Simo Häyhä, AKA White Death, he was hunter and took part in competition shootings before war. Confirmed kills total: 502 (Possible there were more kills as it was defensive war and Soviets were pushing Finns back). He worked alone, often just laying nearly still for as long sun was up. He moved to his sniper position before sunrise and left position after sun had set and it was dark.
Simo aimed to torso of his targets, as it is larger target area than head is. He also had grim tactic of intentionally shooting guy to leg or other way to badly wound them, so their friend would come from hiding spot to help their wounded friend only for Simo to shoot one coming to help. Simo also wrote into his "Sin Diary" on how he accidently failed to kill his targets with one hit, they would sometimes fall out of sight to suffer slow death, he didn't like leaving someone to suffer for long.
Near end of (Finnish) Winter War he was shot while he and rest of his group were retreating with Explosive round to his left jaw. He woke week after war had ended. He refused to join Continuation War (where Finland allied with Germany against Russian). Later in his years he teach'd many modern Armies on how to survive, including U.S.A.
He died 2002 at age of 96.

Acute hearing doesn't help you if you have supersonic rounds. The bullet gets to you before the sound does. You only hear those as or after they pass.
Subsonic rounds only suppress the path of the bullet.
You can also mitigate scope glint with a shroud or a honeycomb filter

Supersonic round? How much grain is that?

    • @johannesbowers7467

@@NinjaKumaReacts It all depends on how much of a round you are pushing. There are many in quite a few calibers.
The whole idea of suppressing any firearm involves attempting to silence 4 factors.
      1. The action. This can be anything from as little as the hammer and firing pin dropping In a single shot bolt action rifle, To the entire process of feeding locking firing unlocking extracting and ejecting a semi Automatic magazine fed weapon., or even Fully automatic or belt fed.
      2. The explosive report of the round firing.
      3. The displacement of the air in the barrel in front of the round as it is fired ( The step that suppressors actually intervene with)
      4. The displacement of air around the round in flight.
Subsonic munitions (under 1,056 fps) do not have as much of that noise in flight. A supersonic (over +1,056 fps) munition will, But that does NOT matter if you're only firing one shot and bugging out. Somebody's head will just explode and then everybody hears a bang.
It sounds reversed but it is true. You get the most (But not complete) suppression with a subsonic round, But that round can still be heard approaching.
Even the best suppressor system can do nothing for a supersonic round because of the characteristics in flight. In fact, the problem applies to any high velocity round. In general, they don't even have to be that fast. They still make them crack as they pass through the air.. Only low velocity rounds can be effectively Suppressed, and then it's a factor of how sensitive the sensor is.

The White Death, Simo Häyhä was a Finnish sniper during the winter war. He didn't use scopes bechause of the glint and bechause he aimed better without them bechause he was a hunter and was more used to iron sights. It's like the Turkish sharp shooter in the olympics they tried to give him the updated equipment but he wasn't used to it and preformed worse with it.
Fun fact people tried to refuse in the sovjet army in areas where they tought Simo was operating bechause it was practically a death sentence. Here's dozens of stories about him

Another trailer for LOTM( Lord of the mysteries) has just dropped.
Would love to see you react to it!
The story is a combination of lovecraftian horror, SCP, with a steampunk element. Plus it’s set in a victorian era.
It’s the best Webnovel out there
