Here’s something you won’t hear many people acknowledge… American companies are no longer run by Americans, so they do not hold American values. I have worked decades for a Global company that is in the top 200 on the Fortune 500 list and the demographics and promotional practices of upper management paints a clear picture on the decisions being made and of our future.
One example- upper managers promoted from a certain region suddenly lower our inter company transfer premium (mark up) to their region “so we can stay competitive in that region” That makes the US business less profitable which in turn supports the business decision to move the manufacturing to that region. Then we end up buying the product back from that region at the same price as we were making it here before but with the lost jobs and American values.
Can’t have loyalty to companies that don’t have loyalty to you.

I won’t speak to the political/non-professional PR aspect… but I believe the big 2 tractor companies are in a “race to the bottom”. The smaller brands are becoming disruptive enough within the marketplace, that Deere and Kubota have no choice but to react… I believe we will see the tractor market become more competitive in the coming years. If I’m in the market for a tractor, I would be paying attention to which brands are growing and which brands are shrinking.
I will say… it is upsetting to see an American brand make moves that don’t align with their legacy identity.

Since then we now have a Kubota, Kioti, TYM, Mahindra and Bobcat dealers so many more choices. Farmers and rural America don't spend our time concerned over social issues. We have neighbors, family, faith, and country. Social media is not social and has been deteriorating the fabric our nation. When an iconic company like John Deere doesn’t have the courage to push back against shareholders like Vanguard and Blackrock and funds social activism, they have compromised their values over money. If your values don’t align with mine, you’re not getting through the front gate. Doesn’t sit well with me, but my family’s hard earned income is going elsewhere. Good points Brock. I grew up driving my Dad’s JD B. I’ve owned a 955, 2720, and now a 4066R. Just purchased an LS MT573 and like you, probably won’t be able to sell my 4066R for anywhere close to what I believe it’s worth. For all the reasons you mentioned, I have a hard time believing that I’ll ever purchase another JD product. Given the choice, I simply won’t support their agendas and policies. While I’d like to see everything built in the USA, we have to accept that we are living in a global economy. I’m extremely happy with my LS…full featured and very capable for 10’s of thousands less than a comparable JD or Kubota. I’ve compared them all. I can’t be convinced that JD or Kubota are that much better in features, capacities, or quality to justify a few thousand dollars difference, let alone 10’s of thousands.

@@carrollsanders9376 per Reuters Nov. 2023. No supreme court Deere ruling found online.
Nov 27 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Monday said Deere & Co (DE.N), opens new tab must face claims from crop farms and farmers that the agricultural machinery maker has unlawfully conspired to restrict services for maintenance and repair.
U.S. District Judge Iain Johnston in Rockford, Illinois, rejected, opens new tab Deere's effort to dismiss consolidated lawsuits accusing the Moline, Illinois-based company of violating U.S. antitrust law.
The judge said the plaintiffs had met legal thresholds to pursue their claims.
"According to the complaint's allegations, Deere has the ultimate control of the repair services market," Johnston wrote in his 89-page order. "These allegations are not mere legal conclusions. The complaint is chock-full of factual allegations to support this conclusion."
Deere has denied the allegations and will have a chance at a later stage in the case to dispute the merits of the farmers' claims.
A Deere spokesperson and attorneys for the company at Jones Day on Monday did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A lead plaintiffs' attorney in the case, Daniel Hedlund of law firm Gustafson Gluek in Minneapolis, said they "look forward to continuing to pursue the claims of their farmer clients in this right to repair antitrust case."
The case is part of a growing push from consumers and others challenging restrictions on maintenance and repair. A U.S. judge in California this month dismissed a right-to-repair case against Tesla but said drivers could refile an amended complaint.
The Biden administration broadly has backed a federal legislative effort to end restrictive repair practices, which critics argue raises costs for consumers.
In the Deere litigation, six prospective class actions were consolidated last year before Johnston. The cases allege Deere has conspired with dealerships to control where and how machines are maintained and repaired.
The complaint, opens new tab said farmers are "prevented from using trusted, less expensive, and more conveniently located skilled mechanics who are not affiliated with Deere."
Lawyers for Deere have argued that only a "small subset" of repairs must be done at Deere-authorized dealerships. The company told the court that it has "never hidden" that some repairs require the company's dealers.
In a filing, opens new tab, the lawyers said federal antitrust law does not require "Deere to give all of its proprietary repair tools and software to anyone who happens to want them."
The case is In re: Deere & Co Repair Service Antitrust Litigation, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, 3:22-cv-50188.

My wife said "When are you putting all your John Deere stuff out by the road for sale?" when this was first brought to light... Was fooled into thinking the resale value was always gonna be there or at least have something to pass on that my grandkids would be proud to own.

I looked for months for a new tractor. I looked at Deere, Kubota, Kioti, LS. I liked them all. Looking at Deere’s website I had to double check to see if I was in the right place. You can tell the wokeness was running deep. Did not look like a farming/landowner site at all. I bought a Kubota. I like Japanese products and they all stand the test of time. I own an older Deere too. Just a shame. A company can’t just do business and leave the rest of the crap alone.

Unless it's a 750 with a pony motor at the newest, I don't want that John Deere tractor. The 750 has options that you find on tractors today, some of which are now standard. Dual remotes, live PTO, 3-point hitch, and possibly a few others. The 750 also has a narrow front option where the two front tires are directly under the centerline, which allows for tighter turns than the wide front version can pull off. For some stupid reason, you won't see the narrow front configuration on new tractors. The 750 also has a drum on the transmission that spins whenever the clutch is engaged, which allows you to run belt drive equipment, and I love having the option in case I need it. You need an adaptor for your PTO to run equipment like that with a new tractor, and that's just another attachment to keep track of when you need to do an itemized deduction on your taxes, which can be enough of a clusterfuck with very few pieces of equipment. In summary, I'll gladly take a lever clutch over fancy doodads and luxury comfort items. John Deere has gone too far trying to compete with other companies.

I don't think going back to simple farm equipment is an option, at least for big agricultural operations. Automation is becoming more and more important, both for cost savings, but more importantly, to increase yields. Equipment that can accurately and quickly prep land, place seed, harvest, calculate yields, minimize soil amendments, etc are the key to this. Fully automatic farming is where it's headed, because (I believe) the younger generation as a whole isn't interested, and because the family farm is disappearing, they're not being exposed to it from a young age and brought up with it as a way of life. Starting a new farm is next to impossible, the costs are astronomical, and the risk is even higher. Those with small farms, hobby farms, and home users want simpler equipment, and we all want more reliable equipment, but big ag wants full automation.

What I said is that the problem is that John Deere is charging so much for their products that they can afford to make the products here.
The entire conversation was about the importance of keeping these jobs in this country. It was all negative towards John Deere as a company
I did say that the American worker wants to be paid more and get benefits. I said that John Deere is charging enough that they can absorb the additional cost of manufacturing in this country.
If you want to move your Manufacturing to Mexico to save cost, then you have to reduce the price of your products to reflect that.

Any price comparison to John Deere for a Utility Tractor should be tmade to the JD 5E Series. The JD 5E Series offers high performance at lower costs. The 5E Series is assembled in India. In my recent search for a Utility Tractor, the onlyJD tractors that were somewhat competetive on price and performance was the JD 5E Series. All other JD Tractors were not competetive on price and/or performance. I did not chosse a JD 5E tractor, but I gave it a lot of thought. All other JD product lines did not merit any consideration..
