I can say for me (a slow runner),the Super Blast has been great for the marathon distance. Bonus being discounted prices and it will last through training.
@@EDDBUDa lot of people are suspecting that ASICS may just do that. Imho the Superblast is a super shoe. A different type of super shoe. I would argue that ASICS kind of quietly innovated a new type of super shoe with the Superblast.
Another Elite convert after just a few runs in them 💚💚 It is an amazing shoe that has finally started to get the recognition that it deserves in recent months. It just feels so good to run in. I'll definitely snap up a 2nd pair to race in if they ever tumble in price on the release of some newer Saucony shoes.
I’m doing Abingdon in three weeks and will be in a pair of the OG pink Vaporfly Next %. I’ve tried several of the newer super shoes but nothing beats that original Vaporfly next % for me yet over the marathon distance. For a half I’d go for the Takumi Sen 9
Since I also run very slowly in competitions, my main concern is stability (not a sole that is too narrow), weight and yet comfort. The best for me so far is the endorphin speed 3.
@@EDDBUD that´s right. I ran 32km in the Noosa 15 and they almost felt better. but I was afraid that they would be too firm for me over 42 km. Your video came at exactly the right time. Maybe the puma or hoka is exactly what I'm looking for.
Broke in my Alfafly 2's EK edition yesterday on my 22 mile long run....No issues at all on the maiden voyage with them at all...Love them! Although AF 1'S are my favourite! Here's hoping the AF 3's are as good 👍 🙏 great content as always Eduardo ❤
I looked for you in Berlin Ed! I ran Boston 2023 and just ran Berlin in the Saucony Endorphin Elite - I do believe a shoe fits the gait and speed for a runner so these work perfectly for me. I run a 5:20 / km pace and these are by far my favourites!! Love your reviews Ed!!! Thanks!
Puma Fast R is amazing and you can heel lock the bootie upper. Nike Alphafly can learn from Puma... Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2 is a training shoe and seems to die half way through. Endorphin Pro 3 is so comfortable and safe choice. I do get BEST results in the Adidas Pro 3.. Numbers don't lie 🎉
I gotta say, the saucony endorphin elite really is at the top top level, its the most aggresive shoe that has ever been on the market. Im talking aggresive to the roof people! This shoe is pb material. but I got my eyes on that puma fast r nitro elite. looks like a banger 😎😤🤌🏽🔥
Very good takes. I’m going to use the Endorphin Elite in Chicago next weekend. Here are my top 5: 1: Endorphin Elite 2: Rocket X 2 3: Vaporfly 3 4: Endorphin Pro 3 5: Adios Pro 3 Honorable mention: Metaspeed Edge+ I use the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 for workouts though.
Should be a nice shoe. Hopefully a big improvement over the Pro 3 which is still a nice shoe and one which I wish that I had added at least another pair to my rotation after running 800+ miles in my two pairs of them.
great overview, its so true that every shoe works a bit differently for different people, going more into recommendations for different types of runners adds so much more value than claiming what the "best" shoe would be.
I've run my marathons in Adios Pro V.1, Endorphin Speed 2, Vaporfly Next% 2 and Alphafly Next% 1 so far. Got my next marathon in two weeks (dodgy thigh not withstanding) and considering Adios Pro 3 and Vaporfly Next% 3.
I recently dug my adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2 shoes from storage and after running in them for a few miles was like, "why did I stop running in these?" Certainly the Prime X was the primary reason but honestly, these are much better than I remember. And they have the preferable lacing (versus the Pro 3). Even in the original version of the Prime X (the only version I like; the Strung just doesn't work for me), I really don't love the loop lace thingies. I'm looking for my next shoe and if the Pro 4 has the same lacing, I may have to give the Saucony Endorphin Elite a try.
I absolutely love my Adios Pro 2's. So much so that I picked up another 2 pairs when on offer for £90 recently. I now use those or my original Prime X's (3 pairs of those!) for almost all my runs as combined they cover so many bases. Currently on over 750km for the Pro 2 & 700km for the Prime X. And they still feel great!
I started competitive running in 1979, I had super legs and terrible shoes. Now, in 2023, I have super shoes and terrible legs. I cannot run marathons nowadays ... but if I had to choose a shoe it would be the alphafly.
This is the choice I think people make on the alpha. It’s total overkill for me on a normal run. But for a marathon it might well save me late on. As long as I’ve got the wider arch insole!
Get yourself on the hills round Sheffield! Eyam Half, Sheffield Half, The Big Dipper…. Yyyyyum and if you haven’t had a go at the Round Sheffield Run multi-stager, you haven’t lived yet 😀
Great crowds at Sheffield. Nice views at the top too. The weekend before the Manchester marathon which I’m aiming at. Might sneak it in but will have to try very hard not to go full monster if I do 😂
I have been practicing using the superblast for my HM pace. And as a noob runner, its a good shoe if you know you don’t want to spend on a Marathon shoe or feel like you’re not good enough for one.
Did a 3 mile test run in the deviate nitro elite 2, will be doing a 20 miler tomorrow. It felt pretty propulsive to me but I'm relatively inexperienced with most of the other shoes on this list. Marathon pace in low 8s, easy run in mid 8s to low 9s.
I know it's not a supershoe, but trumps to the Deviate Nitro 2. Super comfortable and very responsive. I'll be wearing those at the Chester Marathon pacing duties. Hope to see you in Manchester - You should get a good time on that, it's pancake 🙌
I have raced in all of them and the only one that hasn't given up the forefoot cushioning is the hoka rocket x2..#2 would be the alphafly v2..the most comfortable of all is the puma fastr..the only thing keeps it from top spot is enough forefoot cushioning..otherwise it's the best fitting shoe I ever owned..truly fits like a fine deerskin leather driving glove..
I'm running the Chicago Marathon next weekend, and have had groin strain (Adductor longus) for two weeks. Having testet all the Nike, Saucony, Adidas and Asics carbon racers I've got (got too many really!!!) I have concluded that it is either the Saucony Endorphin Elite (it is a little hard in the heel) or the Adidas Prime X (1) Strung (Each show is 58 grams heavier the Elite). Testing today I ran a faster and easier 5K with less pain in the Prime X - but the question is: Which one should I pick - If my legs take it I would choose Saucony Elite, if my legs could bear it for 42K I would choose the Prime X Strung. Important events. Hard choices. Tough life.. well... no, not really! 🙂
Awesome review as always Edd! I have decided to use the Elites for my marathon next week. Since I first strapped them on, I knew these were the ones that would provide me my best race possible. You are spot on in your review of the shoe, along with the review of the Saucony Pro 3 that I do own as well. I will definitely share my thoughts after the race and can't wait to experience my first marathon. Stay safe and healthy! Thanks again for all your running shoe insights and music interludes (those are always enjoyed!). Take care! 🙋
Not a super elite runner but doing faster speeds for my age 40s and build (larger muscular runner) and just love the adios pro 3 foam and stability and durability solid for the category. Upper doesn’t bother me but I understand the issues . Hope Adidas keeps making equal shoe with slight upper improvements.
Thank you for highlighting the arch issue in the Alphafly V2, I’m scared to use mine. Terrible shoe to waste, trying new insoles soon but not risking wrecking my feet with them again before Cardiff and Manchester halfs. Vaporfly 2 for those.
Ed, great video! I'm running my first marathon (Amsterdam) in a couple of weeks and am just coming back from pes anserine bursitis... I've had to change my marathon pace, so will target 4:55 per km. Thoughts on Nike vaporfly next%2 vs Asics Superblast? Cheers and keep up the great work; many of my running friends are now midsole experts! 😂
Good luck in Amsterdam. Last years Amsterdam marathon was my first one! Lovely and flat with perfect weather. I wore next %2s and for me they hold up like no other. If you have them, use them and don’t think twice! My pace in my that race was 5:10 p/km, so they will protect you well to reach your target. Whatever you decide, hope you smash it!
I have the experience only with two pairs from this video: Pro 3 from Saucony and adidas. And my feelings are 180 degrees different. Three stripes brand works way much better for me than Saucony: I feel zero propulsion in Saucony and their upper fit is quite odd for me. I tried to fix it using the socks with the different cushion level without any success.
I’ve ran 2 in the Saucony I feel that with the propulsion I don’t feel much any propulsion, I’m looking to run a sub 3 to qualify for Boston this year looking the best shoe
I'm 1 week out from my first HM, cant decide between the adios pro 3 or the superblast. Had an amazing run yesterday in the adidas so it's even closer now! I would love to pick up the endorphin pro but they never go on sale in Australia.
I’d have alphafly or vaporfly for my top pick’s The uppers really work for me Then I’d pick between metaspeed sky plus and adios pro 3. The metaspeed is the faster pick for me but maybe a little firm for long distance and the adios is safer pick but not racey enough for me I really like the feeling underfoot of saucony pro 3 but the upper does not work for me, even going up a full size there wasn’t enough width in the toe box for me and the rest of shoe is too big I just recently got a the saucony endorphin elite on sale so haven’t run in it yet but toe box seems better then endorphin pro 3 so hopefully il be able to use it
Ed - I’ve seen the Hoka Rocket X for under £100. Is this worth a punt over the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 which I can get for under £140? Buying my first plated shoe and after this video you’ve got me thinking about Hoka. Just bought the Mach 5 and love it
Its where you can feel the road through the shoe. If a foam is to soft for the amount of weight or force you're putting into it, it stops being cushioned as it bottoms out to the hard surface. It does depend on any distance run.
As Chris mentions below the foam starts to loose that same rebound and doesn’t perhaps recover as fast as it did earlier in a run. Leaves you feeling a bit exposed perhaps to the road or like you wished there was some more cushion there
I really like to watch your videos😁even if im amateur runner, but when i buy some shoes just give me motivation for workouts👌 Where would you put vaporflys 2 in which place beetwen these shoes? Would you run full marathon in vp2?
I still choose the AF 1, if tryed the AF2 all 3 versions of the VF and the adios pro 3 but for me the af1 still feels superior. Ive run´all my road PBs in them. Unfortunaly i am on my last pair now wich do have 100k on threm allready 😪
See i told you you'd love the Elite's 😉 Would you say the Adidas Pro 3's are just a little softer? How about doung the Severn Bridge Half Marathon next summer (or the 10k) thats not a million miles from you and Andy FOD runner often comes along.
It certainly is, not often you get to run on the carriage way of a closed motorway! And i do my Parkrun there too. Newport (Wales) is a very flat and fast course for the marathon.
Hi, love the videos. What are your thoughts on Vaporfly 2 vs 3. Just picked up another pair of the 2s after your discount video. Not sure 3s are worth the extra £70/80
I'll be wearing the Prime X Strung at Chester marathon next week. Hopefully, it bounces me around to a sub 3 hours. Would you not wear the Prime X for a marathon?
Hey Edd, where would you classify Adidas adizero prime x strung (v1) in your list? I'm thinking about running marathon later on this year and was thinking to get either prime x strung v1 or one of hoka x2/endorphine elite. I was running in endorphine pro 3 in past and really enjoyed the speedroll technology. In many videos in past though, you said prime x strung is one of the best shoes you've ever run so I'm just wondering how it compares to others.
It’s a great shoe though I’ve only included “legal” options here as many people even in local running clubs are after championship points. Some people like to keep it fully legit. Otherwise I think the primex might be a little too unstable for some later in the race
Endorphin pro for me are stable and the most reliable but they aren’t the fastest. Adios Leo my HR is always 5-6bpm lower for the same pace as other shoes so they are by far my fastest shoes and hold all of my PBs but the stability gives me some issues in my ankles and big toe gets rekt in them. Vapours feel as fast if not faster then the adios but I’ve had 5 runs in them and get 3 injuries. So for me they just don’t work. Calf and foot injuries.
Just ran a 10k in the VF3 and these are my remarks: Pros: lightweight. very good grip (dry conditions) Cons: energy return is not as good as in the AF, stability is terrible, upper is not at all stretchy and caused blisters in the toes I clearly prefer the AF1 over the VF3
The smell of the shoes reminds me of the seed/weed killer isle of the local garden centre. Not sure why I like it, but it’s strangely comforting. Maybe it was a good day when I was young or something. 🤣👍🏼
@@EDDBUD Yup, just ran the Vitality 10k in the Sky+ and cut 4 mins off my PB. This thing is really fast, I feel that it's fine for further distances but you need to be in shape and be able to hold good form. The more you put in, the better it gets ... I was smashing Vaporflyers all over the place last Saturday, my new favorite 10k shoe, no contenders!
Hi Edd, one question, I really love my Boston 12, use it for half marathon few time, never had any raceday show before, should I buy Pro 3? is it have the same feeling and material as Boston 12? which better? Pro 3 or Hoka Rocket X? Thanks in advance

No mention of Fuelcell Elite (V2 and V3)?
The elite 2 was ok. I don’t own the v3 so how can I recommend or review it?

I’m debating doing it as my first marathon is it relatively flat
I thought it was. But there’s a few inclines.
I’d have alphafly or vaporfly for my top pick’s The uppers really work for me
Then I’d pick between metaspeed sky plus and adios pro 3. The metaspeed is the faster pick for me but maybe a little firm for long distance and the adios is safer pick but not racey enough for me
I really like the feeling underfoot of saucony pro 3 but the upper does not work for me, even going up a full size there wasn’t enough width in the toe box for me and the rest of shoe is too big
I just recently got a the saucony endorphin elite on sale so haven’t run in it yet but toe box seems better then endorphin pro 3 so hopefully il be able to use it
The elite is nuts. Best bits of the pro but quicker.

Hi Ed, saucony Elite now £249 @ startfitness and with a cheeky extra 10% off £224 makes it a much better price.👌
Now that’s more like it!
I really like to watch your videos😁even if im amateur runner, but when i buy some shoes just give me motivation for workouts👌
Where would you put vaporflys 2 in which place beetwen these shoes? Would you run full marathon in vp2?
Prefer the vf2 to the 3. Up there with the Saucony pro 3
I still choose the AF 1, if tryed the AF2 all 3 versions of the VF and the adios pro 3 but for me the af1 still feels superior. Ive run´all my road PBs in them. Unfortunaly i am on my last pair now wich do have 100k on threm allready 😪
Yes the v1 is the best of the bunch. I doubt the v3 will be any better
See i told you you'd love the Elite's 😉
Would you say the Adidas Pro 3's are just a little softer?
How about doung the Severn Bridge Half Marathon next summer (or the 10k) thats not a million miles from you and Andy FOD runner often comes along.
It looks nice and straight that race. 👍🏼🤣
The Adios pro 3 is a little softer the pwrrun hg but lacks the same rebound.
It certainly is, not often you get to run on the carriage way of a closed motorway! And i do my Parkrun there too.
Newport (Wales) is a very flat and fast course for the marathon.
@@ChrisC-bk6nd A while back they closed off the link road from yeovil to the main a303. Miles and miles of straight road! Amazing.
Sounds awesome 👍
For race day shoe, if the course is hill marathon with high elevation gain 400m, vaporfly and alphafly which is better?
I ran a 270m elevation course in the Puma today. I think the lighter shoe is almost always better
Hi, love the videos. What are your thoughts on Vaporfly 2 vs 3. Just picked up another pair of the 2s after your discount video. Not sure 3s are worth the extra £70/80
I love the 2. The 3 is a roomy affair in the toebox.
Hey Eddbud, When you say light weight runner what what weight are you talking about? Thanks
About me. 75kg ish
Thanks I'm
167.6 centimeters
and 63.5 kilos
Is the foam on the Endorphine Elite and Pro same as the one on the Speed?
Endorphin Elite uses PWR run HG. Pros and speed 3 use PWR run PB foams
Same on pro and speed. The elite has a more rebound like foam.
I'll be wearing the Prime X Strung at Chester marathon next week. Hopefully, it bounces me around to a sub 3 hours. Would you not wear the Prime X for a marathon?
I'll be wearing Prime X original tomorrow for loch ness marathon.
I would consider the v1 strung. Superb shoe. Perhaps the best I’ve ever tested. Most fun at least
@@EDDBUD 3:05 something. It's a PB for the Prime X, even with my left big toe sticking through the upper.
There has to be someone out there, trying to make a marathon sandal.
Makes sense, thank you @@EDDBUD
You running any maras by end of year tho Ed? 😅
🥉 Let me get this half done in October. Then I shall see what’s available.
Which do you recommend for a wide fore foot. Something with a wide toe box? Alot of these sounds like theyre real narrow
Superblast perhaps? It’s that bit wider
@@EDDBUD thank you.
Some shoes just work for some people. That endorphin elite is one of them for me
Just ran a 10k in the VF3 and these are my remarks:
Pros: lightweight. very good grip (dry conditions)
Cons: energy return is not as good as in the AF, stability is terrible, upper is not at all stretchy and caused blisters in the toes
I clearly prefer the AF1 over the VF3
Yeah I can agree with you on all fronts.
how's the adios pro 3 on the arch? I have pretty low arch and wide midsection feet, tried the Boston 12 and it didn't work for me.
It’s not mega present. But similar to the Boston so best avoid it.
6:58 what is this little tagline you always drop Ed?
The smell of the shoes reminds me of the seed/weed killer isle of the local garden centre. Not sure why I like it, but it’s strangely comforting. Maybe it was a good day when I was young or something. 🤣👍🏼
Do you mean the “Danke schön”? It means “Thank you very much” in German 😊
@@x0rbian I think he was referring to the shoe smelling
@@x0rbian Actually i think you are right.
@@EDDBUD was referring to the German! I’m half German but sadly, I don’t know any German 😞
Do u know where I can get the endorphin pro 3 on sale or discount ?
Sportshoes had some. Also start fitness.
I would argue that the Asics Superblast is a super shoe. I think Asics proved you dont need a plate to be a super shoe.
I don’t think it’s a race option personally.
I dunno if a broken in adios pro 3 can be beat
Yes they really benefit from some break in
Right in time for bed 🛌
Definitely agree with you that the metaspeed sky is more of a 5-10k even up to the half kind of shoe. Can’t imagine doing a marathon in it.
The first version of the Sky was better than the Sky+ for me. My Half PB is still in the OG Sky. I have never ran a PB at any distance in the Sky+
10k banger for me. Though as you say can’t imagine doing a full marathon in it!
Evening
🥇
NB sc elite V3 ??
Never tried it so can’t comment too much on those.
'Garden Centre' 😂😂😂
It’s like the weed killer isle.
Is alpha fly truly not the fastest?
Not for me. Certainly not the v2
@@EDDBUD what is your fastest shoe? I have gone the distance with the endorphin pro 3, I’m looking to go for the sub 3 this year to qualify Boston
1.000.000 subs and more thats the goal dankeschön...lol
Almost there. 🤣👍🏼
No prime X sprung (v1)m
Only the 40mm or below stuff here. Many who watch the channel are uk running club members and after champ points.
@@EDDBUD See you at the Manchester Half 🙌
Firenze marathon?
Someone send Edd a Pro EVO 1 please!! @adidasrunning
They never send me anything yet. 🤣👍🏼
First?

Hi Edd, one question, I really love my Boston 12, use it for half marathon few time, never had any raceday show before, should I buy Pro 3? is it have the same feeling and material as Boston 12? which better? Pro 3 or Hoka Rocket X? Thanks in advance
Pro 3 if you like the Boston. It’s closer to your familiar shoe.
