and the shock that the two require VERY different skills has been very scary. I’m not driven away by it, but it was shocking. It’s nice to hear someone’s else’s perspective who I respect quite a lot

So glad I decided to sit down and watch this today. I've noticed a lot of benefits of being over on this platform that I wasn't getting on others. I think it really depends on the person, their audience, and their content on whether or not switching is right for them. Personally, I am the happiest I've ever been with content creation on RUclips. And when you utilize everything YT gives us, I personally feel there isn't a better match!

Been having a lot of conversations with the homies recently about how little lasting impact we feel streams have and that it can feel creatively frustrating to put in a lot of work and planning into a stream for 15-20 people to show up and never have anything further stem from it. RUclips's ecosystem is really powerful *IF* you utilize it and your time to the fullest potential. Hard to juggle that time but it doesn't mean its not worthwhile to start building it up.

RUclips ain't easy. The grinding is real on RUclips. Livestreaming on RUclips is way different than Twitch. With RUclips, you must put in a lot of work, do short and long form content plus you need to be creative with unique thumbnails etc...But RUclips is still a great platform. Content on YT doesn't expire which is so darn awesome.😂

I don't see a reason to not be on every platform especially since each platform has an image. The image of RUclips is medium length videos. The image of Tiktok is short videos. The image of Twitch is long videos.
People go to these platforms for different reasons. I think it's also easier to rank on Twitch since it's merely a list in descending order meaning as long as the "pond" you are trying to be a fish in isn't absurdly large, you can at least appear on the front page of the listed channels.
I decided to remain on Twitch because Twitch is still the meta for streaming as in Twitch is still seen as "the" place for streaming video games, but I still upload VODs to RUclips, and I still have my primary channel that is focused on shorter guides and tiktok style shorts.
I really like what Asmongold is doing with his reaction based "AsmongoldTV" and "Asmongold Clips" where he has almost like a talk show for his rants and reactions and stupid moments.
I think segregating your content into separate channels that viewers can sub to and predict what sort of content they're going to see is a good idea for the YT algorithm.

while I can see and agree with some of your points it seem like this is more of a video about becoming a youtuber instead of a streamer. I know that making content out side of streaming can aid in growth but, if you do streaming cause you like streaming but then spend 90 percent of your time being a youtuber dose that not defeat the purpose. I only say this cause I know people that like streaming but don't like making edited content. Also as a viewer saying people who just chat with the chat are boring and bad content is in my opion wrong cause I don't like watching overly produced streams that have a lot of gimmicks. I some times hop into those kind of streams and for a sec I am like oh this is cool and soon after loose interest cause the feeling is off. Most of the people I like to watch for long periods of time are the people who are relatable and can feel like I am just hanging out with a friend. I mean this is what I think but it seams to me that what you like is making edited content for youtube and also that's what you like to watch and add some of those biases to the way you go about thinking what a streamer should be. I mean there are a lot of people who are successful on all levels of streaming not by making elaborate content but by learning how to be personable and a entertaining person to hang out with.

A few things to note on that:
      1. VoDs still expire even if it’s meant for RUclips content
      2. Followers while streaming won’t go watch my RUclips
      3. RUclips subscribers aren’t likely to head to twitch.
So by streaming on RUclips, and then using that footage to make a video, I not only build a library of VoDs for viewers, but I also don’t try make my viewers leave one platform, for another, and instead all of my content works together.
But I said most of this in the video.

14:52 No, as a former RUclips streamer that averaged about 50-80 viewers a stream in 2017 and 2018, those views are counted from the different people that clicked on your stream vod after the stream AND ALSO clicked on the stream while you were live. It's like what twitch does now after a stream, you see the amount of total views that the stream got while you were live as well as from the vod itself. I can tell you this because right after I ended a stream, my vod would be at around 800 views, and would only go up a little after that from people watching some of the good speedruns I had that night, and I know for a fact no one is going to watch a 4 hour vod of me resetting every 3 minutes, let alone 800 people lmao.

No :) this isn’t what I’m referring too, I am specifically referring to an extra offline 1000 views.
Just because nobody watches you, doesn’t mean people didn’t go and watch mine.
I understand how the platforms work, and thanks to my discovery with shorts and videos I had an extra 1000 after that stream was over.

My grand father passed away and I had to attend the funeral, so how about you take seat and don’t comment about people’s Appearance.

That’s what the entire video is about? I literally talk about how I am glad I left and got those views? I have never read a comment so completely missing the point of the entire video.

Hey #earlygang! I've been asked a lot if leaving Twitch was a mistake, and I wanted to cover my decision a few months later, have you considered moving at all?
