Hey, I see these silver deck John Deere push/walk behind mowers on your channel. I'd like to hear more about the history and background as well as the differences in the models. I came across a John Deere 12pb silver deck made late April of 1989. It's a two stroke and not self propelled. I paid $140 total, $100 for the mower which was in great shape and with a full tank of gas and a sharp blade, and it was washed and well cared for, not used much though, and paid an extra $40 to have it delivered from a town about an hour away. I think I got a great deal, I love it. Although I wish I had self propel, I have to mow on a hillside.
Yes My 14PZ Came out in the 90s But Not my 14Sb I have the 1 piece Ogura clutch Not the two piece Warner Clutch Came out in the 1991 my 14Sb Ogura Clutch Residential Model came out in 1989 There 1st addition JD Also The 14Sb 2nd Model Witch was there Commercial Model of the 14Sb came out Witch came with the steel rims Not the Yellow Plastic rims Both Came out in 1989 . Thanks for swinging pass👍
Congratulations! Very nice machines. I look forward to seeing them in action. Just got to use my JX75 for the first time yesterday. I was very impressed with the performance of that thing.
The John Deere 14SB lawnmower is another quality, classic piece of machinery from the crew at John Deere. This walk behind, 5 speed, self propelled mower has long since finished it’s production run but is still quite a sought after piece by JD enthusiasts. It is powered by an FC150 Kawasaki engine, that pumps out 5hp, which is really quite a lot of power for such small lawn mower. Perhaps John Deere made a mistake when they were creating this model and gave it an engine that was far more powerful than needed. The upside to this however is that you can easily take on long wet grass without having to worry that the engine is going to cut out even when you are mulching the grass. It also has the advantage of being able to also take a bagger. The John Deere 14SB has a 21 inch mower deck, which is pretty standard for a walk behind, self propelled lawnmower. While many people remark on the longevity and strength of this model, the only real downside to it is that it weighs quite a bit. But this is due in large part to it’s engine. The great thing about this model though, like all John Deere models is that even though it may have been over 10 years since one has been produced, there are still replacement parts available for it from John Deere. Some feel that it’s the reliability of the Kawasaki engine that makes this model so great, while others feel that it’s the John Deere parts that make up the rest of the lawn mower that make it so good. The jury is still out. If you own a 14 SB or have ever used one, please leave your thoughts on it in the review section below.
I have a jx75 .Has the kawasaki .was given to me about 10yrs ago. That mower has been the best mower . runs great .cuts great .That old girl never lets me down. also have an xmark comercial 21in ,Also great mower. The JX75 Gives a finer cut in the bag. Which i like. Hard to beat those older John Deere's
I have a john deere BM 18178 14pz I’ve been wondering is it possible to install a transmission and self propel on them? Idd like to restore it for some one.
I have a 14PZ I bought new in 1998. It still runs great. The (still original) front wheels, though, have been a bit wobbly for years, and seem to be getting even more wobbly lately (the bolts are still tight). I haven't tried taking a wheel off yet to inspect it, but I don't think it's designed to have a bushing. The JD online parts catalog shows a substitute wheel with a bushing is available (mine have a black dust cap covering the bolt head). As part of your restorations, did you do any wheel replacement? If so, do you have any advice? Thanks!
Great ? and Yes i had the same wobble Problem's on Both The PZ/SB Took the wheel off and looked real good and i saw it did not kneed a new bearing but the area were the bearings sits on wheel looked bent and worn out and out of shape so i just ordered a new wheel and wam that fixed the problem strait wheel again easy to fix. It is your wheel get a new 1 grease it up real good (The bearing area ) before putting it back on .and you should be good as new . Let me know your progress ? Thanks for swinging by my channel .
Is most of the oil coming out of the muffler ? If not your head gasket is bad or the oil cap might be loose .let me know thanks for your ? Or it might be your oil drain is loose 🤔
Very nice machines. I have a JX75 and a 14sb with the Kawasaki motor. Both were thrown to the curb! Only needed basic maintenance.

The JD which a transmission has a commercial Kawasaki motor in it, it can handle slopes.

I just aquired a 14PZ. I would like to know how to tell the year of production. It is in great shape. Any guidance is appreciated.
What color are the rims?
Nice mowers but check your manufacture dates… these came out in late 80’s.(‘87-88ish). Not 1980.
I just had one sb given to me, what did you use to clean the decks.

I have a 1989 JD 14SB, 4.5 Kawasaki Engine. The mower runs, though I get an oil leak that accumulates on the deck, any ideas how to fix the oil leak?
