I've been reading "Mystic Burning: Salutary Lessons in the USA," excerpts from John's letters and journals from his time in the United States in the early nineties, when he was about my age now. I understand now his wariness about being considered some sort of teacher or guru. I give him enormous credit for publishing these writings because they show him at his most troubled and vulnerable. John was temporarily drawn toward a new age spiritual leader at the time, so he understands firsthand both the appeal and the danger of this. After reading this book, I somewhat hesitate to tell you, John, that I feel closer in spirit to you than ever. It gives me hope for finding some peace as I grow older and hopefully wiser, that my life's journey can improve over time. I highly recommend the book to anyone who mistakenly thinks that John is anything other than a mortal, flawed human being like the rest of us, although a man of great wisdom.
@@chrisaustin4115 He is only referred to as "Andrew" in the book. Based on location, time, and description of the man, I speculate that it is Andrew Cohen, the controversial founder of EnlightenNext, described as a cult by critics.
I also loved this book, and wondered who is the spiritual leader. If it is the Andrew you’re talking about , I read that there have been allegations of psychological abuse . This is why John’s humility is remarkable (note how he insists he’s neither a teacher or wise )… in my experience, many spiritual‘leaders’ start well and then degenerate into power crazed and arrogant
I have been following John since his earliest on youtube. Not due to coincidence I stumbled upon him. He has taught me to center myself in many ways by sharing his knowledge and wisdom.
Glad to hear you say that. His views are actually more platonic / Hindu which are actually not biblical. He's got good things to say but I don't agree with everything he says.
@@patrickmcdonald8513 yeah I kind of stumbled across him by accident and was intrigued. He seems like a very nice man, but I kind of feel I've come to the end now because it's like the only thing that seems to actually matter to him is stillness, and I think there is a bit more to our existence on this earth than that, just my own personal opinion. Not trying to devalue what he says or the people who he has helped, but there isn't anything new here for me
@@Scott1433 Respect where he is in life, his mid-eighties. If you read his books and listen to his story you'll realize that he hasn't always felt this way. His life has been filled with yearning, torment and suffering.
@@Scott1433 I don't doubt that you respect him. My point is to recognize that he is experiencing life now from the vantage point of being a very old man. I suspect that you are quite a bit younger than John. If you talked to the John of your age, you would find that many other things mattered very much to him.
John doesn't need to be anything special going forward in his videos. His true audience just wants him to be relaxed and do these videos in the environment that he feels 100% confident and comfortable in. As much as this guy is trying, just keeping it to the basics is all that is needed with these videos.
Yes, and so modestly described. I like how he emphasises the naturalness and child-likeness of meditation. Tried to teach my grandkids to meditate yesterday evening (7 year olds) - they collapsed in giggling heaps. It was delightful.
In this world most people are lost in the ego or mind and in a world full of ego there is separation and turmoil but by getting in touch with our true self or consciousness, the one source that is pure love, there are no problems just peace and love. We are slowly heading towards higher consciousness in our evolution but we still got a ways to go. When Mo was asking what is the infinite? I think listening to people who have had a near death experience gives you a good glimpse into what we all can expect when we physically die and leave our body. The afterlife is a place of pure love, bliss and all knowledge (which we all know but can't remember in our early body) is given to us. I truly feel we have nothing to fear at all when we die, as John said we are all just little children playing our part and learning from all our failures which are necessary :))
This is fantastic. I've found many of these things out in my own spiritual quest and working on my emotional/mental health. I would love to sit and just chat with John. He has such a calming, warm presence. And that twinkle in the eye when he smiles.
I feel like my iner self prayers ''voice'' as young boy turned on me and it took John to make me realize that prayers was not what i needed first but meditation THEN prayer.

19:45 The answer to this question doesn't quite cut it: since we were foolish and tempted, considering the ensuing suffering, in truth it can't exactly have been paradise. At least not a _desirable_ paradise, rather it would already have been, in René Guénon's allusion, "paradesha".
That is a phrase given to him when he was discouraged that his farming technique wasn't accomplishing what he hoped for in restoring trees and soil quality in the Andes. To be whole is a process practiced in meditation, getting out of fragmentation and separation and joining completeness. When the person is whole they can effect wholeness. To make whole, be whole. There are several other videos where he discusses the realization and how it affected the course of his life choices.
